I went to the Museu de Olaria (Ceramics Museum) in Barcelos. It's a fascinating space filled with the cheerfulness, playfulness, and warmth of Barcelos pottery. From the giant Galo de Barcelos monument, humorous devil and animal sculptures, works from the Viseu region, famous for its black pottery, and a large ceramic installation in the garden, each exhibit is unique and powerful, as if they were a direct manifestation of the region's culture. The Barcelos pottery, which I often see at the weekly flea market, looks different when viewed systematically in the museum. It was as if the "earth and lifestyle" of the Minho region had been transformed into art. If you're in Barcelos, this is a must-see. Just about an hour by train from Porto, Barcelos is a town where simplicity and vibrancy coexist. It happened to be the day of the weekly Thursday flea market, and the entire town was enveloped in a relaxed yet lively atmosphere. Barcelos is known as the birthplace of the "Galo" (rooster), a symbol of Portugal. A giant Galo statue stands in the square, its vivid red color shining even brighter under the blue sky. 📍Flea Market (Feira de Barcelos) The market was larger than I had imagined, with stalls selling everything from ceramics, handicrafts, and local art to vegetables and cheese. I was particularly drawn to the hand-painted Galo figurines. Each one was unique in color and expression, reflecting the individuality of the artisans. The town's famous red clay pottery was also on display, with its warm texture making it perfect for serving Portuguese home-cooked meals. 📍Strolling Through the Old Town Under the blue sky, leaves from the street trees gently fell on a quiet afternoon. The old town is dotted with ancient walls, towers, Baroque-style gardens, and churches, creating picturesque scenes at every turn. The view of the town from a hilltop, bathed in soft sunlight, was refreshingly beautiful. Its calm, non-touristy vibe is another charm of Barcelos. 📍Summary A town that feels simple, bright, and warm. While it may not be a major tourist destination, the more you walk, the more its colors and warmth seep into your experience. #mytripvlog Braga is the fifth largest city in Portugal and an hour away from Porto. Park Avenida Central (Jardim da Avenida Central) is located at Republic Square in the historic center of Braga. There is a children's playground right next to the 3-storey McDonald's where we had our lunch after visiting Bom Jesus do Monte. You can also see a bandstand built in the 19th century. The most iconic landmark you can see from the park is probably the Catholic church Congregados Basilica, next to Department of Music of the University of Minho. Address - Museu Arqueológico Highlights - this archaeological site was the mediaeval gallows were legend says a man who visited the town was attracted by a local woman whom the man turned her down. She was upset by this and put some silverware in his luggage and accused him of stealing. He pled his innocence as he was due to be executed and said if the rooster/chicken makes the ko-ko noise at a certain this would prove his innocence and it did. This venue has amazing views of both sides of the river and bridge Rating - 5/5 2. Address - Templo do Senhor Bom Jesus da Cruz Highlights - beautiful inside of the church and had golden frames and beautiful blue tiles. Rating - 4/5
