Once bearing the heavy burden of the nation with iron shoulders, his harsh hand could not tolerate treacherous selfishness

“Baoding Jingzhong Temple,” also known as Yang Gong Temple, is located at No. 39 Huanghuaguan Street, Baoding. It was built to honor the loyal minister Yang Jisheng of the Ming dynasty. Yang Jisheng (1516–1555), styled Jiaoshan, was a native of Baoding Prefecture. He was persecuted for impeaching the powerful minister Yan Song’s “ten major crimes” but was later exonerated and posthumously awarded the title of junior minister of the Ministry of Rites, with an imperial decree to build a dedicated temple. The temple was first built in the 29th year of the Wanli reign (1601). Its architectural layout is a typical siheyuan courtyard. The lintel above the gate hangs a plaque inscribed with “Jingzhong Temple,” flanked by couplets praising Yang Jisheng: “Iron shoulders bear righteousness, harsh hands compose writings,” highlighting his integrity and unwavering character.
