Visiting Tanzania and going on safaris at the beginning of May, right after the rainy season, comes with both advantages and disadvantages: · Fewer tourists · Lush, gorgeous landscapes · No crowding of vehicles all trying to photograph the same animal · High grass, making it harder to spot wildlife We explored Tarangire and Arusha National Parks with Samora Explorers. Our driver was incredibly dedicated and made every effort to help us see as many animals as possible. Personally, I’d choose the off-season every time over the high season because it’s much more pleasant to enjoy the parks without large crowds.

We arrived in Arusha in February and were immediately struck by how fresh and vibrant everything felt—lush green landscapes, clear skies, and a calm vibe that welcomed us warmly. Arusha National Park was our gentle introduction to safari life. It felt unhurried, with giraffes meandering across the fields, monkeys leaping through the trees, and Mount Meru standing quietly in the background. It was peaceful and effortlessly beautiful. In Tarangire, things became more vivid and thrilling. We watched massive elephant families cross the road right before us, surrounded by iconic baobab trees. We spent a second weekend with Martin and his son Smith, who is training to be a tour guide. Martin is an excellent guide and organized a great trip for us. We did two separate day trips. On the first day, we hiked Mount Meru and enjoyed a hiking safari since Mount Meru is located in Arusha National Park. There, we were able to get very close to giraffes and buffaloes. Our hike up the mountain lasted about 4 hours, reaching 2,000 meters. The views were amazing, and when it's clear, you can even see Mount Kilimanjaro. There was also a small waterfall along the way. The second day was a day trip with our group of friends. We visited Materuni Waterfall, went on a coffee tour, explored a banana plantation, had a local lunch, and relaxed at a hot spring. It was a very enjoyable day and more affordable compared to other tour guides. We also had the chance to visit a Maasai tribe, which was a wonderful experience. It was fascinating to learn about their traditions and way of life.

Arusha Villa was the perfect place to kick off our Tanzania trip, and we highly recommend it for anyone arriving on a late-night flight. We landed at Kilimanjaro International Airport around 1 AM local time after nearly 24 hours of travel from California, feeling both exhausted and a bit nervous about navigating a new country at that hour. Everything went seamlessly. Our driver was ready and waiting as promised, the drive to Arusha took about an hour and was very comfortable, and upon arrival, the staff made us feel truly welcome — even at such a late hour. The rooms were secure, peaceful, and beautifully designed. The beds were incredibly comfortable — just what we needed after such a long journey — and having plenty of hot water felt like a small but very appreciated luxury after all those hours of flying. Waking up the next morning, we were treated to a fantastic breakfast buffet featuring fresh fruit, delicious coffee, and everything we needed to fuel up for the day ahead. It was the perfect start before heading out on our safari. Throughout our stay, the staff, like everywhere else in Tanzania, showed incredible warmth and hospitality, making us feel completely at home. An extraordinary accommodation by a lake, nestled in the forest. The facilities were exceptionally clean and well-maintained. The staff was incredibly friendly. Bernadetta, Sharifa, and Kalub assisted us during our stay, doing a fantastic job, always cheerful and readily available. What a magical setting along the Usa River! Although we only stayed one night, we’re grateful for the experience. Freddy gave us a fantastic walking tour by the river, pointing out stingless honey bees and blue-faced monkeys in the trees! We enjoyed cocktails at the river patio—my favorite spot on the property—where Kelvin made an amazing margarita and a frozen mint lemonade. Dinner was outstanding, and I highly recommend the Chicken Curry dish. After a peaceful night’s sleep accompanied by the sound of the rushing river, Emmanuel had our morning coffee ready alongside a wonderful breakfast buffet with a great variety of fresh fruits. Megan, Michelle, and the front desk team made both check-in and check-out smooth, even assisting with getting some souvenirs shipped home. Meeting her in person confirmed my positive impression—she has a natural ability to intuitively cater to her guests' needs, ensuring a homely and nurturing atmosphere. Her team is equally wonderful—Leah, who cleaned my room every two days, was always kind, gentle, and ready to assist with a smile. Sana, the co-chef (with menus designed by Mischa), prepared abundant and delicious meals. Despite my smaller appetite, I could tell larger appetites would be fully satisfied here. During my stay in Tanzania's colder season, I appreciated the lodge’s cozy fireplace in the evenings, complete with warm blankets and drinks. The grounds were beautifully maintained, featuring a vegetable garden, chicken coop, and vibrant flowers and plants. As I write this review, I'm enjoying their communal rooftop terrace with a breathtaking view of Mount Meru. 😍 I had a wonderful excursion to Arusha National Park Safari, organized by Mischa and the lodge. My driver, John, who also handled my airport pickup and drop-off, was excellent, making it a memorable first safari experience. Overall, I'm thrilled Moyoni Africa Lodge was my introduction to Tanzania, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to friends and family. A delightful experience at this amazing facility just outside Arusha. The rooms are comfortable, spacious, and spotless, equipped with everything you need. The international breakfast is excellent, but the highlight is definitely the dinner. If you have the chance, dine here, as they truly make you feel at home. The waiter Obama is incredibly kind, and Zawadi is just as wonderful. Receptionist Ebenezer welcomed us warmly even though we arrived late at night, coordinating our airport transfer from Kilimanjaro International Airport as well. Kudos to chef Innocent, Aidami, and Erick for their fantastic cooking. The food is high-quality, flavorful, and wholesome—dinner was especially enjoyable. A well-deserved 5-star experience!

Though my stay was brief, the lodge was incredible. The suite I stayed in was very spacious and had a steady supply of hot water. The breakfast served was delightful, and the pool area offered stunning views. I wish I could have extended my time there, but my schedule didn’t permit it. Above all, the staff were exceptionally kind, accommodating, and made me feel very welcome.

We stayed at this beautiful lodge, located in a lush and well-maintained setting. The lovely garden, tranquility, and warm welcome made us feel at home right away. The meals were outstanding as well. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner were served at different charming spots on the property, making every dining experience unique. Extra care was given to gluten-free options, which was handled thoughtfully and attentively. Even the picnic was delicious and put together with great care. The sustainable and well-presented packaging was a detail we truly appreciated. A very pleasant and peaceful place where hospitality, quality, and attention to detail take center stage.

We stayed for 2 nights. The hotel is about an hour's drive from JRO (25-30 km) and approximately 15 minutes from Arusha city center by cab or bajaji/tuktuk (9,000-15,000 TNZS). It felt safe and quiet at night. Our room was clean, well-lit, spacious, and equipped with mosquito nets and a balcony where we enjoyed a lovely view of Mt Meru. The beds were comfortable, and we slept well. The bathroom was a decent size, though there was no shower separation, so the floor got wet. However, the space was large enough to shower without soaking the toilet area. We dined at the onsite restaurant and loved the carrot ginger soup and avocado salad for dinner. Breakfast offered a good variety, with both hot and cold, made-to-order options. There's a small pool and a beautifully landscaped yard where you can relax. The staff was exceptionally friendly, with Joseph, the manager, providing excellent and prompt communication before and during our stay. If needed, bring your own lotion, hair conditioner, hand towel, or washcloth, as only bath towels are provided. Like other places we stayed, the WiFi was spotty, but being off-grid was exactly what we needed!

When planning our trip, we emphasized that spotting wildlife and enjoying stunning landscapes were our top priorities. The itinerary matched this flawlessly: one day in Arusha National Park, two days in Tarangire National Park, three days in the Serengeti, and one day in the Ngorongoro Crater. We purposely chose a safari-focused journey and did not visit Zanzibar. Everything was meticulously arranged. We were especially impressed by how well-informed everyone was about food allergies. Eating gluten-free in Tanzania turned out to be easier than in many European countries! Each lodge had its own unique charm and character. They were all distinct but equally extraordinary and unforgettable. Our favorite was Kubu Kubu Tented Lodge, with its stunning views of the Serengeti and its inviting reception and dining area. A special mention must go to our guide, Hassan. He often spotted animals long before we did. Beyond his remarkable wildlife-spotting skills, he had excellent driving abilities and an intuitive understanding of what we valued most during our safari. Thanks to him, we fully enjoyed everything Tanzania has to offer. This was, without a doubt, the most impressive and unforgettable trip we have ever taken. We have absolutely no complaints about the organization.

Communication was excellent; we even received reminders about important things not to forget. This was invaluable for our first trip outside Europe! Transportation was seamless, with a driver always ready to pick us up and take us to our destination. We felt very safe and appreciated the bottled water provided along the way. Our safari began, and we met our guide for the next five days: Bernard—fondly called Benny. It was truly an honor to have him as our guide! His passion for his work and endless knowledge about wildlife and Tanzania deeply enriched our experience. We learned so much, and Benny made the safari unforgettable. He was always punctual, accommodating, and ensured we saw the Big Five. Thank you, Benny! Following the safari, our transition to Zanzibar was smooth, with every detail well-organized. All the hotels were wonderful, and the food, especially at Olerai Lodge, was outstanding! The only improvement we’d suggest is skipping the spice farm trip, as that time could have been better spent elsewhere.

We spent one night and a day at the Mateves Boutique Lodge. The rooms were rustic but very clean! The property was absolutely beautiful and pleasantly natural. The staff were extremely friendly and genuinely warm. The food was homemade with natural ingredients, and you could truly taste the difference. Everything was prepared with love! All in all, a truly wonderful lodge.

The hotel is a perfect starting point for day trips to Arusha National Park and the Mount Meru waterfalls. We stayed in a huge interconnecting family room (three rooms + two bathrooms), all very clean. The staff were friendly and extremely helpful. One of our suitcases got switched at the airport, but the receptionist resolved the issue with multiple calls to the airport and tour operator, and we had our correct suitcase by the same evening. Food and drinks were good, and the dinner atmosphere with zebras and wildebeests passing by was fantastic. Excellent value for money.

The staff provided outstanding service, and the food was fantastic. They thoughtfully remembered our dietary preferences and catered to them. However, it's located quite far from the city, so expect about an hour's drive if you plan to visit spots in Arusha.

We booked a 4-day self-drive safari with a convoy of six 4x4s from Shaw Safaris. It was a delightful experience, and we thoroughly enjoyed the rustic but reliable old Land Rovers, which gave us the authentic feel of a classic safari adventure. The vehicles and gear were well-maintained. All we needed to bring along were our food, snacks, clothes, and a sense of adventure!
