Plitviče Lakes National Park

Plitviče Lakes National Park fell short of my expectations in terms of grandeur & magnificence, but the entire 295-square kilometre forest reserve in central Croatia is still a natural beauty. Encompassing 16 terraced lakes, joined by waterfalls that extend into a limestone canyon, we only had time to set foot on some of the numerous hiking walkways across the water. As it was a Saturday, visitors to the national park were aplenty and we were thankful that chaos didn’t ensue along the crowded & narrow walkways. At 78 metres high, Veliki Slap is the highest waterfall in the national park and we made sure to view her first before hopping on an electric boat from the lower lakes to the upper lakes.
