Stayed there night of May 31st, 2024. Very good price/value, wonderful views!, room and bed were very comfortable, Front desk lady friendly and helpful. Maintenance of hotel not good. Had to call to replace 2 lightbulbs in room -- she came with light bulbs and I replaced. Biggest problem was locks and security for room. Front door deadbolt could not be locked from outside leaving just the flimsy front doorknob lock when we left for outings, bathroom window lock didnt work with bathroom right on hallway corridor (people walking by), and sliding door to balcony looking over ocean had broken lock (not working). Hotel great if you dont care about security!

My family thought I was crazy selecting this out of the way location on our way up the North Coast of California to see the redwoods. We are so glad we stayed here. Accommodations were comfortable. Nothing fancy, but the Little Black Sands Beach was sooo amazing. We arrived there right around sunset. Only people on the beach. It was foggy and the waves so angry I felt a special kind of connection to the sea and the world outside of human interactions. Very cool

I paid $930 total for Thursday and Friday. (The rate goes up $80 for the weekend) Was I wrong to expect a premium experience? Well, the ocean view from the private sitting area is fabulous, except for the triple railing right at eye level. The Jacuzzi is a nice touch, but only adequate for two Asian children. Didn't use the sauna. The food area consists of a microwave, a sink, a micro fridge, and a two cup coffee maker, but only one packet of coffee. That's a quarter packet per person per day. There were two wine glasses but no corkscrew, not even a bottle opener or a roll of paper towels. A mini-bar? Dream on. There was a tiny basket of the very cheapest kiddie snacks -with a price list. I usually tip housekeeping but there was none. So, pack your camping kit and enjoy Inn of the Lost Wallet.

Shelter Cove is definitely very remote but worth the drive. The view at this inn has to be one of the best on the CA coast. Every one in town was so welcoming and kind. Yes, there are limited options for food but that’s not why you’re going to come here. I booked the room that had an infrared sauna in it, very worth it. There is something magical about this town and I’d definitely recommend staying here if you’re willing to make the trip.

Simy and his staff were just perfect from the time we checked in until we checked out 6 days later. No words are available to describe the beauty of Shelter Cove, CA. We had two days of sunshine while the last 4 days were cloudy, but that did not matter. Shelter Cove and The Inn at Lost Coast was heaven on earth. With our window open every night, we were able to hear the majestic Pacific Ocean from our room. We celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary during this stay and was treated to a complimentary bottle of bubbly from the staff. Highly recommend The Inn at Lost Coast and the village of Shelter Cove. We were not able to spend much time there but would love to come back. The room was large and clean. The view from the balcony was amazing.

This was our first visit to Shelter Cove. We had no idea we had to go up and then down incredibly narrow, steep roads to get to the hotel, so the drive in was an adventure. I was a little shocked at first just how tiny the town was. Dining options are very limited, so be prepared. We ate twice at Gyppo Ale Mill & loved it. Tried to get pizza one night, but after waiting 15 minutes for the one person taking orders to help the customer in front of us, we left. Pizza another night was okay. The coffee shop Fish Tank is on site and makes AMAZING coffee drinks and sandwiches. Probably the highlight of the hotel besides the view. As others have said, the views are incredible. We could hear the waves from our bed. I didn’t realize smoking was allowed on balconies till I read reviews when we got home. Had I known, we wouldn’t have stayed here. We were fortunate no one was smoking, so we enjoyed some outside time. The slider door was very hard to open and no screen. Would have been nice to leave open at night. Housekeeping never showed up our second day, even though we had the sign out at 9am requesting service. The room was okay, but not a single drawer to unpack your clothes. The carpet was damp and dingy sadly. My husband had several bites on his body after our 2nd night. We couldn’t see any bedbugs, but something got to him in our room. It was a very unique and interesting place to visit, but for us I don’t think we will be back.

I loved our spa room. The sauna, the fireplace, and the jetted tub by the window to overlook the sunset were perfect for our weekend gateway!

It is definitely not a luxury boutique hotel. It is very basic, run down and ill equipped. The bath is tiny, carpet worn and stained. What it does have going for it is a magnificent location with jaw dropping views and is dog friendly. We had a 2nd floor corner unit with a view of the field next door and were rewarded with 3 deer grazing. Would I stay again? Probably.
