Day 02 Boxing County, Binzhou . 📍 Spot to Visit: Dayuzhang Forest Park, a hidden gem with free admission, perfect for kids! About 20 km from Bohai International, very convenient by car~ . 🌿 Activities: The park is huge, featuring a dedicated 🛝 non-powered playground where kids can play all afternoon! There are also areas for tent camping and fishing, so parents can relax too~ . Ps: We heard there are alpacas and squirrels in the park, but unfortunately, we didn’t find them. Keep an eye out if you go~ Day 03 Huimin County, Binzhou - Zibo . 📍 First Stop: Sun Tzu’s Art of War City, about 50 km from the hotel. The 🏮 South Gate is the main entrance, very grand and great for photos! . 📖 Experience: The scenic area has 15 courtyards, each showcasing the Thirty-Six Stratagems. It takes about 2 hours to tour and is educational for kids~ . 🌃 Side Note: There was a drone show at night, but we went straight to Zibo for barbecue because you can’t miss “Jin Zi Gan Kao” (rush to Zibo for BBQ)! . 📍 Second Stop: Zibo Ceramic and Glass Museum, free but requires advance reservation. A limited number of tickets are released on the hour and half-hour, so be sure to watch for them in advance~ . 🍢 Dinner: Must have Zibo barbecue! Small pancakes wrapped with meat and scallions, so fragrant it’s intoxicating, and the kids loved it! Day 04 Zibo - Qingdao . 📍 Spot to Visit: Haidai Tower. Arrive before 9 AM; all 10 parking lots fill up quickly. It’s recommended to take a taxi or arrive early, or parking will be a huge hassle~ . 🚗 Return Trip: Spend the morning briefly touring Haidai Tower, then pack up and head back to Qingdao in the afternoon, ending the trip on a relaxed note~

Have you ever seen a bodhisattva statue with a carved cicada on its head? This is a stone bodhisattva statue with a cicada crown from the Eastern Wei dynasty, excavated from the Longhua Temple site in Boxing, Shandong. The bodhisattva’s crown features a carved cicada in the center, based on an ancient Han dynasty belief. The ancients thought cicadas could shed their shells and be reborn, symbolizing the soul’s transformation and transcendence beyond life and death. This Buddhist statue, influenced by foreign Buddhism, incorporates native Chinese culture, making it an excellent example of Buddhism’s sinicization. The soft, open facial features unique to the Eastern Wei dynasty show slightly closed eyes and a faint, reserved smile. So, after leaving the super busy streets of Busan, our cruise docked at this really quiet little port called Yeosu. Honestly, I didn't have huge expectations at first, but oh my god, it is such a hidden gem! Running my own bakery back in Hong Kong means I’m always on my feet and constantly stressed, so this slow-paced, peaceful town was exactly the healing therapy I needed. Our first stop was Odongdo Island. To get there, you walk along this long breakwater road—about 1km, but the sea breeze was so nice it didn't feel tiring at all. The island is basically like a natural green tunnel with all these lush trees. We walked up to the lighthouse at the top, and the view of the harbor was just stunning. It’s so different from the dramatic cliffs in Busan; this place has a much softer, gentler vibe. Super relaxing! Next, we headed to Yi Sun-sin Square. I watched the Korean blockbuster *The Admiral: Roaring Currents* at home a while ago, so standing in the square and seeing the giant statue of General Yi and that life-sized Turtle Ship replica... honestly, I got goosebumps! It felt like stepping straight into the movie scene. We walked around the nearby streets, grabbed some local bites for lunch, and just soaked in the history. After lunch, we drove up to Heungguksa Temple on Yeongchuisan Mountain. It’s a really ancient temple, super quiet with almost no tourists around. The main hall is so rustic and beautiful. The hotel is located in Boxing County and is owned by the neighboring building's Jingbo Holdings Group, a major Chinese 500 company – a significant player in this area. The lobby isn't particularly spacious, but it's bright, not at all cramped, and has a very homey feel. The front desk service is, and I apologize if this sounds like an exaggeration, exceptionally high, even considering my nearly 10 years of travel to and from China. The room is well-equipped, with a coffee maker and microwave in addition to the usual amenities. The cleanliness is a positive point. The toilet and bathroom are also convenient, and the vanity is quite large. The downsides are the lack of nearby shops; there's a shopping mall about a 15-minute walk away, but it's so cold in Shandong at the end of November that I wasn't confident I could endure that long. There are also almost no restaurants nearby, only two high-end restaurants catering to business entertaining. There's a convenience store behind the building, but it was closed when I went at 10 PM.
