Dolce Vita Residence

Zakinthos Island|1.17km from Caretta Kidom παιδότοπος
These apartments are less than a 10 minute taxi ride from the airport (13 euros). The small complex of 8 studio apartments and 4 family apartments, are set in a quiet and gated grounds, the pool area and garden are beautifully kept, they are maintained every day. The apartments themselves are basic, but adequate. We didn’t cook in the apartment as we ate out most evenings, but did make simple breakfast and lunches. The room was very clean with daily cleaning and changing of towels and sheets every fourth day. The pool area was never crowded, plenty of sun beds and not on top of each other. There is a small cabin/reception area were you could buy drinks, snacks, and meals. (Small menu). Kalamaki strip was about 15/20 min walk along the main road, being in Greece there are no pavements, so had to be aware of the vehicles driving past, at night the road it not lit, so a torch would be handy, especially to access the apartments from the road, you have to follow a dirt track across a small field. Kalamaki has plenty of restaurants, we visited about 10 different ones over our 2 Week holiday, we felt they were very much of a similar standard, with the cost of our meals being between 29 euro which was the cheapest to 40 being the dearest (we had 2 starters to 2 main meals and drinks). There is a supermarket very near the apartment, across the field on the main road and also a bakery about 200 yards further along, with seating outside, we enjoyed coffee and croissants for breakfast.

Daniel Hotel

Zakinthos Island|1.54km from Caretta Kidom παιδότοπος

Despite the neighborhood with the airport, Daniel hotel has a strategic position for those who want to turn the island or simply enjoy a rest holiday, as it is located on a very quiet and dimmed in nature, from the chaos of the media but at the same time a few minutes from the main road of Kalamaki (10 foot) and about 20 minutes walk from the Crystal Beach Beach. The hotel is comfortable and is spacious and orderly, with a pool reserved for customers in the centre of the hotel, with a bar open until evening and a great music of the underground (but not invasive). The rooms have an independent entrance, are quite spacious and have a living terrace with chairs and tables, air conditioning (extra costing €6 per day) and a refrigerator. Unfortunately, the only negative note is breakfast that was a little slightly sharp and medium-quality, so not at the level of expectations. It is possible not to include it in your living room, but to take the main road where there are several bars that also make cappuccino/express and so on. A tip: if you have to rent a means (what is recommended!) you should only address the large chains that can ensure you vehicles in good condition, safe and above all concrete assistance; Evite small rental services like the nearby hotel because unfortunately it has caused us a lot of problems and unnecessary stress. Finally, but not least, the hotel owners, Augustine and Vicky, are really two wonderful and hearty people; they helped us to solve the problems and invited us several times to rely on them for any problem, We are very grateful for the kindness and support we have shown. P.S. If you stay here, I strongly advise you to go to dinner at the Eliameze Tavern (6 min walk)!

Elena's Studios

Oh my days, what an absolute little gem this hotel was. Set back from the main area just far enough to be free from any noisy traffic but near enough for a gentle three minute stroll to the shops, bars etc. As with most budget Greek hotels, basic but exceptionally clean and not a scuff or mark anywhere! A small quiet pool with bar which is shared with neighbouring hotel. What impressed me most, apart from Elena's very warm and friendly welcome everyday, was the absolute quietness of the place. I would sit on my balcony overlooking the fields and all I could hear was the occasional distant dog bark and a cock crowing. Delicious bliss in my book and as a frequent visitor to the island, I will definitely return. Thank you Elena x

Vanessa Hotel

We stayed here for 11 nights and was really happy we chose this place. When we first got there I was a bit worried about how close to the main road we was, but it really didn’t effect us at all. It’s in a great central location. Rooms are basic, as always in Greece so this wasn’t a problem, but very spacious and cleaned every other day. Beds changed, fresh towels. The kitchen was was adequate, mind you I was surprised that a toaster wasn’t standard but the hotel happily lent me one for the duration of my stay for the kids breakfast. Everyone was very friendly and always willing to help. The pool area was good, especially having the separate Childrens pool with slide. My husband was slightly disappointed having seen reviews and pics about a pool table as that has now been removed. The bar / restaurant area was run by a nice team and the food we had was nice, we used it several times during our stay, one of which was their Greek night and that was packed and a real good night. We will defo return to Kalamaki and will come back to the Vanessa.

Athina Apartments

We have been to Kalamaki many times over the years, and have walked passed the Athina Apartments on our visits, so we took the plunge and booked to stay here for 9 nights from the 8th September. The apartments are ideally located. They literally back onto the main ***** in Kalamaki, and are a few minutes walk from the main Kalamaki beach. We stayed in a top floor room, overlooking the pool. The view was great, and lovelly to wake up to in the morning or to enjoy of an evening before venturing out. Because we faced away from the main *****, we did not hear it at all. The rooms are basic, and could do with a little spruce up, but they are clean and comfortable, so that's what is most important. If you are looking to cook in the room, the cooking facilities consist of 2 hot rings and that's it. There is no oven or even a microwave. So you may struggle. But if like us, the only thing we cooked in the room was some toast for breakfast (yes there is a toaster and a kettle) then its fine. The pool area has been recently installed / renovated. Its is a lovely area, however during our entire stay, we did not see any member of staff tidy up the area at all, not even straighten the sun beds at the end of the day. When we had finished using the beds, we always tidied up after ourselves, and straighten the beds up etc, but not everyone did. So the pool area tends to look very untidy at the end of the day, which is such a shame, as it looks very tranquil in the evening, so it would be nice if it looked neat too :-) There is no lift in the hotel, so if you have struggle walking up flights of stairs, we would suggest opting for a ground floor apartment. However these do open up right onto the pool area so privacy will be a factor. The staff were great, and were always at hand should you need them. Would we stay again? Of course we would! In fact we have already booked to return again next September!!
