Lesser-Known Free Attractions in Guangxi - Yantan Scenic Area

The Dahua Yantan Scenic Area is a regional scenic spot in Guangxi, characterized by its typical karst topography. It is located in the northwestern part of Dahua County, Hechi City, Guangxi, about 85 kilometers from the county seat and was opened to tourists in 1996. The scenic area was formed after the construction of the Yantan Hydropower Station. The reservoir covers more than 80,000 acres, with clear green waters and vast misty waves. Over a hundred islands and peninsulas are scattered throughout, presenting a variety of shapes and forms. Green trees and blooming flowers embellish the landscape, creating a beautiful and enchanting scene. Numerous water bays are lined with Yao and Zhuang ethnic villages, with each household facing the lake and boats docked at their doors. The fish cages spread across the bays form a 'waterborne home', and the waterside scenery is captivating. Yantan is the center of the Zhuang ethnic group's song festivals. On the third day of the third lunar month, tens of thousands of young men and women dressed in festive attire, carrying five-colored glutinous rice and dyed eggs, gather here. Boats team up on the lake, with mountain songs echoing back and forth; on the grasslands in the woods by the lake, men and women sing in pairs, 'bumping colored eggs', throughout the night. Taking advantage of this year's March 3rd, I also took a look, and what cured all my emotions was not the song festival, but the magnificent natural scenery and the simple local customs. However, construction is currently underway at the mountain top, and the Beauty Peak has been closed to visitors.
