This hotel was amazing for a three-day stay with the kids!
01 Chengdu | Sichuan
November in Chengdu is a beautiful autumn day, perfect for a relaxing three-day stay with kids.
⏰ In the morning, head to the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. The pandas are most active during opening hours, and strollers can easily navigate the main loop. The park is quite large, so allow at least three hours.
📍 The base is located on Panda Avenue in Chenghua District, about a 40-minute taxi ride from the city center. Leave early to avoid crowds.
In the afternoon, head to Qingcheng Mountain and Dujiangyan. The front of the mountain has many stone steps; for children, taking the cable car is recommended to save time and effort.
⚠️ November in the mountains is damp and chilly, three to four degrees Celsius lower than in the city. Don't skimp on a light down jacket and non-slip shoes. The flat sections of the Dujiangyan scenic area are suitable for strollers, making it easy to see the water and dams without getting tired.
On the third day, consider visiting Anren Ancient Town. The old street is short, with a concentration of mansions; two hours is sufficient for a leisurely stroll.
🍜 Enjoy a bowl of fatty intestine noodles with leaf-wrapped rice cakes in town; kids love it. Tiantai Mountain is more hiking-oriented; the autumn leaves are beautiful, but the hike is long, making it a better alternative in a three-day trip. Don't force it.
For accommodation, consider staying near Chunxi Road or Kuanzhai Alley for convenient dining and easy return to the hotel.
🚄 A combination of subway and taxi is the most reliable option. Don't rush to see as many attractions as possible with kids; two per day is the maximum.
02 Lingshui | Hainan
In November, Lingshui is still warm enough for short sleeves, but the breeze is more comfortable than in midsummer. If you're taking children to the water, keep an eye on sunscreen and wave warnings.
⏰ For Fenjiezhou Island, it's recommended to take the first boat in the morning. It's less crowded, has better lighting, and the island's walking trails are suitable for strollers. The snorkeling area's opening time depends on the sea conditions that day.
📍 The pier is located towards Li'an in Lingshui. Check boat schedules in advance; ferries may be suspended in strong winds.
⚠️ Prices on the island are relatively high; stock up on drinking water and snacks in town. Children must be supervised closely by an adult when swimming; don't just look at the shallow water.
Nanwan Monkey Island is best visited in half a day. The cable car section across the sea offers good views, but macaques may snatch food.
⚠️ Don't carry plastic bags or food. Keep hats and glasses away. Children should not approach the railings alone. Shows on the island are scheduled in sessions; don't detour to catch them.
Eat and stay in Qingshui Bay or the county town. Seafood in the county town is more affordable; ask the price before ordering.
🍜 Sour rice noodles and coconut chicken are suitable for children. For a three-day itinerary, we recommend one day on the island, one day on Monkey Island plus a walk on the beach, and the remaining half day for the hotel pool and a nap.
03 Beihai|Guangxi
In November, Beihai gets windy. Daytime temperatures are in the twenties (Celsius) and you can wear short sleeves, but you'll need a light jacket in the mornings and evenings. The wind at the beach is strong, so don't just bring summer clothes.
⏰ It's recommended to stay overnight on Weizhou Island. A day trip is too rushed, and ferry schedules are affected by wind and waves, so be sure to check before departure.
Be extra careful when renting electric scooters with children on the island, as the roads are narrow and crowded.
📍 Watch the sunrise at Wucai Beach and the sunset at Dishui Danping. The Shiluokou area has a concentration of restaurants and accommodations.
⚠️ After buying seafood at the market, negotiate the processing fee before ordering. Avoid impulsive purchases from temporary stalls at the pier.
Beihai Silver Beach has fine sand and a wide beach at low tide, perfect for children to run around.
⏰ Evening is the most comfortable time to visit; the UV rays are still strong at midday.
🚄 It takes about 20 minutes by taxi from the city center to Silver Beach. Staying near Qiaogang makes it convenient for late-night snacks.
A three-day itinerary could include one day on the island, one day at Silver Beach and Qiaogang, and half a day exploring the old street.
🍜 The Vietnamese rice rolls and sweet soups in Qiaogang are suitable for children. Bring spare clothes and small towels when playing in the sand at the beach. Don't let children get wet and chilly for extended periods when it's windy.
04 Meizhou | Guangdong
November in Meizhou is a comfortable autumn month. The mornings and evenings are cool, and the days are sunny. At this time, the leaves in the Yan Nan Fei tea fields are still green, but the air is crisp and perfect for a leisurely walk.
⏰ Enter the tea fields in the morning. The mist has dissipated, the light is soft, and the paths are gently sloping, suitable for strollers, the elderly, and children.
📍 Yan Nan Fei is located in Yanyang Town, Meixian County, about a 40-minute drive from the city center. There are sightseeing buses available in the tea fields; you can take a ride if you get tired.
⚠️ There are many tea shops in the tea fields. Try the tea before you buy; don't be swayed by their sales pitches.
For children, you can watch tea-picking demonstrations and walk along the tea garden paths. An hour and a half is sufficient.
🍜 The Hakka cuisine at the scenic area restaurants tends to be salty. When ordering, ask for less salt. The salt-baked chicken and stuffed tofu are popular with children. Visit one of the surrounding Hakka walled villages along the way; no need to visit them all.
For accommodation, I recommend staying in Meijiang District. In the evening, stroll through the old streets and try pickled noodles and Sanjidi soup.
🚄 Take the high-speed train to Meizhou West Station, then a 20-minute taxi ride into the city. A three-day trip could include one day spent in the tea fields, one day exploring the old town, and one day visiting nearby ancient villages – a more relaxed pace is suitable for families with children.
05 Huangshi | Hubei
Huangshi's autumn colors are at their peak in November. The lakeside is cool, making Chengyue Island a better place for a walk than a major tourist attraction for children.
⏰ Go around 3 or 4 pm when the light is at its lowest point, making the lake view beautiful. A walk around the island takes about an hour.
📍 Chengyue Island is located on the shore of Cihu Lake, connected by a bridge; strollers can easily cross.
⚠️ There is little shade on the island, and it can be windy in November, so bring a windproof jacket for your child. The railings by the lake are low, so be careful not to let go when looking at the water.
For accommodation and dining in Huangshi, choose the Tuanchengshan area in the city center. It's convenient for meals and close to the lake.
🍜 For breakfast, try hot dry noodles and rice noodle soup. If your child prefers milder flavors, reduce the spice. The three-day itinerary doesn't need to be packed. Spend one day leisurely walking along the lake and one day visiting city parks and museums. Check opening hours for each day.
⚠️ Some venues are closed on Mondays; check official announcements before departure. When traveling with children, it's best to have one major activity and some free time each day to save time. Don't cram all the travel into one day.
06 Ningbo|Zhejiang
November in Ningbo is crisp and clear with significant temperature differences between day and night. A combination of cultural and historical town visits is suitable for families with children.
⏰ Visit Tianyi Pavilion and Yuehu Lake in the morning. The gardens aren't large; an hour and a half is just right. If your child isn't very interested in the old library, spend more time running around Yuehu Lake.
📍 Tianyi Pavilion is in Haishu District, right next to Yuehu Lake, so it's convenient and you won't have to turn back.
⚠️ No running or chasing allowed in indoor exhibition areas; explain the rules to your children beforehand.
Xikou Tengtou Tourist Area is suitable for half a day; it features villages and farmland, with smooth roads, making it stroller-friendly.
🚄 It's about an hour's drive from the city center; leave early to avoid peak return traffic. Qiantong Ancient Town can be visited on the third day; it has canals running through the village and many stone bridges. ⚠️ The stone slabs are slippery, so bring non-slip shoes for children.
For food and accommodation, it's recommended to stay near Haishu or Tianyi Square for convenient dining options in the evenings.
🍜 Tangyuan (sweet rice balls), rice cakes, and seafood noodles are all suitable for children. Three days for two ancient towns and one garden is a good pace; don't try to do too much.
07 Bijie|Guizhou
Bijie in November is already cold, with large temperature differences between day and night. Prepare for early winter with children; bring fleece and a windproof jacket.
⏰ Zhijin Cave maintains a constant temperature year-round, though it's cool and damp inside. The entire hike takes about two hours; children should slow down if they get tired, and don't rush the group.
📍 Zhijin Cave is located in Zhijin County. There are many steps inside, ⚠️ and the ground is slippery. Hold your child's hand tightly, and watch your step in dimly lit areas. The temperature outside the cave is low; adjust clothing accordingly when entering and exiting.
November is not the peak blooming season for Baili Rhododendron, but the late autumn scenery and crisp air make it suitable for a short hike. Don't go expecting to see all the flowers.
⚠️ The scenic area is large and connected by sightseeing buses; check the daily schedule in advance.
🍜 In Bijie city, try mutton rice noodles and buckwheat jelly. If children are sensitive to spice, order a clear broth version.
Accommodation is recommended in Qixingguan District for convenient travel. A three-day trip could include one day at Zhijin Cave, one day a leisurely hike towards Baili Rhododendron, and one day resting in the city. Mountainous areas have long driving distances, so avoid scheduling two distant destinations on the same day.
08 Xi'an | Shaanxi
Xi'an in November is turning cooler as autumn ends; a thick coat is needed in the mornings and evenings. For a three-day stay with children, the key is to avoid long queues and allow plenty of free time.
⏰ For the Qin Shi Huang Terracotta Army Museum, it's recommended to enter as soon as it opens, starting with Pit 1. Move away as the crowds rise. Strollers are allowed inside, but some areas require storage.
📍 The Terracotta Army is located in Lintong, about an hour from the city center. ⚠️ Tickets and reservations are subject to official announcements on the day; don't trust touts offering explanations on the street. On the way back, try Lintong pomegranates; November is the perfect time to enjoy them.
The Xi'an City Wall is best visited in the afternoon. Rent a family bicycle and ride it for a while; bring a jacket for children if it's windy.
⏰ The light is good at dusk, avoiding backlighting in photos. The History Museum requires advance reservations. ⚠️ Closed on Mondays; if you can't get tickets, try the area around the Small Wild Goose Pagoda instead.
In November, the leaves in the Qinling Zhongnan Mountains are just finishing their fall, and it's chilly in the mountains. If you're traveling with children, stick to the gentler sections and avoid venturing too deep.
🍜 In the city, try paomo (pita bread soaked in mutton soup) or roujiamo (Chinese hamburger). If your child prefers a milder flavor, choose clear broth. Choose accommodation near the Bell Tower or Big Wild Goose Pagoda for convenient subway access and to avoid the hassle of traveling at night.
After three days, you'll realize that when traveling with children, the city's attractions aren't as important as the ability to slow down. Choosing a city with two breaks in between is more worthwhile than a packed itinerary.
