Standing near Xianglu Temple watching the river, the sound of the water is muffled, and the wind carries the scent of earth. ⚠️ The mountain roads are narrow. If driving, don't push it; find a wide spot in advance when passing other vehicles. Red Stone Gorge: Close to the city, half a day is enough. Families can come, but if the kids can't walk, you'll have to carry them, as there's no shade on the city wall. 03 Wuxi | Jiangsu I'm familiar with Wuxi. Nianhua Bay and Lingshan are good for 1 day, and Huishan Ancient Town for another half day. It's crowded during the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day, but still more relaxed than Suzhou. ⏰ Go to Lingshan Grand Buddha in the morning. The Nine Dragons Bathing performance has fixed times; check the schedule board when you enter. 📍 You need to wear shoe covers inside the Vatican Palace; don't wear slippery shoes. Save Nianhua Bay for the evening. It looks best when the lanterns light up; it's actually quite average during the day. ⚠️ Accommodation inside is expensive; it's more cost-effective to stay outside and take a taxi in. Three Kingdoms and Water Margin City is good for kids. Split these 2 places over 2 days so you don't have to rush. 📍 Firefly Water Cave & Underground Grand Canyon are in Yishui County. The cave has a constant temperature, so you need to wear long sleeves in summer. ⏰ Enter the cave before 10 AM to avoid crowds and lines for the boat. Yimeng Mountain is vast; just choose either Guimeng or Yunmeng. ⚠️ Don't try to do it all in 1 day; the cable cars and walking paths take time to connect. 🍜 Have stir-fried chicken and pancakes at a farmhouse restaurant at the foot of the mountain. The portions are large; 1 serving is enough for 2 people. 🚄 It's about a 1.5-hour drive from Linyi city to Yishui; renting a car or hiring a driver is recommended. Suitable for those who like caves and mountain scenery. The cave is slippery, so hold onto seniors and children. Expect lines at the cave entrance during the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day, so arrive early. 06 Anqing | Anhui I'm only writing about Tianzhu Mountain for Anqing because one mountain is enough to keep you busy for 2 days. The temperature on the mountain is much lower than at the foot during the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day. 📍 Enter from the South Gate of Tianzhu Mountain, take the cable car to Zhenyigang, then climb the Mysterious Valley. ⏰ Go up the mountain early in the morning for a higher chance of seeing the sea of clouds; it gets foggy easily after noon. ⚠️ The Mysterious Valley is narrow; you won't get through with a large backpack, so travel light. There is limited accommodation on the mountain, so book in advance or stay in Qianshan city and head to the mountain early. 🍜 Have mountain powder dumplings with pork after coming down the mountain; it's a local dish, sticky and flavorful. 🚄 It's about 1 hour from Anqing Station to Qianshan, then transfer to the scenic area bus. Suitable for fit hiking enthusiasts. If bringing children, take the West Gate small loop; don't push for the main peak. Ticket prices and cable car info are subject to official daily announcements. 07 Lijiang | Yunnan I hesitated to write about Lijiang, fearing you'd find it too familiar. But if you want a stress-free Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day, its facilities are complete, and 3 days is just right without being tiring. 📍 Go to Lijiang Ancient Town in the morning before Qiyi Street and Wuyi Street are filled with tourists. ⏰ You have to catch the windless early morning at Black Dragon Pool Park to photograph the reflection of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. Mufu is worth entering; the ticket isn't expensive. The clouds get thick in the afternoon, so seeing Bogda Peak is a matter of luck. The wheat fields in Jiangbulake are golden in autumn; ⏰ mid-to-late September is the peak. ⚠️ The scenic area is large, with shuttle buses and walking involved; allow at least 5 hours. Wucaibian is best at dusk when the Yadan landforms are dyed red by the sunset. 🍜 Have hand-pulled noodles and baked buns in Changji city, and grab another meal on the way back. 🚄 It's 30 mins from Urumqi to Changji city, but renting a car is recommended for visiting the various scenic spots. Suitable for road-trippers and photography enthusiasts. There is a large temperature difference during the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day, so bring a thick jacket. Of these 8 places, I most recommend Yulin and Langzhong. They are uncrowded and have a slow pace; 3 days is well spent. Pick one, don't be greedy.

You can rent shoe covers at the entrance for 10 yuan. 📍 The crooked willow tree on the south side of Crescent Lake is a great spot for reflection photos with fewer people. Chaya Mountain: ⏰ It’s most comfortable to hike in spring and autumn. You'll be squeezing through rock crevices, so if you're on the larger side, you'll need to turn sideways. 📍 The "Thread of Sky" section has long lines; arriving before 10:00 AM can save you half an hour. Laole Mountain: Head up after 4:00 PM. It’s cool in the pine forest, and the view from the top for sunset is wide open. ⚠️ The steps on the way down are steep; if you have bad knees, take the gentler slope path. 🍜 Zhumadian spicy soup with pan-fried buns—breakfast stalls open at 6:00 AM, and it’s genuinely spicy. It’s about a one-hour drive from the city to Chaya Mountain. Driving yourself is convenient; bus service is infrequent. 08 Qiandongnan | Guizhou You have to be selective about which villages you visit in Southeast Guizhou. Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village: ⏰ The lights on the viewing platform turn on at 7:00 PM, looking like a galaxy of stars. The commercial street is noisy, though, so stay at a homestay halfway up the mountain for peace and quiet. 📍 The alley going up from Wind-and-Rain Bridge No. 4 has batik shops that are cheaper than the main street. Zhaoxing Dong Village is quieter than Xijiang. Listen to Dong ethnic songs under the drum tower; you don't have to fight the crowds for the 3:00 PM performance. Zhenyuan Ancient Town is worth an overnight stay. The Wuyang River runs through the town. ⏰ The Zhusheng Bridge is empty in the early morning, and you can climb Shiping Mountain for a panoramic view.
