My girlfriend and I stayed at the Seehof for 4 nights. The hotel is in a wonderful location, it hardly takes a minute to walk from the hotel entrance to the bathing beach on the picturesque Walensee. I booked the hotel mainly because of the top location and the consistently positive reviews, so I would like to give the best possible overall picture with my own review, which I was missing in previous reviews. Pros: + Fantastic location, most of the rooms seem to have a lake view + Breakfast is available from 6:30am to 10:00am + The entire hotel area is very clean, rooms are cleaned and towels changed daily + The staff at the hotel itself was consistent friendly. This applies to reception, cleaning staff as well as the breakfast buffet + room and bathroom are generously sized + there was a kettle, a TV, two tea cups and a small selection of coffee and teas in the room. In addition, a small water bottle that was renewed every day. Neutral: ~ A wide variety of services are offered, but you are only informed via a flyer in the hotel room. This is particularly pointless for offers such as ”pick up from the train station”. ~ There is a bus stop right in front of the hotel, but the bus only runs every hour and depending on the time only every 2 hours. Walenstadt train station can easily be reached on foot in 20 minutes, but trains run very irregularly there too. Day trips must therefore be well planned if you don't want to put up with long waiting times or footpaths ~ There is a landing stage for boat trips across Lake Walen. The departure times are irregular, especially on weekdays ~ There are no rental options for pedalos or similar at the Walenstadt location Negative: - There is no air conditioning in the room, nor fly screens in front of the windows. On sultry summer nights, you have the choice of sleeping in a stuffy room or inviting the large number of insects into the room due to the proximity to agriculture. - The toilet in our room not only didn't lock completely so every sound could be heard by everyone in the room, but it also had a porthole window to the beds. That is, moving around the main area of the room, one's eyes were inevitably drawn to the bathroom, where one has a wonderful view of the toilet. - The food selection in the hotel restaurant is limited and the quality of the food we tried was average at best. Ironically, the prices were overpriced even by Swiss standards. - Particularly ugly: the hotel restaurant. On our only visit there, every member of staff we interacted with was extremely rude and abrupt. Plates were sometimes placed on the table without eye contact while you were still talking to guests from the neighboring table. We never heard a ”bon appetit”.
Very Good
