On this trip, our group ventured into Guwan, an ancient bay nestled along the shores of Maoshan Lake in Jiangxia, to discover the gentle power hidden within the ordinary scenes of this untouched lakeside settlement. Situated along the western bank of Maoshan Lake, Guwan was historically a traditional fishing and farming village. For centuries, the locals relied on the lake for their livelihood. 🐸 A few years ago, when I first visited Luzhou, Sichuan, I wanted to see the cliff carvings on Yuchan Mountain in Luxian County. But the site was closed due to an earthquake. It wasn’t until three years later that I finally entered this secret place. 🐸 Yuchan Mountain is covered with stones, and every stone is a toad. The forest is deep and quiet, the streams flow gently, like a fairyland. The moon’s elegant name is "Yuchan," and the moon palace is also called "Changong" or "Guanghan Palace." So, the ancients actually linked this place with the moon palace in the sky as a beautiful symbol. Seen this way, Yuchan Mountain is like the earthly Guanghan Palace in the eyes of the ancients. 🐸 Although there is no Chang’e here, many cliff carvings remain. This is a rare group of grottoes in the Sichuan-Chongqing area, mainly from the early to mid-Ming dynasty. The carvings vary in size, from over 30 feet tall to less than a foot, with diverse styles and delicate craftsmanship. 🐸 Above the steep steps stands a memorial archway. The center top reads "Chanku," with a horizontal plaque saying "Yuchan fairyland," as if it’s the entrance to Guanghan Palace, radiating a strong sense of mystery. The Song dynasty grotto carvings in Bashu are an unsurpassed artistic peak. But with the Mongol invasion, Bashu carvings abruptly stopped. It was renamed Yuchan Temple after Huang Tingjian inscribed "Yuchan." The temple was repeatedly built and destroyed.
