If you're ever in Okinawa, I'd definitely include the American Village in Chatan on your itinerary. It's one of those places you come "just to see" and easily end up spending several hours there. 📍 Mihama American Village, Chatan It's about a 30-40-minute drive from Naha Airport—the exact time depends on traffic. The complex itself is right on the coast. 🌈 WHY IS IT WORTH VISITING HERE? Because this is not the Okinawa you imagined. It features brightly colored buildings, palm trees, neon lights, quaint shops, cafes, restaurants, and countless details that beg to be photographed. It feels like a mix of America, Okinawa, and a bit of a fairytale town. That's why it's practically impossible to walk a few meters here without stopping for a photo. 📸 THERE ARE SO MANY PHOTO POINTS HERE And that's probably one of the main reasons to come. You can take photos: 🌴 against the backdrop of brightly colored buildings and palm trees 🌊 by the sea and on the waterfront 🌅 during sunset 🏘️ among the colorful streets 💡 in the evening, when the signs and lights come on 🍹 on cafe terraces overlooking the ocean And the photos turn out completely different – ​​no need to look for just one beautiful spot. 🍦 AND NOW THE MAIN THING – THE FOOD! This is where you can have a real gastronomic marathon 😂 In and around American Village, there are a huge number of restaurants, cafes, and establishments serving a variety of cuisines: Japanese, Okinawan, American, Mexican, Italian, and much more. Okinawa's official tourism website specifically notes the large number of restaurants in the area. And my must-try is Blue Seal 🍦 That's the famous Okinawan ice cream chain. And if you haven't tried Blue Seal in Okinawa yet, this is the place to do it. There are so many flavors that choosing just one is a challenge 😅 American Village has its own Blue Seal Depot Island Seaside, so you won't have to look far. 🌊 DON'T MISS THE BOARDWALK After shopping and eating, be sure to head to the sea. Depot Island Boardwalk is one of the most pleasant places to stroll: you can simply stroll along the water, stop at a café, sit with an ice cream, and wait for the sunset. And sunsets here are truly considered one of the main attractions of Chatan. ☔ WHAT IF THE WEATHER TURNS BAD? I would still go. This is one of those times when rain doesn't necessarily ruin the day. You can hide in a cafe or restaurant, stroll through shops, browse souvenir shops, eat, try a Blue Seal, admire the unusual interiors, and take photos in a completely different mood. American Village even has a movie theater and other entertainment, so it's not just a place for lounging in the sun. ⏰ HOW MUCH SHOULD I ALLOCATE? I'd allocate at least 2-4 hours, but if you want to eat well, stroll by the sea, take photos, and wait for the sunset, you can easily set aside half a day. This is the recommended time range for the official itinerary for Okinawa's main island. My verdict on the Okinawa itinerary: American Village is more than just "looking at colorful houses." There are several Blue Seal locations, so you can choose the one you like best. The best one overlooks the sea and promenade. That's where my photos were taken. 🌊💙 And this is one of those times when the location itself makes the ice cream even more delicious: you sit with a bright blue scoop, surrounded by palm trees, the sea, and a beautiful promenade—and it feels like you've stepped into a perfect Okinawa postcard. 🍦 And now about the flavors! Very unusual, light, and incredibly perfect for Okinawa. 🧂 OKINAWAN SALT COOKIES — creamy ice cream with Okinawan salt cookies. The combination of sweet and slightly salty is simply 🔥. And this is one of those flavors you really want to try in Okinawa. 🍓🍫 NEAPOLITAN — a familiar classic with strawberry, chocolate, and vanilla. If you don't feel like experimenting, this is a great option. The selection is huge: there are classic flavors, an American line, and many completely unusual Okinawan flavors, such as purple sweet potato, black sugar, shikuwasa, Okinawa Pineapple Coconut, and others. However, the selection may vary at different locations. 💴 PRICES At the time of my visit: 1 scoop — ¥400 2 scoops — ¥670 3 scoops — ¥950 💙 My advice: don't limit yourself to just one scoop! Try two different flavors and create your own tasting experience. To get here from Naha Airport, you can take the Limousine Bus or the Airport Shuttle—a 50 to 90-minute ride. Just hop off at the "Chatan Gate" or "Gunbyoin-mae" stop and walk for about 10 minutes. If you're driving, it’s just a quick 10-minute trip from the Okinawa Minami IC. 🚗💨 The hotel is packed with amenities! On the rooftop, you'll find an infinity pool, a whirlpool, and a kids' wading pool (available for a fee), plus a large communal bath where guests can unwind. Just got back from Naha, and staying at this amazing hotel was such a pleasant surprise! 😆 Rihga Royal Gran Okinawa 📍The location is absolutely incredible! The hotel is right in the heart of Naha, at 1-9 Asahimachi, Naha City. It's only a 10-minute monorail ride from Naha Airport to Asahibashi Station 🚝. Just a 2-minute walk across the skybridge from the station to the second floor of the hotel. Incredibly convenient! 🌟Hotel Highlights: 🏨The lobby is on the 14th floor, with a fantastic view! ☕️Restaurants, bars, and cafes are all available. 💼Business center + luggage storage + concierge service 🍽️A must-try for foodies: Dining 19 on the 14th floor is a must-visit! The buffet breakfast had an amazing variety of choices, including local Okinawan specialties. Enjoying breakfast while gazing at the Kerama Islands was such a delightful experience! 🥹 🛍️Nearby Attractions: A 10-minute walk to Kokusai-dori shopping street 🛒 No worries about shopping or eating! The hotel is right next to the Naha Bus Terminal, making it super convenient to visit Shuri Castle and American Village. 💫Hotel Experience: The room was really spacious! What I love most is that Okinawa offers so much more than just a "beautiful sea." You can experience a variety of things in one trip: Cape Manzamo for its dramatic cliffside views, Kouri Island with its stunning sea-crossing bridge, the iconic Churaumi Aquarium, the peaceful tree-lined paths of Bise Village, and American Village for those seeking a fun atmosphere filled with shops, restaurants, and great photo spots. If you're an adventure seeker, there is snorkeling, glass-bottom boat tours, kayaking, and SUP to suit your style. Some days, the best thing to do is simply find a beautiful beach, sit back, look at the ocean, and let time slip away—that alone makes the trip worth it. The food scene is also much more diverse than I expected! 🍜 You have to try Okinawa Soba, Taco Rice, Goya Champuru (bitter melon stir-fry), Umibudo (sea grapes), purple sweet potato treats, and sea salt ice cream. Each dish has a distinct character that gives you a true taste of Okinawa’s culture beyond just the beach scenery. Another highlight for me was the seaside cafes. The atmosphere is worlds away from the hustle and bustle of big cities. Sipping a cold drink while gazing at the waves is when this trip truly felt like a "real vacation." If it’s your first time, I recommend not overpacking your schedule. Okinawa is best enjoyed by car, allowing you to stop whenever you see something interesting. Often, the hidden gems that aren't on the famous lists—like a small roadside shop or a quiet viewpoint—end up being the highlights of the journey. Blue Seal is an absolute must-have for me whenever I visit Okinawa! This time, I stopped by the American Village location to grab a bite. Let me tell you all about it! 📍Blue Seal ✅ Okinawa's iconic ice cream brand ✅ Sea Salt and Blue Wave are the signature flavors I heard that Blue Seal is a brand that actually started in Okinawa back in 1984!! The sign is super colorful and really easy to spot from a distance. They have a ton of different flavors, but I highly recommend the Sea Salt flavor. That sweet and salty combo is just absolutely delicious! To order, you just use the kiosk!! Once you're done, just follow the staff's instructions. They also sell merch! T-shirts, tumblers, tote bags, and more!! Everything was so cute. The Blue Wave flavor tastes a lot like a refreshing soda ice pop, so if you're a fan of that classic soda flavor, you're going to love this one! And you know taking a photo right in front of the sign is an absolute must, right!? After wandering around the American Village, make sure to wrap up your day with some Blue Seal ice cream!

I visited a popular cafe in American Village. It's a cafe called Zhyvago. Let me tell you all about it!!! 📍 Zhyvago Cafe Address Japan 〒904-0115 Okinawa, Nakagami District, Chatan, Mihama, 9-46 Zhyvago Coffee Works Okinawa Distortion Seaside Building 1F Hours 07:00-20:00 This place gave off total American West Coast vibes while enjoying a cup of coffee. Honestly, sitting down for a coffee break during the sunset was so much better than during the day!! They’re known for their lattes, so I ordered one, and wow, why is it so good?!!! It was an incredibly smooth and creamy latte. The interior has a super hip aesthetic, but since it was raining, we sat out on the terrace to soak in the atmospheric vibes. I totally get why Zhyvago Cafe is so famous now. If you ever visit American Village and want some coffee, you absolutely must go to Zhyvago!

I want to share a recap of my trip to Okinawa. As soon as I arrived, I dropped off my luggage and headed straight to American Village! I was short on time and had to get there quickly, so I took a local bus. Let me tell you all about it! 📍American Village Address 15-69 Mihama, Chatan, Nakagami District, Okinawa 904-0115 This is my second time visiting Okinawa, and coming back after 8 years had me so hyped up again!!! It's gorgeous during the day, but I think it’s truly the most beautiful in the early evening during sunset. I hopped on a bus right in front of my hotel that goes directly to American Village, and the ride took about an hour. A lot of people take local bus #120 to get there, so definitely keep that in mind!!! American Village was built around a U.S. military base, so it totally gives off strong LA vibes. With so many great restaurants, cafes, and attractions, I highly recommend it as a super fun travel destination!!! If you ever travel to Okinawa, you really need to check this place out! The sunset views here are especially stunning, so make sure to time your visit to catch the sunset!!

DAY 1 Renting a car is practically a must in Okinawa!🚘 We used Times Rent-a-Car and booked in advance through Trip.com. After picking up the car, we headed straight to American Village!🇺🇸 · *Make sure to visit here at sunset!!**🌅 The atmosphere where the sea and the sunset blend together is truly beautiful, and it was the perfect spot for taking photos📸 And if you come to Okinawa, you absolutely must try Blue Seal ice cream🍦💙 Afterward, we moved on to the Oriental Hotel Okinawa Resort & Spa! I highly recommend this place✨ Unlike typical Japanese hotels, the rooms were really spacious and comfortable, which was great. The room view was beautiful, and the breakfast had a wide variety of options, so our satisfaction was top-notch! It was a hotel I would definitely want to stay at again if I visit Okinawa next time 🏨🤍 DAY 2 If you come to Okinawa, you absolutely have to visit the Churaumi Aquarium! 🐠 The scale is truly massive, and the actual whale sharks are much more magnificent than in photos, so I found myself staring at them for a long time. In the evening, I went shopping at Don Quijote 🛍️ I cleared out everything, from souvenirs to snacks 😂 DAY 3 The sea in Okinawa needs no introduction… 💙 And you absolutely MUST visit Kouri Bridge!! They offer not only creative Izakaya dishes but also a wide variety of Okinawan cuisine, and it seemed quite popular among the locals as well. The staff are all very friendly, the interior is dimly lit with a great atmosphere, and the food is reasonably priced. There are also tables on the wooden deck in front of the restaurant, so you can enjoy your meal outside. Vongole: 1,380 yen Tuna Steak: 880 yen The vongole was loaded with clams and absolutely delicious!
