Wonderful hotel! The room was excellent from the comfortable bed to the luxury touches such as the record player, the spa-like lotions and the quality coffee. The food and drinks at the Pearly Cow and bar were flawless with a cosy and warm atmosphere. Our couple’s spa experience was truly relaxing with attentive staff. The staff in general were very friendly and helpful! The location is only a short walk to the city ramparts and heart of the town - even the walk there takes you past some historic buildings! 10/10, highly recommend.

Stayed here with my girlfriend and I asked the hotel if they could sort anything out for me to make it a little bit ro***tic as it was her birthday. This was no issue for them at all. My girlfriend was surprised and the smile on her face was the best thing ever. I ended up paying for an extra night which was promptly sorted for me. Cannot thank the hotel enough. Next time I visit York I will stay here again

I visit York regularly and mostly stay in hotels. I decided to do something different this time and stay here. Checkin is through the pub downstairs. The two younger members of staff had no idea what to do when I arrived but the third member of staff took the lead to check me in and bring me to my room. Initial impression of the room was that it was nicely presented, clean and modern. However, I was simply shocked to find that my bathroom had no shower in it. I went back to reception and asked to be assigned a room with a shower but was told no other room was available. So, for the first time in many years, I stayed in a location that didn’t even have the most basic of facilities. If I knew this before I booked here, I certainly wouldn’t have made the booking. In the morning, I asked to have breakfast. It was cooked to order and was delicious. The lady who served me was very efficient and friendly. There’s no air conditioning in the room so I had to have a fan running all night to try to stay cool. So, would I stay here again? Probably not, I’m afraid. The lack of basic facilities is a complete show stopper for me.

Fab location but needs a little TLC. We were allocated Room 2 which over looked the secret garden The curtains wouldn’t shut properly as half the hooks were hanging off the rail. The carpet could do with replacing and there are items in the room that make it feel old and dusty ie suitcases/boxes on roof shelves. The bed was clean but the mattress had a slope on it which made sleeping a little awkward, the pillows were lovely and comfortable. The ensuite shower is horrendous all black slate tiles and black grout which didn’t make it inviting at all. it was missing an extractor fan as the ensuite was so damp and steamy after using the shower it was a haven for mould and with the black tiles and grout made it difficult to determine if mould was present. The breakfast was lovely but wasn’t comfortable in the dining area I’m not a fan of the plastic artificial follage decor as it’s difficult to maintain cleanliness again a haven for dust. Very disappointing

My wife and I stayed for 2 nights and were drawn in by reputation and quality of the other principal hotels across the country. I was shocked to read so many bad reviews and almost booked somewhere else as a result. It seems most of the intolerant previous residents had issues with noise, smells. food, rooms, service. We didn’t experience any of that and can only conclude that most of the reviews are either planted as false information by competitors or result of warm summer, outdoor bar or questionable views / aspect of room. We stayed in a king on 3rd floor, room 300. If you’re worried about anything just book that one! Tasteful clean decor and great views to the minster. Notable comments for James who went above and beyond to sort out a small issue with audio description hardcoded into the TV, sorted smoothly and efficiently. Great location, atmosphere and setting. We will be back with our dog next time. Don’t believe everything you read from dissolutioned guests who want a megaphone to comment on perceived issues.

I'm giving a '5' rating because I think the owner and staff do as well as they can with this place, but there are some issues that I don't see any of the other reviews mention (or at least as far as I read), so I want to highlight those as well. The positives: Location is great for walking into the main area of York even if it is just a bit on the outskirts. Breakfast was fine and plentiful, though I have no idea what a good 'full English breakfast' is from a bad one. The sausage definitely didn't taste like American sausage, but I assume it isn't supposed to. But there are other breakfast options as well. The dining area is very nice. The owner (or whom I assume is the owner) is just as pleasant and helpful as can be. She helped us navigate our way around town and highlighted the places to visit. The not-as-positives: We had trouble finding the 'shortcut' to walk it from the train station. You'll probably want to use your phone for directions, but if they provided a map rather than text directions, it would be helpful Being a house, there are no elevators. We were pleasantly offered help with our luggage, but be warned that it does have to be carried up steps if you are in a room on other than the ground floor. As for our room itself, it was small, and wasn't easy to navigate around in with two suitcases. The bathroom shower would not fit a large person. Fortunately, we are both on the slimmer side, but it was even tight for us. The noise from traffic was very apparent, as was noise from other guests. We literally heard another guest snoring in an adjoining room. So essentially, the place isn't 'perfect', but I think it's a good value and deserves to be considered. We're likely to never find ourselves in York again since we don't travel that often (but it's well worth a visit), and frankly, if we did, we'd probably research other accommodations as well, but I wouldn't discourage anyone from using Apple House.

When we arrived there was no staff anywhere to be seen until someone from restaurant came and got someone, however when she did arrive she was very nice and helpful. I asked to be in a refurbished room and wasn’t, shower was broke and hanging off the hinges and squirts all over. The car parking is not good as there is only 6 spaces and it’s £10 per night. Food was nice however wasn’t fully well done like I asked but was still nice. Lovely man in restaurant and guy behind reception on nights took pictures for us and brought my bfs surprise bday cake out. Lovely night staff got us water after we arrived back after night out. Would like to thank the housekeeping staff for making the room lovely with all of the decorations I brought to decorate it with for my bfs bday.

This is a lovely place to stay and highly recommended it. The apartment was large and spacious with good cooking facilities and a lovely dining area. The bathroom is large and modern, and the water pressure for the shower is fantastic. Plenty of towels are available. The bedrooms are large with a good amount of wardrobe and drawer space. There are plenty of mirrors in the apartment which, when there are a few of you getting ready, is definitely a plus! The pub itself is lovely and traditional. There are some lovely original features which Dan told us about which were really interesting. He has very extensive knowledge of the building and its history and is really worth having a listen to him. The location is excellent. It is a 5-10 minute walk from the city centre and just a 2 minute walk from the river. There is parking available on site for no extra cost which is extremely handy for a City like York. Breakfast is available for an extra cost and it is excellent. Evening meals are also available (most evenings) and I highly recommend that you eat here at least one night because the food is excellent. It is well cooked, well presented and the choice is fantastic. There is plenty of food served for both breakfast and evening meals and are all available at a reasonable price. My compliments to the chefs. Finally, all other staff at the pub were very attentive and very friendly. All in all, great location, great value, great amenities, great food, great host and great staff. Absolutely recommend for your stay in York

ZZZ9900The Grand Hotel boasts an excellent location, making it a convenient choice for exploring the city. The facilities are top-notch, offering a blend of luxury and comfort that one would expect from a prestigious establishment. However, the service fell short of expectations, especially considering its five-star rating. While it may be due to the busy tourist season, the level of service provided was inconsistent. In particular, the doormen and porters left a lot to be desired, with some interactions being notably poor. This detracted significantly from the overall experience, as such issues are not expected at a hotel of this caliber. Overall, while the hotel's amenities and location are commendable, the service quality needs improvement to truly match the standards of a five-star hotel.

GGuest UserVery quirky hotel. Booked a normal cosy room but was upgraded because we were gold members, to 2 room family room. I am 6 foot 1 and it was difficult because I was constantly wary of my overhead space. It was a cool concept though and the floor space was good. It was the quirkiest Hilton I've stayed in. The bar area was pleasant but it was crowded due to some unforeseen circumstances for the hotel- many coaches arrived with many American tourists. We felt a bit 'ignored' because of the number of people. This also led us to not have a seat at the restaurant for dinner. Had a few draught beers out of stock at the bar but it was ok. Breaktfast was very good, usual Hilton standard. No complaints there. The parking was very very tight, I appreciate that it is pretty much in the city centre. I can say this hilton is better than the Hilton York one next to Cliffords tower by miles.

GGuest UserWas worried reading reviews but we had the best get away here for our wedding anniversary. Our room was overlooking the small courtyard and was very clean. Could not fault our room. We arrived early so had a drink at the bar, check in was quick and easy and the lady on reception was very pleasant and polite. Nice touch of chocolates in our room for our anniversary. Only a 10 minute walk into the main centre which has plenty to do and see. Before we left Sunday we wanted to explore and was advised we could stay in the car park as long as needed. Was very quiet in our room and had a decent night sleep. We will definitely return, we had the most perfect weekend.

GGuest UserWe booked this hotel for a 3 day get away to York. The hotel is well situated off Tadcaster Road, near a woodland path which leads to York racecourse, so is very popular for those who go to the horse racing. Free parking is given on the hotel’s ground, but be warned make sure you go to reception and put in your car registration details in their computerised system otherwise you will be issued with a parking fine from the company who operates CCTV monitoring for the hotel. We booked the hotel through the IHG website, as an IHG Gold member we were given an option of an early checkin for a fee of £20.00 and an upgrade of £45.00. We took advantage of both offers, subject to availability on arrival. Unfortunately this wasn’t possible on arrival, and we weren’t able to check in until nearly 3pm. We were given the upgrade of a room on the top floor. The room had a small fridge with complimentary water and a chocolate bar, slippers, and dressing gowns. The toiletries, conditioner, shampoo, body lotion, are all in fixed to the wall containers. The bath room had a large walk in shower which was quite powerful, but space to hang towels, put personal toiletries was very minimal, and I was thankful that I took a plastic shoe type hold-all and a suction hook which I attached to the shower door to put our toiletries in, otherwise they would have cluttered the sink area. The bathroom was very small, and the door needs to be closed to get any room to do what is necessary in the bathroom. We booked a deal of dinner bed and breakfast. This was a disaster. We went for dinner and just about everything on the menu wasn’t available. Eventually we ordered a burger and chips. After about 30 minutes the food arrived. It was the worse burger and chips I have ever tasted. The burger was burnt on the outside, raw in the middle, the bun was burnt, the chips were very brown, which tasted of fat. We picked at the food as we were so hungry but it wasn’t nice, and hardly edible, in fact what I ate made me feel quite sick afterwards. We complained to reception, who apologised, and said that chefs in York were really hard to employ, and offered to refund the dinner to our account. We said that if this was the case, we would rather not eat dinner in the hotel, and could they please refund the dinner portion from our account for the rest of the stay. We had breakfast for the next 3 mornings, but it wasn’t marvellous, often dishes weren’t refilled when emptied. Some staff didn’t seem to know what they were doing, and others didn’t seem to be that bothered, or concerned, about the guests in the hotel, possibly some more customer service training could be beneficial all round. For the remainder of the stay we ate our evening meal in the pub across the road, which was really good. We felt that the standard of the hotel has deteriorated since we were there a couple of years ago. Would we go back? Possibly not, unless standards improved, and the hotel gets a m

It takes more than 10 minutes to walk to the train station and more than 400 meters to the Shambles Street. The room is not big and the sound insulation is average. GGuest UserI will start with the parking, I paid for secure parking however due to the hotel having noise issue the security gate to the carpark (The noise caused complaints) and second issue of refurbishment being ongoing, the gate was up to allow the building teams to park in the entrance way. This made it difficult to get out of the carpark due to there vans. When I questioned staff they were very dismissive of the issue and said they had CCTV on so it would be fine. The hotel itself is being partial refurbished and that is to revamp the very dated rooms, we were aware of this beforehand, however we were not prepared for 7am drilling and banging from the building works. In addition to this the corridors were often filled with building equipment and furniture which was ongoing throughout the stay. The room, while well proportioned, was very dated. This could have been forgiven if it wasn't for the fact the room was not clean. There were a number of stains on the carpet, the bathroom sink was stinking when used. The bath mat was moldy and the shower itself was a trickle of water, making it difficult to wash quickly. The curtains were very grubby and the room smelled very stale, the bed was adequate but we couldn't be 100% that the sheets had been properly cleaned as there was an odd smell to the bedding. The TV was of decent size but kept cutting in and out of signal when in use, which was annoying when we decided to have an early evening chilling in the room we had paid for, the WiFi was useless, if planning to work while staying here you will need to hotspot your phone. The breakfast food was OK, however the description of a wide choice of cooked food and continental breakfast dishes was over exaggerated, there was no fruit on two days and bananas on the last morning, one choice of yogurt and 3 small cereal options. The cooked food was standard: Bacon, eggs, sausages, hash browns, tomatoes, mushrooms and bean's. Toast was something that had to be requested and was more like warm bread. On the first morning my partner was served a cup with the remainder of someone's lipstick stains on the rim. On closer inspection of the glasses there were a number which were not clean. On the second night we went to the bar area to grab a couple of drinks. The bar was full of empty unwashed glasses and when we got our drinks our glasses where sticky. There was a smell of stale ale which was not appealing in the slightest. On checking out raised a couple of things with the receptionist and was meet with at best distinct lack of interest and worst just plan rudeness. Sadly this hotel did not meet the standards it professed to uphold. I would say the location and river view was pretty and the fact the parking was at the hotel itself made it one of the reasons I booked it. However after this visit I will not be visiting again as there are better hotels in York and carparks that are not much more expensive than the supposed secure parking.

The room is small, especially the bathroom, very old feeling, outdated facilities, poor drainage. There is a distance to the Old Town of York. We are self-supporting. We found a parking lot near the city wall. It costs 6.4 pounds for 2 hours. It seems to be. I went to the Betty Tea Room and waited for a while. Tea is good, dessert is average.

Ddashv1llWe had a lovely stay at Diamonds Inn. We booked the Standard Suite, Ensuite 3-bed room which is located at the top floor of the building. A very quaint compact en-suite family room great for a group of friends or family. All basic amenities are there including towels, shampoo and shower gels. There’s also an electric water kettle, coffee/tea, hair dryer and a small fridge! Beds are soft and comfy. Walls are thin and may hear voices of other guests in the halls during the day but was not a major issue during our stay, mostly quiet after 10pm. Location is very convenient as its only a stones throw away from one of the famous wall entrances, a pub and restaurant across and York Minster. Host was lovely and friendly as well, called to ask if we can get an early check-in and was happy to accommodate us.
