It's really hard to find hotels with a good deal on a 5,000-point package these days, and I don't like staying at the same place repeatedly, so the legendary 23-night 5,000-point package for maintaining my status is just a dream. Also, the bug with the 40-night lounge access benefit for two years has been fixed, so I still need to stay the required number. Fortunately, I've managed to catch one or two double nights offers in recent years, so maintaining my status isn't too stressful, and getting more milestone rewards is a good way to recoup my losses. Binzhou is a relatively small city in Shandong, not a popular tourist destination. For me, the downside is the limited number of international hotels; there's only one IHG Express, two Hampton Inns, and one Harbour Plaza, all budget hotels. However, the advantage is the low price. During the summer holidays, you can find prices around 200 RMB or 6000 points, which, combined with targeted discounts, is practically free – something I've been enjoying lately. Shandong truly lives up to its reputation for hospitality. I've been generally satisfied with the IHG hotels I've stayed at there, except for the Crowne Plaza Weihai (yes, I'll continue to criticize it). It's fair to say that Weihai's hotel standards are far from keeping up with the travel boom. So, let's begin today's immersive hotel experience together. 1️⃣ Hotel Public Area Although this hotel is listed as Holiday Inn Express Binzhou Center (Wanda Plaza) on Ctrip, it's actually located in a different commercial building called Jianda Plaza, not Wanda Plaza. It is indeed almost adjacent to Wanda Plaza, but after walking around, the shops and businesses there are noticeably less upscale than those in Wanda Plaza. At night, however, it's quite lively with colorful neon lights, so the name "Holiday Inn Express Center" isn't entirely inappropriate. There are plenty of places to eat nearby. The hotel opened in 2024, so while the number of rooms is relatively small, it's still quite new. However, Holiday Inn Express has been iterating in recent years, and this 3.0 version isn't as appealing as the newly opened Holiday Inn Express Penglai and Holiday Inn Express Jimo. The lobby public area is quite small and lacks a high ceiling. Further in is the reception area, and there's a rest area to the right. The hotel rooms are on the 8th floor, as are the gym, laundry room, and restaurant. The lobby space on the first floor seems rather cramped. The sunset shadows in the guest room corridor directly opposite the elevators are quite beautiful. 2️⃣ Suite The hotel is quite friendly to Diamond members; I was upgraded to a suite without even asking. Judging from the floor plan, although this hotel has a few floors, there are quite a few suites, about five per floor. Given the relatively low occupancy rate, Diamond members have a high chance of getting an upgrade. Although it wasn't the largest suite and was just an open suite, I was still very satisfied. Upon entering, you're greeted by the minibar, with the bathroom on the right and the bedroom on the left. Due to the building's facade, the bedroom features a large, arched floor-to-ceiling window. The sleeping and living areas are separated by a TV cabinet, a standard open suite format. Interestingly, the wall between the bedroom and bathroom has been removed to install a large, semi-transparent glass panel, significantly increasing the bathroom's natural light. The room's interior, aside from two red and blue cushions on the sofa, doesn't feature any other classic Holiday Inn Express elements, but overall it has a relatively high-quality feel. The bathroom has a bathtub, although it's a bit small. The separate shower room is quite spacious. 3️⃣ Breakfast The breakfast restaurant is on the top floor and is quite large. The sandwiches for breakfast are quite good, especially fresh and tempting. The noodle station has a variety of toppings, including classic Jiaodong-style clams with soybeans, braised beef, and diced mushrooms and meat, and instant noodles are also available. The Chinese hot and cold dish station has a wide variety of dishes, with a reasonable mix of meat and vegetables, and the taste is also good. They also have Binzhou-style pot-fried pancakes. Finally, a bowl of steamed egg custard to finish is enough to fill you up. 4️⃣ Facilities The hotel gym is extremely basic, with only a flimsy treadmill and elliptical machine, and two washing machines. This aspect is definitely lacking. 5️⃣ Surroundings I took a walk this morning and felt particularly good. There's a pet cafe downstairs, a golden retriever was out for a walk, and next to it is a long, green park with shady trees, blooming flowers, and mulberry trees.
