Though the weather was chilly, the rugged beauty of the glen made it worth braving the cold. The unique, otherworldly formations of grassy knolls and twisted hills, lightly dusted with frost, created a mystical atmosphere. Without the summer crowds, we had the entire place to ourselves, allowing us to soak in the quiet and surreal scenery. The winding paths and peculiar rock formations, including the famous “Castle Ewen,” looked like something out of a fairy tale. It was a peaceful and enchanting experience, showcasing Skye’s raw beauty in its winter solitude.

Bus 57 Portree–Uig stops at the Quiraing junction (5 GBP, contactless). No facilities up there—Portree has ATMs, Uig has a café (card ok). I wore waterproof trail shoes; the moss hollow is thigh-deep squelch in places, gaiters advised. Wind on the ridge is 60 km/h gusts; the view to Fladda and the Outer Isles is why you come. Mistake: I tried the loop clockwise—wrong, the east descent is scree hell. Go anticlockwise, finish at the Table for sunset. Should the Quiraing stay a free single-track wonder, or does a 10 GBP parking machine protect the moss from the Instagram crowd?
