📍 Chunyang Hotel, Ding’An, Hainan. Nice and pleasant experience at this hotel in Ding’An! The location is very convenient and the breakfast is great. The hotel has two restaurants. They have a huge variety of dishes. The food is absolutely amazing, a bit pricey but delicious. I definitely recommend this place for foreigners and locals. . . . #fallingforfall #hainan #hainanisland #dingan #tripblazers #travelinspiration #tripmoments #triplocal #tripaway #hotelstay #china #chinalife

After strolling through Coconut Dream Corridor to watch the sunset, you must come to this old-school Hainan food stall. It's not a tourist trap, but an authentic spot where locals come specifically to eat. The taste is absolutely amazing! You have to try the signature vanilla duck 🦆. The duck is slow-cooked until it's incredibly flavorful, tender, and not dry at all. The sauce is perfectly savory, not overly salty. Once you've eaten most of the duck, be sure to add a serving of instant noodles. The noodles soak up the rich vanilla broth, coating every bite with aroma. It's so delicious you won't be able to stop—this is the soul of the whole dish! The Ding'an farmhouse braised pork trotter pot is also stunning. It's not greasy at all; the trotters are stewed until they're bouncy, soft, and sticky. The braised flavor seeps into the meat, making it tender with just the right amount of chew. It was polished off shortly after being served. The scrambled eggs with yellow chives and shrimp are perfect with rice 🍳. The eggs are soft and fluffy, paired with sweet, fresh shrimp for a rich texture. It's amazing with rice. After your meal, don't forget to order the durian stir-fried ice for dessert! You can watch the process on-site. Every bite is packed with real durian pulp, retaining the fruit's natural sweetness without added sugar. Having a cold, refreshing bite after dinner instantly cuts through the grease and brings pure happiness 😌. Overall, it has a down-to-earth, bustling food stall atmosphere. The dishes are all authentic Hainan specialties. If you're visiting Sanya and want to eat authentic flavors, you can't go wrong with this place. 🏠 Laopo Vanilla Duck • Old Hainan Food Stall

It's not too cold or too hot, and the sun isn't harsh. It's truly the best time of year to head out and wander around 🍃 If you don't want to travel far, avoid crowded tourist spots, and just want to find a quiet town to sleep in until you wake up naturally, eat local food, and watch the sunset, I've got you covered. Today, I've compiled 4 hidden gem towns around Haikou that I've been keeping to myself. The focus is on "no leg-work, no rushing, and just chilling out" 👇 🚗 Chengmai Qiaotou Town | Volcanic rock coast and century-old fishing port 📍How to get there: Drive west along the Round-the-Island Tourist Highway; you'll arrive in about an hour. 🍜What to eat: Besides the famous sweet Qiaotou sweet potatoes, the real highlight is the Xinxing Port fish market at 5:30 PM. The sunset dyes the entire bay a warm gold, and after the fishing boats return to shore, the freshly caught golden pompano are brought directly to the pier to be sold. Find a nearby food stall to have it cooked for you—you won't find that level of freshness anywhere else. 📸Photo spot: Head to Daolunjiao to see the ancient volcanic rocks. At low tide, Leigong Island becomes a peninsula, and the ground is covered in gray-black and reddish volcanic lava. It's like walking into an open-air volcanic geological museum; every photo you take will be stunning. 🏠Where to stay: The town has several unique Hainan "bronze-rated" homestays, as well as hot spring resort hotels. Prices range from budget-friendly to comfortable, so just pick one that catches your eye. ⚠️Avoid pitfalls: The volcanic rocks are quite sharp, so I recommend wearing non-slip sneakers or water shoes; don't wear thin-soled sandals. If you want to go sea-foraging, check the low tide times in advance. 🚗 Lingao Dongying Town | Pristine sea-foraging and slow-city sunsets 📍How to get there: It's about 70 km from Haikou, and it's very convenient to drive there yourself. 🍜What to eat: Prices in Lingao are relatively friendly, and the seafood scene is vibrant. Most seaside homestays in the Bozhong Village area can help you cook whatever you catch while sea-foraging, and seafood breakfast is also a major local specialty. 📸Photo spot: Sunset Beach is Lingao's signature spot. In the evening, the sea is dyed orange-red, and paired with the silhouettes of fishing boats on the mudflats, every photo looks like a blockbuster. Here, you can also see national-level intangible cultural heritage puppet shows and Lili Mei fishing songs. 🏠Where to stay: Bozhong Village has gathered quite a few seaside homestays, such as Yudu Haishiguang and Chengwai You Xingguang Hai Manman. Many of them offer ocean views right when you open the door, and the hosts even provide small buckets for sea-foraging for free. ⚠️Avoid pitfalls: Sea-foraging looks simple, but there's a trick to it; if the tide times are wrong, you might not catch much. Before you head out, ask your homestay host to check the tides for the day, and following local fishermen is much more reliable. 🚗 Ding'an Xiangou | Volcanic cold springs and "dancing" beef 📍How to get there: Head south from Haikou, and you'll reach Ding'an very quickly. 🍜What to eat: Half the reason to come here is for the food. Xiangou beef is all about being freshly slaughtered and eaten immediately. How fresh is the meat? The muscles of the freshly cut beef are still slightly twitching, which is why locals call it "dancing beef." The classic way to eat it is with a dual-purpose hot pot: clear broth for boiling in the center and a griddle for frying on the outer ring. Dip it in mixed sauce with small calamansi; it's so tender it'll make you bite your tongue. In the morning, don't forget to go to the Xiangou Old Market to slurp a bowl of wet stir-fried rice noodles—it's full of "wok hei" (breath of the wok). 📸Photo spot: The old streets and alleys of Ding'an Ancient City have a lot of character. Mottled walls, arcade houses, and old residences are all mixed together; it feels like time has been living there all along. Nanli Lake is also perfect for zoning out—just find a spot by the lake, sit down, watch the water, and do absolutely nothing. 🏠Where to stay: You can stay in Ding'an County, or choose a resort hotel around Nanli Lake. If you're bringing family, staying a night by the lake is very comfortable. ⚠️Avoid pitfalls: The way to eat at Xiangou Beef Street is to buy meat at the market first, then take it to a processing shop. The beef is sold by the jin (500g). Ask about the price and processing fees before you buy so you know what to expect. 🚗 Haikou Rongshanliao Village | Sunset fishing village on the West Coast 📍How to get there: It's right on Haikou's West Coast, about half an hour from the city center, making it the closest one. 🍜What to eat: In the evening, fishermen return with full loads, and the freshly caught fish, shrimp, and crabs are poured directly onto the beach to be sold—a scene that has continued for 400 years. After buying, you can find a nearby shop to cook it for you, or you can go to new-style small shops like "Liaoli de Huayuan" (Garden in the Liao) to eat. 📸Photo spot: The coastline facing due west is 4 km long, making it the golden spot in Haikou to watch the sunset over the sea. Old items like the buoys and fishing nets at the village entrance, paired with trendy cafes and homestays, create a strong contrast between old and new, which is perfect for outfit photos. 🏠Where to stay: There are currently 16 themed homestays in the village, and many rooms are equipped with 180° panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows, so you can see the sea as soon as you wake up in the morning. The public area of Yuxi Light Luxury Sea View Homestay is great for photos. ⚠️Avoid pitfalls: Rongshanliao has become very popular in the last two years. It gets crowded on holidays, and parking is tight, so I recommend avoiding peak hours. Also, remember to ask for the unit price of seafood at the seaside food stalls before ordering, so you don't find out you're over budget when it's time to pay. 💡 Final thoughts These four places are all perfect for a half-day or one-day round trip. No need to rush early or wait in line; just sleep until you wake up naturally and then head out. Pick a weekend, choose a direction, pack your sunscreen and a good mood, and head out! 🌴

"Park Hyatt Sanya Sunny Bay Meets Yu Waitan" joins hands with | Four-hands dinner joins hands with | A vibrant collaboration I've attended quite a few four-hands collaborations, but this one opened up a new perspective for me. The main reason is that the two young chefs, in designing this dinner, avoided any "performative" expressions and relied entirely on the substance of the flavors to impress the diners. The opening featured two pastries: pork lard and betel nut taro pastry, and ginger-infused slow-roasted char siu pastry—one Fujian, one Hainan. Beyond the presentation, the true skill lay in the temperature; they arrived crispy on the outside and warm on the inside. The flavor profile was a contrast of taro, truffle, ginger, and the sweetness of the char siu, making for a rich opening experience. The five appetizers were: sous-vide Zhangzidao scallops, caviar with Qingliu bean curd skin, sea urchin marinated in green citrus puree and Sichuan peppercorn, Quanzhou curry eel jelly, and Fujian five-spice rolls. Viewed individually, they are five dishes, but together they form a structure: ingredients from the same sea, expressed through five flavor profiles, with a very logical blend of Fujian and Hainan styles! The Buddha Jumps Over the Wall was served in Dehua white porcelain. The soup followed the Fuzhou style, clarified over many days, resulting in an experience that was light, gentle, elegant, and refined. It was like a well-bred, elegant lady. Chef Lv Gang's lobster was simmered with perilla and pickled chili; I think Hunanese people would absolutely love it (the city of perilla!!). However, Chef Lv's sauce used an international culinary language, bringing several ingredients together in a particularly harmonious way. Next was Chef Chen Zhiping's leopard coral grouper from Xisha, drizzled with Yongtai camellia oil. It was light and not greasy, with a hint of charred spice that didn't overpower the flavors, followed by a touch of vinegar, creating a perfect balance of sour, sweet, and spicy. Then came snow crab in Jian'ou chicken mousse soup, followed by Ding'an black pork with queen scallops, poached in garlic sauce (I personally loved this dish; Chef Lv's knife work was beautiful, making the pork so neat and precise—I feel he must be a "perfectionist." The flavor was based on the classic garlic pork, with the sweetness coming from the queen scallops, making it satisfying and refreshing). The finale was a ginger flower, tomato, and wood ear mushroom stew—sour, sweet, and clear—which was incredibly refreshing to eat in Sanya. In fact, after this meal, the logic was clear: the techniques were international, while the ingredients were local. Sous-vide, grilling, frying, and sauces are all international gestures; Qingliu, Yongtai, Jian'ou, Dehua, Wanning, Ding'an, and Xisha are all Chinese counties and islands. truly deserves its status as the only Black Pearl One-Diamond restaurant in Hainan Province, and is ranked No. 6 on Asia's 50 Best Restaurants. The flavor expression of the two young chefs was immersive, refined yet with a touch of liveliness and playfulness. The flavors were also particularly international, catering to the palates of international diners, while maintaining the original taste of the ingredients and using seasoning as the perfect finishing touch. Finally, I must praise the "pacing" of this dinner. The menu logic had a great sense of rhythm, without feeling overwhelming. It was exceptionally well-controlled—well-paced, unhurried, comfortable, and pleasant. One more thing: the restaurant's space has a sense of being in an otherworldly sanctuary, with high ceilings and a loft tea room. It offers an experience of a "secluded paradise, a nostalgic return to one's roots." When in Sanya, you must come to the Tea House at for an experience.

With breezes sweeping over stone paths and clouds kissing the pastoral hills, Ding'an, free from the hustle and bustle of crowds, hides the gentlest charm and landscapes of northern Hainan🌿. Day 1 | Ancient city culture & local life 🌞 Morning: Visit the Ding'an Ancient City, stroll through the Ming Dynasty old street, explore the county government office ruins and Jianlong Pagoda, and touch the traces of centuries of history. 🍱 Noon: Head to Xiangou Food Street to taste the famous "dancing" Xiangou beef, available as hot pot or grilled, and incredibly tender. 🌤 Afternoon: Head to the Hainan Tropical Bird World to see birds flying together, get up close with peacocks and parrots—perfect for a family trip. 🌙 Evening: Stay in Ding'an County, explore the local night market, try authentic snacks like Ding'an zongzi and vegetable-stuffed rice, and soak in the small-town nightlife. Day 2 | Lakes & mountains, cooling off in cold springs 🌞 Morning: Arrive at Nanli Lake National Wetland Park, take a walk along the lake or rent a bike to cycle around it, watch the sparkling lake surface, and catch glimpses of water birds skimming across the water. 🍱 Noon: Choose a nearby lakeside farmhouse restaurant to taste Nanli Lake fish head and local wild vegetables for an authentic farm-to-table experience. 🌤 Afternoon: Visit the Jiuwentang Volcanic Cold Spring, a natural cold spring that stays around 23°C year-round. Take off your shoes to soak your feet and cool off; the volcanic rock landscape is very unique, and admission is free. 🌙 Evening: Return to the county town to rest, or meet up with friends for a local stir-fry meal to recharge. Day 3 | Seeking charm at the ancient peak & heading home 🌞 Morning: Visit the Wenbifeng Pangu Culture Tourism Zone, the ancestral home of Hainan Taoism's Southern Sect. The ancient buildings are scattered across the mountainside. Climb up to overlook the vast pastoral scenery—perfect for a peaceful stroll and making wishes. 🍱 Noon: Have a farmhouse meal at the foot of Wenbifeng and taste local dishes like Ding'an black pork. 🌤 Afternoon: Browse the local market to buy souvenirs; Ding'an meat zongzi and beef jerky are great choices. 📝 Travel tips ☀️ The UV rays in Hainan are strong. Be sure to pack a sun hat and sunscreen to avoid sunburn. 🩴 When visiting Jiuwentang Cold Spring, it is recommended to bring old slippers. The volcanic rocks are uneven and can be uncomfortable to walk on barefoot. The cold spring is free; do not trust solicitations for paid cold springs along the road. 👗 Wenbifeng is a religious site. Try not to wear overly revealing clothing. Keep quiet inside the halls and do not point at the statues. 🥩 When eating Xiangou beef, try to walk deeper into the food street to avoid the tourist shops at the entrance. Shops crowded with locals offer better value. 🚗 The attractions in Ding'an are spread out, so driving yourself offers the best experience. Public transport takes a long time, so consider taking a taxi or renting a car. 🦟 There are many mosquitoes in the countryside and by the lake, so carry mosquito repellent for a more comfortable trip. 🛒 For souvenirs, prioritize local supermarkets in the county town, as prices around tourist attractions tend to be higher.

A local institution in Sanya's Yalong Bay that's a total no-brainer🔥 Laopo Vanilla Duck, highly recommended by my Sanya friends! A true local favorite, this old-school Hainanese eatery is always packed at meal times, and the flavor is truly unforgettable! 🦆Five-Herb Duck A Hainan specialty, stir-fried and braised with five herbs, then locked in with high heat in a clay pot! Made with local free-range duck, the meat is firm but not tough, with absolutely no gamey taste. The secret sauce soaks into every piece of duck, blending herbal aromas with savory notes—the more you chew, the better it gets. After finishing the duck, mix the sauce with noodles🍜—it's next level! 🥩Ding'an Braised Pork Trotter Pot A must-order hearty dish! The pork trotters are slow-braised until soft, gelatinous, and falling off the bone with just a gentle bite. The braising sauce is rich and savory without being greasy—a hit with all ages. 🍨Signature Durian Stir-Fried Ice A summer dessert made to order! Packed with fresh durian, the stir-fried ice has a smooth, dense texture. It's silky, cool, and bursting with pure, rich fruit flavor. Wandered around Huilongguan Sports Park over the weekend and stumbled upon this hidden gem 🌴 What impressed me most was the large outdoor balcony and tent-style private rooms. It saves the trouble of heading out to the suburbs, allowing you to enjoy the romantic atmosphere of camping-style dining right in the city~ The tiered open terrace let us soak in the relaxed, cozy dining experience in the autumn breeze! The restaurant features an open kitchen that's bright and airy. You can watch the chefs prepare the dishes from start to finish, so you can see the fresh ingredients for yourself and dine with peace of mind 💕 For appetizers, I especially loved the sweet and spicy lemongrass green mango—it's crispy, tender, and refreshing 😋. The cauliflower mushroom seasoned with peanut sauce has a crisp, smooth texture, making it the perfect starter to kick off the meal 🍽️ The stir-fried dishes have a distinct island street-food vibe. The oil-blanched sea white shrimp is incredibly fresh and addictive. The Haikou volcanic black tofu, coated in the restaurant's homemade shrimp paste, is super flavorful! And the Ding'an black pork paired with Zhangshu Port chili peppers is just perfect with rice 🍚 The island charcoal grill also caught my eye. The butter toast dipped in their exclusive Hainan sauce is a unique way to eat it, and the Sichuan peppercorn chicken cartilage is addictive with every bite. For the main course, I highly recommend the coconut chicken oil rice. The glistening rice grains are infused with a subtle coconut aroma—it's so delicious you can eat it on its own without any side dishes 😋

🥢 This Hainan set meal for two is a great value Looking for a place to eat with friends this weekend I was recommended this Hainan-style restaurant We ordered the full set meal for two, which has a great variety No need to stress over ordering The two appetizers are perfect for starting the meal; the cauliflower mushroom has a crisp, smooth texture, and the spicy and sour green mango is refreshing and appetizing, instantly waking up the palate. The hot stir-fried main dishes are outstanding. The oil-blanched sea white shrimp is fresh and flavorful, and you can really taste the natural sweetness of the seafood. The volcanic black tofu with shrimp paste is soaked in sauce and is amazing with rice. The Ding'an black pork with Zhangshu Port chili is spicy and bold, with a very authentic local flair. The grilled snacks are great as nibbles; the butter toast dipped in the signature sauce is sweet, fragrant, and fluffy, and the Sichuan peppercorn chicken cartilage gets more fragrant the more you chew. Paired with old salt lemonade and three-scent lemon tea, it perfectly captures the Hainan vibe and balances out the spiciness of the dishes. You must try the coconut chicken oil rice at the end; it's oily, distinct, and has a subtle coconut aroma. The overall flavor isn't overly heavy, making it perfect for dates or gatherings with friends. If you're looking to try something different, come check this place out

Ding'an's attractions aren't "trendy," but they stand out for being peaceful, affordable, and authentic. The ancient city features a Ming dynasty brick tower and imperial examination archways. Wenbi Peak offers the landscape of Hainan's Taoist ancestral grounds. Nanli Lake and Jiuwentang Cold Spring showcase water formed by volcanic landforms. ⭐ Top 5 must-visit spots Wenbi Peak Pangu Cultural Tourism Area: The southern ancestral grounds of Hainan Taoism. The mountain is not high and the steps are easy to climb. The Yuchan Palace at the summit is the highlight. The best part is the view from the top overlooking the entire farmland and volcanic hills. On clear days, you can see far into the distance. Tickets cost about 40–60 yuan. Plan 2–3 hours. Mornings are less crowded. Ding'an Ancient City (Jianlong Tower + Jieyuan Archway): Remnants of a Ming dynasty county seat. Free admission. Jianlong Tower is a seven-story Qing dynasty brick tower standing alone in the rice fields, especially photogenic against the blue sky. Jieyuan Archway and Yayuan Archway are stone imperial examination archways that record Ding'an’s history of producing top scholars. Stroll along the old street arcade nearby. Takes 30 minutes to 1 hour. Nanli Lake: A provincial-level tourist area with no entrance fee. The lake is large and ecologically well-preserved. You can bike around the lake, take a boat to the island, or camp by the shore. It lacks the commercial feel of Sanya’s beaches, perfect for those who want to relax quietly. Boat tours cost extra; check prices first. Jiuwentang Volcanic Cold Spring: One of the few tropical volcanic cold springs in the country. The water temperature stays in the 20s Celsius year-round, offering a refreshing coolness in summer. The spring area features volcanic rock formations. Free or low cost. Bring slippers for a half-hour soak—it’s very refreshing. Hainan Tropical Bird World: A bird-themed park in Ding'an Taling New District with hundreds of tropical bird species. See peacocks display, parrots talk, and ostriches stroll. Tickets cost about 30–40 yuan. A top choice for families, with enough to do for half a day. 🌿 Off the beaten path but worth visiting Murui Mountain Revolutionary Base Memorial Park: Known as Hainan’s "cradle of revolution," located about an hour’s drive from the county seat in Zhongrui Town. It features a monument, museum, and former Red Army camp site. Free or low cost. A must-see for fans of revolutionary history. Ding'an Museum / County Government Site: Located in the old city, easy to visit along the way. Learn about Ding'an’s reputation as Hainan’s "top imperial examination county." Longmen Town Volcanic Crater Geological Site: A concentrated volcanic landform area with unique rock shapes. Photography and geology enthusiasts will enjoy it. Road conditions are average; self-driving is recommended. Lingkou Town Countryside Scenery: A southern Ding'an township with rice fields, betel nut gardens, and village homes showing authentic Hainan rural life. Worth stopping by if driving through. Longhu Town / Juding Area: Small towns on the way to Nanli Lake. Roadside farm restaurants serve freshly slaughtered chicken and duck. Food is cheaper than in tourist areas. 🧭 Suggested itineraries First visit · classic one-day: Wenbi Peak + Ding'an Ancient City + Xiangou beef lunch. Ding'an is a "county directly under the province" in Hainan, right next to Haikou. It takes just 40 minutes by car to go from the provincial capital to a Ming and Qing dynasty old town. Here, you won’t find the crowds of Sanya or the noise of Haikou. Instead, you’ll find a soft and sticky black pork zongzi, volcanic stones soaked in cold springs, and an ancient Ming dynasty tower standing in the rice fields. This route is perfect for those who want to avoid mainstream attractions but don’t want to travel too far—just a weekend trip. 🚄 How to get to Ding'an The high-speed train is the most convenient: take the island loop high-speed train from Haikou East Station to Ding'an Station, 15–25 minutes, second-class seat costs just over ten yuan; or transfer from Meilan Airport by high-speed train, about half an hour direct. Ding'an Station is about 6 km from the county seat, a 10-minute taxi ride to the old town. Self-driving: from Haikou, take Haiyu East Line (G223) or the island ring expressway, about 40–50 km, 40 minutes; coming from Wenchang or Qionghai is also convenient, all within 1 hour. Local transportation: attractions are scattered around the county seat, Nanli Lake, and Murui Mountain. Taxis cover the county seat and Nanli Lake area well. For Murui Mountain (Zhongrui Town), it’s best to charter a car or carpool, as there are many mountain roads and few buses. 🗺️ Three-day, two-night itinerary Day 1 County seat old town + Wenbi Peak Morning: after arriving at Ding'an Station, head to Ding'an ancient town. The Ming dynasty county layout remains intact. Key sights include Jianlong Tower (a seven-story Qing dynasty brick tower standing in the fields, very photogenic), Jieyuan Archway/Yayuan Archway (stone archways commemorating ancient imperial exam honors), the county government ruins, and the arcade old street. A slow 1.5-hour walk is enough. Noon: near the ancient town, have a meal of Ding'an zongzi (black pork zongzi is sticky and fragrant without being greasy, served with a bowl of clear soup), or go to Xiangou Town (8 km from the county seat) for Xiangou beef—freshly slaughtered and grilled, tender enough to eat without chewing. Afternoon: take a taxi to Wenbi Peak Pangu Cultural Tourism Area (about 15 km from the county seat, ticket about 40–60 yuan). This is the southern ancestral hall of Hainan Taoism. The mountain isn’t high, the steps are well built, and the Yuchan Palace at the top overlooks the fields. Both the incense offerings and the scenery are good. Allow 2–3 hours. Evening: stay in the county seat, enjoy a bowl of Ding'an fried rice noodles at the night market, and rest early. Day 2 Nanli Lake + Jiuwentang cold spring Morning: visit Nanli Lake (a provincial-level tourist area, about 20 km from the county seat, free admission, boat rides extra). The lake is wide and ecologically good. You can rent a bike to circle the lake or take a boat to see the island in the middle. The main appeal is tranquility. Noon: eat at a farmhouse restaurant around the lake, featuring Nanli Lake beer fish, Ding'an black pork, and native chicken. The ingredients are fresh and prices reasonable. Afternoon: visit Jiuwentang volcanic cold spring (one of the few tropical volcanic cold springs in China, water temperature around 23°C year-round, free or low cost). Soak your feet barefoot to cool off in summer; nearby volcanic rock formations are worth seeing. Evening: return to the county seat or stay at a guesthouse by Nanli Lake and watch the stars by the lake. Day 3 Murui Mountain red site + tropical bird world (choose one) Option A (family/nature): visit Hainan Tropical Bird World (Ding'an Taling New Area, ticket about 30–40 yuan) in the morning. The park has hundreds of tropical bird species, including peacocks, parrots, and ostriches. Great for kids to spend half a day. Option B (culture/red history): visit Murui Mountain Revolutionary Base Memorial Park (about 1 hour by car from the county seat, Zhongrui Town, free or low cost). Known as the "cradle of revolution" in Hainan, it has monuments, a memorial hall, and old camp sites. Suitable for those interested in red history. Afternoon: buy some Ding'an zongzi and Xiangou beef jerky as souvenirs, then take the high-speed train back to Haikou or drive back. 🌤️ Best season Open year-round, but November to April is most comfortable (Hainan’s golden season, not hot or humid); May to October is the rainy and typhoon season, with frequent afternoon thunderstorms. The cold spring and Nanli Lake are cooler then, but check the weather before going out. The Dragon Boat Festival period is the busiest time for Ding'an zongzi. The whole county makes zongzi and holds dragon boat races. Food lovers should plan for this time. 💰 Budget reference (for 2 people) Budget: stay in economy hotels or guesthouses in the county seat for about 150–220 yuan per night, about 350 yuan for two nights; meals average 50–80 yuan per person, about 600 yuan for three days; transportation (high-speed train + local taxis) about 200 yuan; tickets (Wenbi Peak + Bird World) about 150 yuan. Total about 1,300 yuan. Comfort: stay in quality guesthouses near Nanli Lake or Wenbi Peak for about 350–500 yuan per night, about 900 yuan for two nights; meals average 100–150 yuan per person, about 1,000 yuan for three days; charter a car for one day about 300 yuan; tickets same as above. Total about 2,400 yuan. ⚠️ Tips to avoid pitfalls Xiangou beef must be freshly cut and grilled: many beef shops line the streets in Xiangou Town. Only those with whole slabs of beef hanging outside, cut and grilled on site, are authentic. Frozen mixed cuts taste much worse. Wenbi Peak is a religious site: dress modestly when climbing, don’t make noise inside the temple, and ask about incense prices in advance to avoid being pressured into donations. Nanli Lake is large, don’t enter blindly: the main scenic area is free, but private fishing and boat rental spots along the lake charge different fees. Ask prices before boarding. Bring double slippers for Jiuwentang cold spring: the spring area has volcanic rocks and shallow water, so barefoot walking can be uncomfortable. Bringing an old pair of slippers is easiest. Murui Mountain is far with few buses: if you don’t drive, arrange a round-trip charter in the county seat in advance. Don’t rely on finding a carpool on site. Ding'an ancient town is free but spread out: Jianlong Tower is in the countryside, not the town center. When navigating, search for "Jianlong Tower" instead of just "Ding'an ancient town" to avoid getting lost. Don’t buy zongzi at scenic spots: the oldest shops and markets in the county seat sell the freshest and cheapest zongzi. Scenic area gift boxes cost twice as much and may not be made the same day. Don’t miss the last high-speed train back to Haikou: the last train from Ding'an Station is usually around 9 PM. Check the schedule if you plan to stay late to avoid rushing. zongzi beef Peak Lake nearby trips travel

This guide focuses on "slow pace" to help you arrange your budget, route, and food clearly. Ding'an Zongzi 🫔 *Feature: Ding'an's black pork dumplings are the best in Hainan! The glutinous rice is soft and glutinous, the pork is fat but not greasy, and the salted egg yolk is crunchy. One will make you full! 3. Ding An pickling powder🍜 * Features: Locals' first choice for breakfast, refreshing noodles, rich stew, plus peanuts, dried beef, super rich layers of taste. 4. Escaping the crowds of Ding'an Ancient City and heading to the southern mountains, you'll find the ancient Longmenling Market hidden deep among volcanic rocks and lychee forests. Century-old stone alleys crisscross, and the roots of ancient banyan trees twist and intertwine. The market only comes alive in the afternoon when local farmers set out their freshly picked produce and handmade snacks. There is no need for a strict itinerary; simply wander through the ancient alleys. You might stumble upon a stall selling steaming Ding'an rice noodle soup or a tender, savory black pork zongzi. When the mood strikes, take a stroll down to the streams at the foot of the ridge to take in the pristine beauty of the volcanic valley. Most people tend to cram their itineraries when planning a trip, strictly adhering to a schedule and feeling anxious the moment plans go awry. Yet, the most captivating travel surprises often occur outside the itinerary. There is no need to meticulously calculate every detail or force everything to unfold exactly as planned. Time in this ancient market never rushes its visitors, allowing you to linger and wander freely wherever your heart leads. Sitting beneath the ancient banyan tree, quietly watching the locals go about their day, you can cast aside the constraints of the clock and embrace every unexpected encounter. As twilight blankets the volcanic ridge, it is time to embark on the journey home. May every future journey be filled with less rigid planning and more spontaneous, unhurried wandering. Let us brew new tea on a freshly lit fire, and enjoy poetry and wine while we are in our prime.

Leaving behind the tourist crowds of Ding'an Ancient City and heading into the rural landscapes of Yunlong, the Thirty-Six Bend Stream meanders through endless acres of rice paddies. The river twists and turns, its waters remaining shallow throughout the year. The fields along both banks change hues with the passing seasons, egrets frequently skim across the water, and coconut palms and wild bamboo grow freely along the shores. You won't find any polished commercial spots here—only rustic paths stretching out along the field ridges. Farmers still plow and plant according to the agricultural calendar, allowing the stream to carve its natural path across the land without forcefully altering its course. At dawn, a delicate mist blankets the fields; by afternoon, cloud shadows drift slowly overhead. The stream flows ceaselessly, day and night, gently converging somewhere in the distance. In this mundane world, we often long for permanence. We try so hard to hold onto the fleeting beauty of the present, resisting any form of change, and when life strays from our planned trajectory, we are consumed by anxiety. Yet, everything in the universe is in constant motion. The stream never stays in one place, and the fields flourish and wither with the seasons—change is simply the natural order of things. Wandering along the field ridges by the stream, watching the water bend and flow forward, you slowly learn to let go of the urge to control everything. Calmly embrace the comings and goings, the highs and lows, without fixating on a single frozen moment in time, and just let life unfold naturally. As twilight drapes over the country roads, I begin my journey back, hoping to cultivate a heart that adapts to the flow of things, and to find lasting peace amidst the world's endless shifts. "Brew the new tea with freshly kindled fire, and relish in poetry and wine while still in your prime."

Hainan July–September off-the-beaten-path concise travel guide Just finished a round-island trip! Avoid the popular beaches in Sanya and the eastern Wanning area, skip the typical coastal check-ins, and unlock the island’s west and central lines for an authentic nature experience! Hainan isn’t just about coconut groves and surfing. The west hides volcanic coastlines and pristine fishing ports, while the center conceals tropical rainforests and ancient Li villages. From July to September, vegetation is lush, the rainforest is cool, and short afternoon showers are common. Typhoons decrease in September, making sea clouds and sunsets on the west coast even better, with noticeably fewer tourists. Experience the volcanic landscapes, Li and Miao cultures, and fishing village life, enjoying Hainan’s true essence away from commercialization. Many worry about the midday heat, overpriced seafood stalls, and touristy souvenir sales. With smart planning, you can easily avoid these pitfalls: head to the coast or rainforest early morning, stay cool in town shops or museums at noon, and catch the sunset at the west coast’s Orange Sea in the evening. 🚗 Transportation tips | Pitfall avoidance The island is divided into three main areas: the volcanic zone in northern Qiong, the west coastal fishing villages, and the central rainforest Li region. Remote villages have limited public transport. ✅ Use electric scooters or ride-hailing for short city trips; for longer distances, prioritize self-driving or official carpooling; gas stations are sparse on the west line, so fill up regularly; rainforest trails can be slippery after rain, so travel during daylight. ❌ Key things to avoid 1. Say no to cheap roadside one-day island tours that only cover popular eastern beaches and skip volcanic and lesser-known ancient villages; 2. Don’t buy pearls or dried seafood at scenic spots—they’re overpriced. For souvenirs, go to the old town’s farmers market; 3. Don’t climb over barriers in volcanic reef areas. Tides rise fast, so beware of getting trapped; 4. When entering Li villages, ask locals for permission before taking photos and respect their customs; 5. Swimming in rainforest streams is prohibited due to many underwater rocks and hidden currents. 7-day off-the-beaten-path leisure itinerary (natural, crowd-free) D1: Stay in a residential area of old Chengmai town, away from popular spots. Stroll through volcanic ancient villages and enjoy the small town’s night atmosphere🌃 D2: Hike the Eman volcanic coast in Danzhou, where black sea-eroded reefs stretch along the shore. Explore Dragon Gate’s crashing waves and listen to the sea hitting the rocks D3: Slow walk through Changjiang’s Haiwei wetland and Shayutang fishing village. Circle the reed wetlands by the lake, watch fishing boats return to port, and enjoy quiet beaches D4: Leisurely visit Yulinzhou in Dongfang, the west coast’s rocky lighthouse, and savor the island’s stunning sunset views alone D5: Explore Shihan Li village in Qiongzhong, an original Li community high in the mountains, wandering through terraced fields and forests D6: Light hike in Wuzhishan’s Shuimanhe rainforest, cool off in the pristine forest valleys, and admire the mountain peaks D7: Hunt for local snacks in old town alleys, shop for souvenirs, and head home smoothly 🏨 Accommodation area selection Rooms are tight in July and August, so book early. Prices drop in September. ✨ Best town rest spots: guesthouses in Chengmai and Changjiang county towns, with plenty of restaurants and convenient supplies. Traveling to west line spots is very smooth. ✨ Best mountain and coastal relaxation: Eman town and Li village farmhouses, with mountain and sea views from the window, far from tourist noise. ❌ Avoid: beachfront guesthouses on the first floor facing the street, as the island is humid and mosquito-prone; prioritize second-floor rooms with good ventilation; watch out for hidden fees during peak season. 💰 Budget reference | 5 days 4 nights per person 1,400–2,100 CNY Round-trip transport: 460–760 CNY Shared room accommodation: 400–650 CNY Carpool and attraction tickets: 240 CNY Meals and souvenirs: 400 CNY Most ancient villages, coastal trails, and wetland outskirts are free to visit. Traveling off-peak in September offers better value. 🍤 Local food | List of authentic local old shops ✅ Danzhou milan: authentic west line breakfast with flavorful braised ingredients and crispy peanuts ✅ Ding’an Xiangou beef: freshly sliced and cooked, tender meat, a local favorite ✅ Li bamboo tube rice: glutinous rice with savory meat, a mountain specialty ✅ Steamed mackerel: fresh seafood from fishing ports, simply cooked to highlight sweetness ✅ Old salt lemon iced water: a refreshing summer drink found everywhere on the streets ❌ Food pitfalls: coastal scenic area stalls are overpriced; authentic flavors hide in old towns and villages. Confirm seafood prices before ordering. 🌟 July–September exclusive off-the-beaten-path must-experiences 1. Eman volcanic coast A little-known volcanic coastline with no crowds, where black reefs meet the blue sea. The hiking trail is long, offering a unique landscape of fire and ocean. 2. Haiwei wetland park A rare inland freshwater wetland on the island, with continuous reeds and frequent wild waterbirds. Perfect for a peaceful walk away from noisy beaches. 3. Shihan Li village An ancient Li village nestled in the mountains, preserving traditional homes and terraced fields. The mountain air is cool, escaping the island’s summer heat. 4. Yulinzhou scenic area An excellent sunset spot on Hainan’s west side, with reefs and a vintage lighthouse. It’s a local secret for scenic views. 5. September island scenery Less rain, clearer air, longer west coast sunsets, misty rainforests, and perfect mountain-sea photo atmospheres. 💡 Travel tips 1. The island’s UV rays are very strong, so wear full sun protection even on cloudy days; temperatures vary day and night, and the sea breeze is strong at dusk, so bring a light jacket; mosquitoes are dense in rainforests and fishing villages, so bring insect repellent. 2. Most museums are closed on Mondays, so check opening hours in advance. 3. Convenience stores are scattered in west line towns, so stock up on water and snacks before heading into the mountains. 4. Afternoon showers are common, so carry an umbrella. 5. Protect the coast and rainforest environment by taking your trash with you. ✨ Final thoughts Don’t let summer heat or rain stop you! July and August showers are brief, the rainforest is lush, and the sea breeze is refreshing; September brings clear skies, delicious seafood, and fewer crowds. Hainan’s romance goes beyond popular surfing bays. Volcanic cliffs, remote Li villages, pristine fishing ports, and west coast sea breezes paint a complete and diverse island picture. No need to rush from spot to spot—sit on the rocks and wait for a sea sunset. The gentle sea breeze will soothe all your fatigue. If you want to avoid tour groups and explore the island’s natural secrets, head to Hainan’s west and central lines from July to September for a relaxing and healing mountain-sea journey💙
