Most people visiting Tianmen Mountain stop after Heaven’s Gate or the main viewpoints. But if you keep going ALL the way to the right side of the summit area… through the cliff paths, glass walkways, misty bridges and mountain trails… …you eventually reach one of the most surreal places we saw in Zhangjiajie: 🏮 Tianmen Temple (天门山寺) A hidden Buddhist temple above the clouds. And honestly, not many tourists make it all the way there — which is such a shame. And somehow, at the very end of April, there was STILL cherry blossom blooming there 🌸 Honestly, the combination felt unreal: 🌫 thick fog 🌸 soft pink sakura ⛰ dramatic cliffs 🏮 temple roofs disappearing into clouds 🌧 light mountain rain Everything looked like a fantasy movie set. And weirdly enough? The terrible weather actually MADE the photos. Nothing looked too polished or “Instagram-perfect.” Instead everything turned mystical, cinematic and almost dreamlike. Some of my favorite China photos from the entire trip came from this exact spot. BUT — important survival warning 😭 IT WAS FREEZING. Not just “a little chilly.” Actual cold mountain wind cutting through wet clothes while walking through fog for hours. So if you plan to explore the temple area properly: ☔ ABSOLUTELY bring a raincoat ❌ DO NOT bring umbrellas Seriously. The wind on the mountain destroys them.
