For me, surprisingly, it was the Egyptian Pyramids. The pyramids themselves are truly impressive, but the experience of visiting them was honestly quite disappointing. People on camels constantly and very insistently offering rides, local youth and children stopping you for photos, a rather unorganised area, and wandering around between the pyramids under the hot sun just made the whole experience stressful rather than magical 😅 What about you? You walk in and suddenly there is this enormous church built into the rock, with rows and rows of seats surrounded by natural stone walls. The scale of it is crazy. 😳 And the best part? It was so peaceful when I visited. No huge tourist crowd. No rushing around trying to get a photo. I could actually slow down, walk around and take in all the little details carved into the rock. This is exactly the kind of place I love discovering when I travel — somewhere I didn’t expect much from, but ended up giving me a complete WOAH moment. The Cave Church of St. Simon the Tanner is built into the rocky Mokattam Mountain, and the moment I walked inside my reaction was basically… WOAH. 😳 The huge natural rock walls surrounding the church, the carvings, the open amphitheatre-style space and the sheer scale of everything make it feel completely different from the usual attractions in Cairo. (Inside Egypt) Photos really don’t show how impressive it feels when you’re actually standing inside. And the best part for me? It felt like such an unexpected discovery. This wasn’t one of those places I had heard people talking about again and again before my Egypt trip, but after visiting, I genuinely think it deserves MUCH more attention. If you’re visiting Cairo, I definitely recommend spending some time walking through Khan el-Khalili Market. For me, this wasn’t just a place to shop. It felt like walking straight into a completely different side of Cairo — busy, colourful, slightly chaotic, but full of culture and identity. ✨ Every few steps there was something else catching my eye: colourful mosaic lamps glowing everywhere, brass lanterns hanging from the ceiling, little Egyptian souvenirs, handmade pieces, jewellery, artwork and tiny shops packed with things from floor to ceiling. I honestly loved just walking around and looking at everything. 😍 Even if you don’t plan to buy much, the atmosphere itself is worth experiencing. And one thing I definitely wouldn’t miss — the gentlemen walking around carrying those HUGE traditional teapots! 😂 Seeing them serving flower tea in the middle of the market was such a small thing, but it became one of those moments that made the whole place feel even more special to me. There are also little cafés hidden between the shops, so I’d recommend not rushing through. Walk slowly, look into the little alleys, stop for a drink and just enjoy the atmosphere. What I loved most about Khan el-Khalili is that it doesn’t feel polished or perfectly organised — and I think that’s exactly the charm of it. It’s crowded, colourful, noisy and full of character. We were searching for a one-night stay that was budget-friendly, yet beautiful and included breakfast! We booked a room on the top floor (right on the terrace) so we could wake up at sunrise and see a world wonder—the Egyptian Pyramids—right from our window, and later enjoy Arabic coffee over breakfast while taking in such beauty! · The view from the room is truly spectacular, whether in the morning or during the evening light show! Absolutely stunning! Overall, the room is cozy; it's on the smaller side but has everything you need. · Location: You can easily walk to the pyramid complex in just 5–10 minutes . It's perfect if you want to be there right when it opens or to catch the sunset. · Evening vibe: After sunset, the rooftop transforms into a cozy cafe. You can hang out with some tea or shisha while watching the pyramid light show . · Host and comfort: The vibe here is very family-oriented. The owners genuinely care about their guests: they’ll help with airport transfers, recommend walking routes, or brew you a "Korean-style coffee" (a quirky specialty of the hotel) . Pros: · A stunning terrace offering pyramid views and tranquility, which is a big deal in areas like this. · Very reasonable price. · Bathrobes provided in the rooms · Super comfortable beds and pillows. Cons: · The area around the hotel has several unfinished buildings, but the construction seems to be on hold. · The top-floor rooms open directly onto the terrace, which felt a bit less private for us, but since we only stayed one night, keeping the curtains drawn did the trick. · You can hear the elevator running from the room, and the exhaust fan is slightly noisy—but honestly, after a long day of walking, it barely bothered us. And as it turned out – I'll tell you right away – IT'S IMPOSSIBLE❗️ You need a full day for the Giza Valley, but there's no point in planning anything else. I'm talking about the new museum, the city itself, and a few other places. The pyramids are located 15-25 kilometers southwest of central Cairo. ⠀ 𓅓The main pyramid complexes of Giza: The Great Pyramids of Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure, as well as the Great Sphinx. Saqqara: The oldest step pyramid of Djoser. Dahshur: The Bent and Pink (Red) Pyramids. ⠀ ﹏𓊝﹏By yourself or with a guide? And why use one? · Since we only had one day, we decided to take a guide with airport transfers, a walking program on the Giza plateau, and detailed explanations. Our guide is a history graduate, and he knew more than we could read online. ✔️He spoke our language perfectly and knew many places tourists don't go. ⠀ 𓁈Pros: · He warded off local photographers and those trying to sell us something. · He knew the best places to go to avoid queues.
