Summer day trip in Baoding to explore famous historical sites and stay at Zeus

✅ Craving Baoding’s donkey meat sandwich since July, and after watching Sa Beining eat beef pancake videos, I was even more eager. Finally made the trip in August. Traveling solo means being decisive; otherwise, this might have fallen through again 🥰 🚗 Transportation Baoding station is really close to the attractions! Exit from the east square, and there’s a shared bike station right across from McDonald’s on the right. Getting around is super convenient. 🥮 Yonglongmao donkey meat sandwich Just a 10-minute bike ride away. On the way, I stopped by the Mixue Bingcheng flagship store and bought two mystery boxes. Arrived before 10 AM and waited 10 minutes in line. I took it to go and ate it on the way to the Zhili Governor’s Office. The sandwich was warm, and the donkey meat was very flavorful! They also include some small salty pickles with takeout. Although a bit salty, they help cut the richness. 🕐 Price: Donkey meat/sausage options are 15/17/20 yuan. I ordered the 15-yuan one. The meat portion was generous and good value. 🏠 Zhili Governor’s Office A 10-minute walk from Yonglongmao. Admission is 35 yuan. The courtyard is large and quite busy. I didn’t hire a guide, just took a quick look around for fun, but the architecture itself is impressive. 🍎 Anjia beef pancake (West Street branch) A 5-minute walk from the Governor’s Office to West Street. Arrived at 10:55 AM with no line, but had to wait until 11 AM to scan the code and order (business is really good). 💕 Daci Pavilion Strolled over after eating. Free admission! The site is small, with worshippers and volunteers. That day, there was also a free clinic and free water. You can go up to the second floor to enjoy the quiet view. 🪷 Ancient Lotus Pond Admission is 30 yuan. A large area of lotus leaves arranged beautifully. Although past the blooming season with few flowers, the lush greenery is very refreshing. There’s a reading room on the second floor where you can relax and read. 💯 Huai Army Office Museum Biked there. Admission is 25 yuan. Few visitors, and the ancient theater inside is truly magnificent! Opposite is the Water Conservancy Museum, which is free but requires registration. 👍 Stroll along West Street Ended up back at West Street, navigated to “Donkey Meat Cao,” then walked along the street behind to the archway. Some small shops on the street are quite interesting. It should look even better lit up at night. I’ll definitely come back for a second visit. ❤️ Final thoughts: Baoding’s attractions are really close together, reachable within 10 minutes by bike or on foot, which is great for energy levels. Personally, I think Yonglongmao’s donkey meat sandwich tastes better and is a bit cheaper. I didn’t find any brochures at the attractions, so if possible, hiring a guide might be better.
