Standing by the lake, with towering snowy mountains and a deep blue sky behind you, every shot is a masterpiece 📸 (wearing bright-colored clothes is recommended for better photos) 📍【Super Detailed Guide】 Landmark: Chaza Village, Cuomei County, Shannan City, Tibet Transportation: Stay overnight in Cuomei County, then drive 2 hours the next day (including 1 hour on unpaved mountain roads, an SUV is more suitable) Hiking Duration: About 5 km round trip around the lake, allow 5 hours Elevation Gain: 4,400m to 4,800m (Altitude sickness warning ⚠️) 🥾【Hiking Tips】 1⃣️ Gear up properly: Windproof and waterproof jackets + non-slip hiking shoes are a must 2⃣️ Bring enough supplies: Mineral water + energy bars + chocolate are essential 3⃣️ Altitude sickness prevention: Take Rhodiola in advance and prepare an oxygen bottle 4⃣️ Weather alert: Plateau weather changes quickly, be ready for both sun protection and rain 💡Hidden Tip: The best time to shoot is before 10 a.m., when the lake surface is as calm as a mirror, perfectly reflecting the stunning snowy mountain scenery! "This pure land of Tibet will always move you to tears with its beauty" — this is my deepest feeling at Gurula Lake. Although altitude sickness is tough, when you see that intoxicating blue, it’s all worth it 😭

Guru La Tso, beautiful in the very moment I gazed upon it 🥹 Oh Creator, how could you create such a masterpiece! Can you believe I captured someone sitting on the tip of the heart from halfway up the mountain? And these are straight-out-of-camera photos 📸 The clear lake water shimmers with a jewel-blue light under the sun, while the distant snow-capped mountains quietly guard this hidden gem. Every shot is wallpaper-worthy! 📍Location: Cuomei County, Shannan City, Tibet | Guru La Tso (Heart Lake) Elevation: Approx. 4,850 m, deep in the Qialatuogang snow-capped mountains 🎫Admission: Free, only a CNY 15 parking/cleaning fee 🪪Documents: It is recommended to have a border permit ready, just in case 🚗Transportation & Route Navigation: Qiazha Village Committee, Cuomei County. After entering the village, there is about 20 km of unpaved mountain road with many cliffside curves—it really tests your driving skills! · Vehicle type: SUV preferred; sedans can drive slowly, but it gets slippery when raining · Lhasa day trip: Approx. 6 hours one way, 330 km total. Start early and return the same day; no need to stay at high altitude ✌️ · Relaxed 2-day version: Day 1: Lhasa to Cuomei County to acclimate to the altitude; Day 2: Depart early morning to hike Guru La Tso, then return after exploring 🥾Hiking & Photo Spots (Important!) The hiking trailhead is on the left side of the parking lot viewing bridge. Look for the stone arrow markers ⬆️ ✅Total round trip is about 4 km with a 400 m elevation gain; 1.5–2 hours one way 👉Hidden gem spot: Halfway mountain pass This is where you take the photo! No need to rush to the lakeshore; you can overlook the full heart outline from halfway up. Use a telephoto lens to capture someone sitting on the tip of the heart with the snow-capped mountains and blue lake as the background—straight-out-of-camera photos are legendary 🤩 👉Mountain top viewing platform: Best for aerial photography. You get the full heart shape—the drone perspective is amazing! 👉Mani piles by the lake: Great for close-ups of the water. The lake is a gradient of jewel blue, crystal clear, with rocks and mountain scenery complementing each other ⏰Best season: June–September, when the lake is bluest and the valley is full of alpine rhododendrons. November–April of the following year, heavy snow blocks the road; not recommended Golden hour for photos: 4:00 PM–6:00 PM, soft backlight, with the lake surface covered in shimmering golden spots ✨ 🎒Essentials 1. Altitude sickness: Rest in advance, avoid strenuous running or jumping; bring oxygen canisters and glucose 2. Gear: Trekking poles, non-slip hiking shoes, knee pads (descending on gravel is hard on the knees); sun hat, sunglasses, high-SPF sunscreen (UV rays are extremely strong on the plateau) 3. Supplies: Bring enough drinking water and high-calorie snacks (chocolate, beef jerky); there are very few shops along the way 4. Outfit: Plain-colored long dress/red shawl to create the perfect vibe with the blue lake and snow-capped mountains 💃 ⚠️Important reminders 1. Hike at high altitude according to your physical condition. If you feel unwell, descend immediately; do not push yourself 2. Dirt roads get muddy when it rains. Try to start early and avoid driving on mountain roads in the evening 3. This is an untouched wild lake. Practice Leave No Trace travel and take all your trash with you 4. Temperatures are low. Even in summer, bring a thick jacket as it is windy in the mountains

Overall, a five-star recommendation! The itinerary was perfectly paced, requiring no early mornings and avoiding a hectic pace. Being in the off-season, there was no way to change the tour dates; no matter how I adjusted them, the route was always reversed, starting at high altitude and gradually descending to lower altitudes, from Chamdo to Nagqu, and finally arriving in Nyingchi. (I also previously recommended a three-day trekking tour to Guru La Tso and Kula Kangri, which involved six days in high-altitude areas, making the return trip to Lhasa feel like a flat plain.) This reverse route was truly challenging. We were lucky with the weather throughout the trip, and the natural scenery at each attraction was absolutely stunning. One particularly attractive feature was the inclusion of aerial photography in the package, but unfortunately, the drone was barely used. I hope the travel agency can improve this service and not just mention it in the description. Namcha Barwa Peak: The hotel offered views of the snow-capped mountain. After dinner, a short hike uphill offered a chance to witness the sunrise over the golden peaks – a fantastic vantage point. Baipulanggou: A pristine, off-the-beaten-path high-altitude paradise (snow-capped mountains, grasslands, streams, and primeval forests abound). However, it's not very well-developed; the roads are terrible, even off-road vehicles struggle to access it, and we witnessed a vehicle get a flat tire halfway up. We ended up spending 300 yuan for a round trip by motorcycle, a two-hour journey. Although it was an optional excursion, seeing the scenery of the Second Pasture made it well worth the 300 yuan. The round trip is a 10-kilometer hike on difficult mountain paths; those with less stamina should mention they want to ride horses. It's a secluded paradise with few tourists and stunning scenery; those who love wild landscapes should definitely check it out. Sapu Sacred Mountain: The scenery is highly dependent on the weather. We came out of the inner lake and it started raining heavily. The scenery of the inner lake is breathtaking. If you can arrange to stay overnight at the inner lake, the experience will be unparalleled. Sacred Elephant Gate: The scenery is simply stunning, truly the essence of Namtso Lake. Unfortunately, due to road construction, it's impossible to get close to the attractions. A detour and transfer to a scenic area shuttle bus are required, a long one-way journey taking 7 hours on bumpy, dilapidated roads. The main point is, since we're already there, the experience should improve significantly once the roads are repaired. Finally, I must commend the driver. He worked incredibly hard, and whenever we encountered beautiful scenery, he would proactively stop to let us out for photos. I accidentally left my sunglasses at the Nagqu hotel, and he even went back to retrieve them for me – I'm incredibly grateful! 🙏 Overall, I give it a five-star recommendation! The itinerary was perfectly paced; no need to get up too early, and the days weren't hectic. Being in the off-season, there's nothing I can do; no matter how I adjust the tour dates, this tour always follows a reverse route, starting at high altitudes and gradually descending to lower altitudes, from Chamdo to Nagqu, and finally arriving in Nyingchi. However, it's not very well-developed; the roads are terrible, even off-road vehicles struggle to get up. I personally witnessed a vehicle get a flat tire halfway up. In the end, I spent 300 yuan to take a motorcycle ride round trip, which took two hours. Although it's an optional excursion, seeing the scenery of the Second Pasture in person makes the 300 yuan worthwhile. The round trip is a 10km hike on challenging mountain paths; those with lower stamina should mention horseback riding beforehand. It's a less-traveled, breathtakingly beautiful hidden gem – a must-see for those who love wilderness. Sapu Mountain: The scenery is highly dependent on the weather. It started raining heavily immediately after we finished exploring the inner lake. The lake's scenery is stunning; if you can arrange an overnight stay there, the experience will be unparalleled. Holy Elephant Gate: The scenery is undeniable, truly the essence of Namtso Lake. Unfortunately, road construction prevented close-up views; a detour and shuttle bus were required, a long and bumpy 7-hour journey. The crystal-clear lake is nestled among the mountains, The wind sweeps across the water, creating shimmering ripples. Snow-capped mountains stand silently, Preserving all the romance of the wilderness, Only when you see it with your own eyes do you understand what a hidden paradise on earth is. - 📍Shannan · Gurula Tso

🌊 Nestled in the embrace of snow-capped mountains at an altitude of 4,800 meters, there's a heart-shaped lake with a blue so surreal it's hard to believe. 💨 The wind blows in from the Qialatuogang Snow Mountain, and the lake water is so blue it looks like paint was poured directly into it—a shade of blue that your phone camera can't even capture a tenth of. 📍 This place is called Guru La Tso, also known as Heart Lake or the Soul Lake of Padmasambhava. 💰 First, let's talk about money: 🆓 No admission fee. It's an untouched, wild lake with no tourist facilities. 🚙 There's just a cleaning fee of CNY 15 per vehicle. The driver can pay it for everyone; visitors don't need to pay individually. 🚗 Transportation is the biggest trap: 🛣️ It's over 300 km one way from Lhasa, a 6–7 hour drive. 🛤️ The first part is paved and accessible by any car, but the last 30 km is all gravel mountain roads full of potholes, U-turns, and narrow cliffside paths. If you take a sedan, you'll ruin your undercarriage. 🚙 You must have an SUV or a rugged off-road vehicle. If you're not a confident driver, just hire a car—don't push it. 📍 Search for "Cuomei County Qiazha Village Committee" in your navigation app; once you arrive, that's the starting point for the hike. 📵 Also, there's no signal in the mountains, so download offline maps in advance. 📅 How to plan your itinerary: ⛔ Definitely don't try to do a round trip in one day—leaving at 5:00 AM and returning at 11:00 PM is exhausting and increases the risk of altitude sickness. ✅ It's better to plan a two-day trip: Day 1, depart from Lhasa, stop by Yamdrok Lake, and stay in Cuomei County (altitude 4,100 meters, to acclimatize for one night); Day 2, leave the county early in the morning and arrive at Qiazha Village in 1.5 hours. ☀️ The light is best around 10:00 AM at the lake, when the snow-capped mountains are gilded and the lake's reflection is clearest. 🥾 Hiking difficulty: ⛰️ The parking lot is at an altitude of 4,400 meters, and the hike to the lake is at 4,880 meters, taking 1.5–2 hours one way. 🚶 The entire trail is gravel and dirt with a gentle slope and no steep steps, so it's suitable for beginners. 📸 If you want to take panoramic photos, climb the small hill on the west side to get a full view of the heart shape. ⏰ Spending 1.5–2 hours at the lake is enough. Don't stay too long, as the high altitude, strong winds, and large temperature differences can be tough. 👕 What to wear and bring: 🌡️ The plateau experiences four seasons in one day, so a shell jacket + fleece liner + quick-dry base layer is the standard setup. 🕶️ Sunglasses, a sun hat, and non-slip hiking boots are the essential trio. 🎒 Gear: Oxygen canisters, glucose, sunscreen, and lip balm are all must-haves. 🦯 Hiking poles are highly recommended; they are very useful for protecting your knees and preventing slips on the gravel road. ☕ Bring a thermos with hot water; it gets freezing cold by the lake. 🍞 There are no shops along the way, so bring enough food and water yourself. 🏠 Where to stay: 🏨 The best choice is a hotel in Cuomei County, which has complete facilities, dining options, and a manageable altitude. ⭐ Anhui Hotel is recommended and has oxygen supply. 🌅 If you want to photograph the sunrise, stay at a homestay in Qiazha Village, which is closest to the hiking starting point, though the conditions are basic. ⚠️ Rooms are limited during peak season, so book in advance. 🚨 Final tips: 🚶‍♂️ Don't run or jump; walk slowly to prevent altitude sickness. 🌬️ It gets windy and the weather changes easily in the afternoon, so finish your visit in the morning and leave early. 🌍 Travel responsibly and leave no trace; take your trash with you.

🏔️ Just returned from Shannan, and my first thought is: this place is perfect for escaping the city in August! In August, the sky in Shannan is unbelievably blue, and the snow-capped mountains, grasslands, lakes, and temples are distinct under the sunlight. Compared to other popular areas in Tibet, Shannan is less crowded, retaining more of its original quiet and sense of sanctity. The biggest takeaway from this trip is that Shannan is not a place for "quick check-ins," but a place that needs to be explored slowly. Waking up to snow-capped mountains in the morning, sitting by the lake in the afternoon, and watching the sunset fall on the temples in the evening—that sense of healing is truly irreplaceable✨. If you enjoy natural scenery, cultural history, and off-the-beaten-path travel, Shannan in August is definitely worth a visit. 💰 Actual costs | 3 days, 2 nights relaxed itinerary 🏨 Accommodation: Economy: Standard hotels in downtown Shannan are about 180–300 CNY/night, clean and convenient. Comfort: Hotels with better environments and unique homestays are about 350–600 CNY/night. High-end: Unique accommodations near scenic spots are 700 CNY or more, suitable for an in-depth experience. Budget for two nights is about 400–1,200 CNY. 🍜 Dining: Dining prices in Tibet are relatively high. Breakfast is about 20–40 CNY, and main meals are 50–100 CNY per person. Avoid wild animals and wild fish; just enjoy regular local dining. Budget for three days of dining is about 400–600 CNY. 🚗 Transportation: External: Transportation from Lhasa to Shannan is convenient; self-driving or chartering a car offers a better experience. Internal: Attractions are far apart, so self-driving or chartering a car is recommended. Frequent use of public transportation is not recommended for tight schedules. Transportation budget is about 500–1,200 CNY. 🎫 Attraction tickets: Some temples and scenic spots require tickets, totaling about 100–300 CNY. 🛍️ Others: Oxygen, sunscreen, drinks, and souvenirs are about 200 CNY. ✨ Total cost: Standard itinerary is about 1,800–2,500 CNY per person. If you choose to charter a car or upgrade your accommodation, it will be about 3,000 CNY per person for a more comfortable experience. 🌟 Recommended attractions | You'll regret missing these 🏔️ Yamdrok Lake A must-visit in Shannan. The color of Yamdrok Lake in August is especially beautiful; the blue-green lake surface looks like a gemstone, and standing on the viewing platform is truly breathtaking. It is recommended to go in the morning or evening when the light is softer📸. 🏯 Samye Monastery One of the first Buddhist monasteries in Tibet. It is not only architecturally beautiful, but more importantly, it has a rich historical atmosphere. Strolling through the monastery slowly is more meaningful than taking quick photos. 🌊 Lhamo La-tso A very mysterious plateau lake. The mountain roads, grasslands, and changing clouds along the way are all worth it. When the weather is good, the reflection on the lake is dreamlike. 🌿 Zhegu Grassland The grassland is at its best in August. Cattle, sheep, snow-capped mountains, and blue skies form a natural painting, making it perfect for a stop while self-driving. 🏛️ Yungbulakang Palace A representative of Shannan's history and culture. Climbing to the top, you can overlook the Yarlung Valley, and the view is stunning. ⚠️ Things to avoid | Personal experience ❌ "Instagrammable" spots where you only stay for a few minutes Many places in Shannan are beautiful on the road; don't just rush for photos. ❌ Overly packed itineraries The pace in plateau areas is slow, and rushing is tiring. ❌ Long exposure to the sun at noon UV rays are strong in August, and it's easy to get sunburned. ❌ Finding cheap car charters last minute Safety on the plateau is more important than saving money. ❌ Entering the mountains without checking the weather Mountain weather changes quickly, so preparation is needed. 🗺️ Perfect 3-day itinerary | Just the right amount of time 🌞 Day 1: Arrive in Shannan > Yungbulakang Palace > Samye Monastery Arrive in the morning and adjust. Head to Yungbulakang Palace in the afternoon to overlook the Yarlung Valley. Then, visit Samye Monastery to experience Tibetan history. Return to the city in the evening to rest. 🏔️ Day 2: Yamdrok Lake > Grassland scenery Depart for Yamdrok Lake in the morning. Enjoy the plateau highway scenery along the way. Have a simple lunch nearby. Spend the afternoon at the surrounding grasslands to see snow-capped mountains and lakes. Return in the evening. 🌊 Day 3: Lhamo La-tso > Return Head to Lhamo La-tso in the morning. Enjoy the plateau scenery along the way. Return in the afternoon. This route is not too rushed and allows you to truly feel the beauty of Shannan. 🍜 Top 5 food recommendations 🥇 Tibetan yak meat Choose a reputable restaurant; the meat is firm and good for replenishing energy. 🥈 Butter tea You might not be used to it the first time, but it's great for plateau travel. 🥉 Tibetan noodles Simple but very local, suitable for breakfast. ⭐ Tsampa Traditional Tibetan food, worth a try. ⭐ Sweet tea Easier to accept than butter tea, very comfortable during the trip. ❌ Not recommended: Overpriced set meals specifically for tourists; it is recommended to choose restaurants with many locals. 💡 Tips to avoid pitfalls ☀️ Gear: ✔ Sunscreen ✔ Sunglasses ✔ Sun hat ✔ Windbreaker ✔ Thermos ✔ Comfortable shoes It is warm during the day in August, but still cold in the morning and evening. 🎫 Tickets: Check the opening hours of temples and scenic spots in advance. 🏨 Accommodation: If it's your first time, it is recommended to stay in downtown Shannan for convenient dining and transportation. For in-depth travel, you can choose to stay near scenic spots. 🌅 Avoid crowds: Go to scenic spots early in the morning for a better experience with fewer people. 🏡 Accommodation recommendations 🌱 Economy: Hotels in downtown Shannan, suitable for budget travel. 🌿 Comfort: Unique homestays, suitable for experiencing the local atmosphere. ✨ High-end: Boutique accommodations near scenic spots, suitable for slow travel. 📸 Recommended photo spots 📍 Yamdrok Lake viewing platform: Lakes, snow-capped mountains, and sky in one frame—a classic spot. 📍 Top of Yungbulakang Palace: For panoramic views of the valley, very stunning. 📍 Samye Monastery complex: Suitable for cultural photography. 📍 Zhegu Grassland: Standing in the middle of the grassland gives a great sense of space. 📍 Hidden spots: Bends in the plateau highway, empty grassy slopes, and small paths by the lake are often more photogenic than popular spots. 🌈 August trivia | Who is this for? Is it worth coming back? 💚 Suitable for: People who like natural scenery, plateau travel, and cultural exploration. 👣 Reflections on the "hardship": The biggest challenge in Shannan is not the scenery, but the plateau environment. You might feel slightly tired at first, so don't make your itinerary too aggressive. But the moment you see the snow-capped mountains, lakes, and clouds, you will feel it's all worth it. Next time I come, I want to stay longer. No rushing, just staying for a few days, waking up to watch the sunrise, and watching the starry sky at night. Because what truly attracts people to Shannan is that peace and awe after getting away from the hustle and bustle🏔️✨.

The lake surface reflects light strongly, and UV levels are extremely high. Sunglasses, hats, and sunscreen are mandatory. 4. Temperature difference between day and night is 15°C+. Even in summer, bring a thick jacket. It gets very cold after sunset. 5. Do not step into unnamed wild salt pools; some are soft salt marshes where you can easily get stuck. 6. The scenic area is windy and dry. Be sure to bring lip balm and moisturizing skincare products. 7. Rooms are in high demand during peak season. Book on Trip.com 2–3 days in advance to avoid price hikes or no availability.

Tibet is hiding a blue heart-shaped lake 💙—Guru La Tso is breathtaking! I've seen plenty of blue lakes in Tibet, but when I first saw photos of Guru La Tso, I was instantly hooked! 🥹 It's hidden deep within the snow-capped mountains of Cuomei County, Shannan, at an altitude of nearly 4,800 meters. From above, it looks like a natural heart 💙. What makes it so special is that the water comes from glacial melt, creating a pure, deep, gem-like blue that shines even on cloudy days. Few crowds, pristine, surrounded by snow-capped mountains, and topped off with a blue heart... this is the kind of romance only Tibet can offer! 🏔️✨ Where is Guru La Tso? It's located near Qiazha Village, Naixi Township, Cuomei County, Shannan, Tibet, hidden deep in the Qialatuogang snow-capped mountains. You can search for "Guru La Tso" or "Qiazha Village" on your navigation app. There is currently no traditional admission ticket, but the parking lot usually charges a cleaning fee of about CNY 15 per vehicle; please check local conditions for the latest information. 🚙 How to get there from Lhasa? It's about 300–320 km one way from Lhasa, taking about 5–7 hours by car. Don't let the distance fool you—the last few dozen kilometers are the real challenge ⚠️! You'll encounter dirt roads, gravel, potholes, and winding mountain roads, which are even tougher in the rain. ✅ SUVs/off-road vehicles are best. ❌ Low-clearance sedans are not recommended. ✅ If you don't have experience driving on rough roads, we recommend chartering a car or carpooling. Some mountain areas have no cell signal, so remember to download offline maps in advance! 🥾 How difficult is the hike? This isn't a spot you can just see from your car! The parking lot is at an altitude of about 4,400 meters, and you'll need to hike up to the pass at nearly 4,900 meters to see the classic panoramic view of the heart-shaped lake. It's about 2–2.5 km one way with a total elevation gain of nearly 500 meters, usually taking 3–4 hours round trip. The route is roughly: Parking lot > shrub/gravel slope > alpine meadow > pass > lakeside 📷 The best photo spot is the pass! Standing up high, you can capture the entire blue heart and the snow-capped mountains together—it's truly stunning 💙 However, hiking at nearly 5,000 meters is no joke. Do not run or rush; take your time and walk at your own pace. 🌿 When is the best time to visit? We recommend June–October. 🌸 June: Alpine rhododendrons 🌼 July–August: Green meadows and blooming wildflowers 🍂 September–October: Atmospheric autumn colors on the plateau From November through March, snow, ice, and road closures are common, so we don't recommend heading into the mountains during this time. 🗺️ A 2-day, 1-night itinerary is the most comfortable Day 1: Lhasa > Yamdrok Lake > Stay in Cuomei County Day 2: Cuomei County > Qiazha Village > Guru La Tso > Hike to see the heart-shaped lake Try to start your hike in the morning! The weather in plateau mountain areas can change quickly in the afternoon, so it's safer to head up early and return early. 🎒 Remember to pack these essentials! Windbreaker, fleece/light down jacket, high-top non-slip hiking boots, trekking poles, sunglasses, sunscreen, hat, oxygen, thermos, water, and high-calorie snacks. Trekking poles are especially important! They are very helpful when descending the gravel slopes. ⚠️ Important notes before you go The mountain roads may have time-based traffic restrictions that change frequently, so don't rely solely on online guides—ask local drivers or your accommodation host in advance. The altitude here reaches nearly 4,900 meters; if you experience severe altitude sickness, do not push yourself. Supplies are limited in the mountains, some areas have no cell signal, and you should avoid entering the mountains alone. Guru La Tso is considered a holy lake by the locals 🙏; please do not step on Mani piles, throw anything into the lake, or leave any trash behind. If you've already visited Yamdrok Lake and Namtso but are still looking for a more pristine, off-the-beaten-path blue lake in Tibet... You should definitely save Guru La Tso 💙 To see this blue heart hidden deep in the snow-capped mountains, you'll endure a few hours of driving and a climb of several hundred meters—but the moment it appears before your eyes, you'll likely feel that the bumpy journey was worth it. 🏔️

#adventuretrips Back at it again with another epic adventuretrip—my second visit to Gurula Lake and honestly, this place just keeps leveling up! The water is SO impossibly blue it almost glows IRL. No filter needed, trust me—the vibe is pure magic. This time around, trekking up was wayyy easier than it was two years ago. Maybe I’m just in better hiking shape, or maybe I was just too hyped to notice the climb . Either way, totally worth it! The biggest glow-up? Spotted the most EXTRA mushroom I’ve ever seen literally huge! Plus, it was my first time ever picking up a golden mushroom out here. Nature’s got those secret bonus levels, wow. Totally recommend adding Gurula Lake to your bucket list for a chill but unique holiday. Pro-tip: The best time to visit is May–September when the paths are clear and the weather is peak . Plan your trip with trip.com to lock in the best nearby stays and transport combos! Gurula Lake Address: [Add your actual address here if known, or region, e.g., Gurula Valley, [Region/Country]] Opening Hours: 24/7 (nature never sleeps, and sunrise hits different at the top! ) Ready to go again soon—I could never get tired of these vibes. #scenery #lake #adventure #mountainlake

Don’t just visit Axilisi Ertaipo and Jiucaiping~ Discovered a Guizhou version of Gurula Love Lake on the Axilisi grassland!! The love lake looks more complete from the left side than the right~ Driving to the mountaintop for an aerial shot is truly stunning!!! · Location: Xiaohai Village, Axilisi, Bijie, Guizhou Outfit suggestion: red tones · Photo spots: ▪️Panoramic aerial shot from the mountaintop ▪️Mid-mountain shot with people inside the heart-shaped lake ▪️Close-up by the heart-shaped lake with blue-green water

In Tibetan, the black-necked crane is called "chong chong" — a unique auspicious messenger of the plateau, a national first-class protected animal, and the only crane species in the world that breeds and migrates on the plateau. In recent years, with the implementation of wetland protection and ecological policies in Tibet, their habitat has been increasingly optimized. During the peak wintering season, more than 2,000 cranes can be seen at places like Hutoushan Reservoir and Kazi Reservoir. At sunrise, the sight of cranes flying over the fields under the glow of dawn is especially soothing. From mid to late March until their northward migration in April, farming has already begun in Linzhou, coinciding with the barley sowing festival, where spectacular scenes of cranes circling and dancing are often seen. Around the Milin wetlands, some black-necked cranes migrate to Milin to winter starting in November and leave completely by April of the following year. The black-necked cranes framed by snowy mountains, valleys, and rivers resemble a painting. Heading to the swamps of Nima County or the wetlands of Shenza County, cranes begin breeding in May, offering a chance to see fluffy crane chicks; November marks the arrival of the wintering crane flocks. Along the shore of Zhegu Lake in Cuomei County, Shannan, heartwarming scenes of black-necked cranes nesting and raising their young in pairs are commonly seen.

No filters. No editing. Just a heart-shaped lake deep within Shannan, Tibet, that is so blue it leaves you speechless. Viewed from above, the lake naturally takes the shape of a heart, earning it the nickname "Heart of the Earth." Sitting at an elevation of 4,900 meters, this alpine snowmelt lake gleams with a breathtaking azure hue under the sunlight. Surrounded by snow-capped peaks, the summer hillsides bloom with alpine rhododendrons, weaving blue, white, and pink into a picture-perfect landscape. Locals say that if you pray with true devotion, you can see your past and present lives reflected in the water. 📍How to get there: Driving yourself or hiring a private car is the only way. It takes about 5-6 hours from Lhasa. Navigate to "Cuomei County Qiaza Village Committee". A high-clearance SUV is essential, as the final stretch is a winding, gravel mountain road. After parking, you'll need to hike 2.5 kilometers, climbing from 4,400 to 4,900 meters in elevation. The hike takes about 2 hours one way. 📸Best photo spots: Use a drone for the full heart shape; shoot from the lakeside hillside for snow-capped mountain reflections; frame the prayer flags and Mani stones with the lake in the background. 💡Tips: The best time to visit is from June to October. Bring oxygen canisters and glucose. Dress in layers, as it gets extremely windy and cold by the lake. The ecosystem here is fragile, so please take all your trash with you. Overcoming rugged mountains and battling altitude sickness—all just to see this heart hidden in the clouds. Short of breath, but totally worth it. 💙🌊

🏔️ Changzhu Monastery Tibet’s first Buddhist hall, full of history The moment you step inside, a deep calm washes over you Highlights The monastery’s treasure, the pearl thangka, is stunning—made entirely of pearls and colorful gemstones, sparkling under the light. You’ll want to stand there for a long time without moving. There’s also a Shakyamuni Buddha embroidered by Princess Wencheng herself. Even after more than a thousand years, the colors remain vivid—it really gives you goosebumps😭 The main hall has a peaceful atmosphere. The scent of butter lamps mixed with Tibetan incense fills the air. The monks chanting sound like they’re coming from far away. Sit for a while and you’ll lose track of time. How to enjoy It’s a 10-minute drive from Shannan city center. Mornings are less crowded, and the sunlight hits the golden roof just right. No need to rush—walk clockwise around the prayer wheels three times for a comforting feeling. The white walls and red eaves outside the temple make a great backdrop for photos. What to eat Across the street is a Tibetan restaurant. A pot of sweet tea costs just a few yuan, perfect with tsampa. The yak meat buns have thin dough and plenty of filling—dip them in chili sauce for an amazing taste. Tips No photos inside the hall. Put your phone on silent and just soak in the quiet. Tickets cost 40 yuan, well worth it. 💧 Lamula Lake A sacred lake hidden in a valley at 5,000 meters elevation They say those with fate can see their past and future lives here Highlights Climb to the 5,300-meter viewing platform. The wind howls and prayer flags flap. At that moment, you really feel like you’re standing in the sky. The lake isn’t large, but its color changes—from deep blue to emerald green. Staring at the water clears your mind of all distractions. I didn’t see any special visions, but the vast loneliness of the place is addictive. Surrounded by snowy mountains, it’s so quiet you only hear your heartbeat. How to enjoy It’s a two-hour drive on winding mountain roads from Gacha County. The road is twisty but in decent condition. After parking, you’ll hike for half an hour. Take it slow at high altitude and rest if you get out of breath. The wind at the top is strong enough to push you off balance. Bring a windbreaker and secure your hat. Tips Don’t shout. This is a sacred lake to the locals, so respect is key. If your stamina is average, bring an oxygen tank—don’t push yourself too hard. Tickets cost 50 yuan. Whether the half-hour hike is worth it, you’ll know once you’re there. 🌊 Nariyong Lake Like a sapphire dropped onto the wilderness So beautiful it feels unreal Highlights The first sight leaves you speechless. The water is an unreal shade of blue, surrounded by dry yellow meadows and distant snowy peaks. The contrast is so sharp it feels like stepping into a movie scene. There are almost no people. We stayed nearly two hours, and besides yaks and birds, it was just us. How to enjoy It’s a one-hour drive from Cuomei County. The road is rough, so an SUV is recommended. What to eat Bring some snacks; there are no restaurants nearby. Tips At 4,600 meters elevation, the UV rays are intense. Sunglasses and sunscreen are must-haves. Which of these places excites you the most? Grab your friends and set off soon~✨

✅ Hello everyone, starting with this episode, I will share my previous self-drive guide from Guangzhou to Tibet. Last year, I drove over 20,000 km in Tibet, only missing a few border valleys. The college entrance exam is over, and summer vacation is coming soon. It’s a great time for a self-drive trip from Guangzhou to Tibet. ✅ This episode starts with the Shannan route. Later, I will share self-drive guides for the Himalaya border, Ali grand loop, G216 Gaize → Minfeng, eastern Tibet, and the Everest route. ✅ Among the many self-drive routes in Tibet, the Shannan route is quite unfamiliar. Most tourists only know the Ali grand loop, which shows a lack of understanding of Tibet. In terms of natural scenery, Shannan definitely surpasses the Ali route and offers a better self-drive experience. ✅ Starting from Lhasa, driving to Cuona, you’ll see rivers, deserts, earth forests, snow mountains, sea buckthorn forests, lakes, and vast grasslands. Of course, there are also cultural sites like Yongbulakang, the Tibetan king’s tomb, and Kajiu Monastery, which I’ve shared in previous notes. ✅ This time, I’m sharing a little-known lake on the way—Gecuo. Few have heard of it, and there are no online guides about it. Gecuo’s beauty is different from other lakes. It has grasslands, and its colors change with the seasons. To me, Gecuo is a lake with rich layers of color. . 🚗【Self-drive guide】 1⃣️ From Shannan to Cuona, just follow the Qiongcuo route. Avoid the blue route as it has narrow roads. 2⃣️ Gecuo is halfway along the way, next to the Zhegu grassland. 3⃣️ Zhegu Lake looks like a large lake on the map, but it has actually dried up. 4⃣️ You need to check your border pass before entering Cuona. 5⃣️ Along the Qiongcuo route, only Cuona has accommodation options. Of course, sleeping in a camper van is more convenient. 6⃣️ Except for the 4,800 m pass, the altitude elsewhere is similar to Yamdrok Lake. . ❤️【Tips】 1⃣️ Prepare your border pass in advance. It’s easier to get now. 2⃣️ Starting from Shannan city, you’ll pass four major attractions: Yongbulakang, the Tibetan king’s tomb, Gecuo, and Narirongcuo. You can explore them in 1 or 2 days. 3⃣️ It’s recommended to acclimate to the high altitude in Lhasa or Shannan city before setting off. . 🚗【Self-drive itinerary】 D1: Lhasa → Samye → Shannan → Changzhu D2: Menzhonggang → Qiongjie → Zhegu → Cuona D3: Cuona → Quzhuomu → Cuomei → Lakang D4: Shengge → Sexiang → Cuoyu D5: Cuoyu village → Baimalin Lake → Cuoyu D6: Cuoyu → Jiejiu Lake → Cuoyu D7: Cuoyu → Zhegong three lakes → Cuoyu D8: Cuoyu village → Luozha → Pucuo north route → Dalong D9: Dalong → Pucuo lake loop → Dalong D10: Dalong → Yamdrok south route → Lunbu snow village D11: Lunbu snow village → Yamdrok north route → Lhasa . ⚠️ For more travel guides on Yunnan, Tibet, and western Sichuan, 👉 save to homepage!

✅ This route is my Tibet Shannan grand loop. This is day 3 of the trip, after visiting Gecuo, Nariyongcuo, and Cuona along the way. ✅ Especially the Cuona loop along the border, descending from alpine grasslands to dense primeval forests, then climbing mountains again. The canyon landscape and waterfalls make the scenery picturesque all along the way 👍. ✅ Before leaving Cuona, we head toward Cuomei. On the way to Cuomei, the must-see is the sea buckthorn forest here, where you can witness what millennium-old sea buckthorn trees look like. ✅ There is no commercialization here, very few tourists, and few guides introducing this place. When I visited, I just happened to meet some cultural tourism staff, so there were more people. They said there might be an admission ticket 🎫 in the future. ✅ The sea buckthorn trees here are over a thousand years old, some reaching several thousand years. The tallest sea buckthorn tree is 15 meters high, and some trunks are 4.5 meters wide. You can check out the photos I took. . ⏰【Suggested visit time】 Recommended visit time is 2 hours. The altitude here is 4,300 meters. For overnight stays, you can choose to go to Lakang town, which is only 3,100 meters above sea level. . ❤️【Tips】 1⃣️ The scenic area has free admission. You can enter directly by passing through the house. 2⃣️ There is a parking lot. Parking is free. 🅿️ There are about 30 parking spaces. 3⃣️ The restroom is right next to the parking lot. 4⃣️ The sea buckthorn forest inside is very large. Follow the boardwalk and you can spend the whole day here. 5⃣️ If you visit during snowy weather, the sea buckthorn forest looks like an ink painting. 6⃣️ When I went in October, there was no snow ❄️, only hail 🧊. 7⃣️ There are no commercial facilities here, no convenience stores, and no restaurants 🍴. . 🚗【11-day Shannan loop, day 3 itinerary】 Day 3: Cuona → Quzhuomu → Cuomei → Lakang Note: The above route is for reference only! . ⚠️ For more self-drive routes and travel guides in Yunnan, Tibet, western Sichuan, and Guangdong, save the homepage!

From the breathtaking Sapu Snow Mountain to the iconic Sacred Elephant Gate at Namtso, this trip was packed with unforgettable landscapes. I also visited the stunning Gurla Tso, hiked from 4,451 m to 4,862 m with surprisingly little effort, and crossed the famous bumpy road to Sacred Elephant Gate - equivalent to climbing 270 floors! I explored the beautiful Zhegu Grassland, where an incredible rainbow appeared after the rain, and even searched for Tibetan brown bears near Baiga Township (no luck this time!). Despite traveling during Tibet's rainy season and flying through Chengdu's thunderstorms, everything worked out perfectly. ℹ️ Good to know: Foreign travelers need a Tibet Travel Permit in addition to a Chinese visa. The permit must be arranged through a registered Tibet travel agency before entering Tibet. An epic adventure filled with mountains, high-altitude lakes, and some of the best scenery I've ever photographed.

"Are you sure this is the right way?" I asked the navigation for the third time. The blue arrow on my phone screen was slowly moving along a nameless thin line, flanked by barren dirt hills, with zero signal bars ahead. Then, after the last turn, Baimalin Lake suddenly appeared in my view without any warning. Across the lake, the snow-capped main peak of Kula Gangri dazzled white under the July noon sun. This article won’t cover the usual tourist spots but focuses on the most hardcore lake + hiking routes in Shannan. ⛰️ Kula Gangri · Baimalin Lake Route Difficulty: ★★★☆☆ (Add one star for altitude sickness) Round trip: 11 km / about 6 hours Altitude: 4500m-5100m The starting point is in Se Township, Luozha County, about a 6-7 hour drive from Zedang. July is the best window—snow line recedes, lakeside meadows turn fully green, but mountain snow remains, creating distinct photo layers. ⚠️ No cell signal throughout. Download the track file on the "Liangbulou" app in advance; don’t rely on intuition. Must bring: glucose oral solution, headache powder, thermos with hot water, high-calorie snacks. When I reached the 4900m pass, the wind was so strong it almost blew me back to the start, but looking back at Baimalin Lake’s blue-green water nestled at the foot of the snowy mountains—I decided my legs could keep going. 🏔️ Pumo Yongcuo Altitude 5010m, higher than Namtso, with blue ice in winter, but July has its own charm. You can stay overnight in herders’ tents on the lakeside meadow (just pay), and at dusk, the light from the west turns the entire lake surface into flowing liquid metal. About 1.5 hours’ drive from Langkazi County. Almost no tourists here, just the wind and you. I posted a photo set from here on social media and was asked twenty times, "Is this Iceland?" No, this is Shannan. I just cleared my phone album and found last year’s cat food ads mixed in—so random. 🏔️ Nari Yongcuo Towards Cuomei County, even less visited than the previous two. The lake color changes with the weather—deep hidden blue on cloudy days, peacock green on sunny days. I caught a half-cloudy, half-sunny afternoon with the two colors alternating, like the lake was changing clothes. Road conditions are much better than to Kula Gangri, but the last 10 km is still dirt road. It’s recommended to stay a night in Cuomei County to acclimate; altitude is 4200m, just right. 🏔️ Lebu Valley From Cuona City heading south, you cross the Himalayas and the altitude drops directly from 4500m to 2800m. Yes, you read that right. July in Lebu Valley is a completely different world—primeval forest, streams and waterfalls, endless greenery, and a felt temperature just over 20°C. This is a Menba ethnic area, with lifestyle completely different from Tibetans—food, clothing, architecture all follow another system. ⚠️ Border pass required for Cuona direction, get it in advance. 🏔️ Zhegu Grassland On the road from Cuomei to Qiongjie, July is just the time when the grass is at its lushest. No real "scenic spots," just endless alpine meadows, occasionally with herders riding horses. But it’s this "nothingness" that makes you feel you came to the right place. Every snapshot taken while driving by could be a wallpaper. ❗ Hardcore Info Summary 🚗 These routes require chartered cars or self-driving; no public transport available 🪪 Border pass must specify: Luozha County, Cuona City, Langkazi County ⛽ Few gas stations along the way; fill up whenever you see one 📱 Most of the route has no signal; download offline maps in advance 🏥 Start altitude sickness medication a week early; too late to start after arrival 💰 7-day deep trip costs about 5000-7000 RMB per person (including car charter) Accommodation 🏨 Pingcuo Kangsang · Qiangjilinka Wild Luxury Villa Resort A standalone wild luxury villa on the edge of Qiongjie Grassland, with continuous snow mountains and pastures right outside the window. No light pollution at night, so you can see the Milky Way arch with the naked eye. Experiencing underfloor heating and latex mattresses at 4000m altitude is an amazing contrast. 🏨 Hilton Hampton by Shannan The most reliable choice in Zedang, oxygen rooms are a lifesaver after hiking Kula Gangri. Yarlung Tsangpo River view rooms for sunset, and international brand bedding standards are crucial on the plateau. 🏨 Shannan Zedang Hotel A classic state guesthouse renovated for 320 million RMB, with unique garden design at high altitude. Walking in the courtyard shaded by ancient cypress trees relieves hiking fatigue. Spa and indoor pool are luxury on the plateau. 🏨 Shannan Yalong River Hotel Close to Zedang bus station and by the Yalong River, convenient for early departures. Facilities aren’t top-tier but clean and tidy, making it a reliable base camp for multi-day trips.

Traveling is a journey that cultivates our vision, allowing us not only to behold earthly landscapes but also to glimpse the universe's true face deep in the night sky through a telescope, reaping a profound sense of awe and healing that strikes right to the soul. Most of the time, our perception of the night sky is limited by the shallow scope of the naked eye. We often assume the night is monotonous and the stars are sparse, unaware of the endless brilliance and mystery hidden behind the pitch-black canopy. When midnight falls on our journey and the surroundings return to tranquility, pointing a telescope at the night sky completely overturns our preconceived notions. As we fine-tune the focus, the starlight grows brighter and the star clusters become clearer. The once-empty canopy is instantly packed with sparkling stars, revealing breathtaking depth and majestic grandeur. Gazing alone at this magnified night sky, far away from worldly comparisons, conflicts, hustle, and chaos, our soul finds an unprecedented sense of peace and relaxation. Staring out at the vast, boundless Milky Way, we suddenly realize that life's trivial matters are not worth dwelling on, and temporary gains or losses aren't worth obsessing over. All mental friction feels entirely unnecessary. It allows us to calm our minds, broaden our horizons, and live with clarity and a transparent heart throughout our journey.
