Li Yang Bao En Zen Temple

The name of Bao En Temple is derived from the 'Buddha Speaks the Mind Ground Observation Sutra' and the 'Great Convenient Buddha Repays Kindness Sutra', which speak of repaying the kindness of parents, all sentient beings, the country, and the Three Jewels. The Zen temple was originally built during the reign of Emperor Wu of the Southern Liang Dynasty, Xiao Yan, in the Tianjian era (502-519 AD). Bao En Temple was originally located 50 li northwest of Li City, in the area of today's Shangxing and Shangpei towns. The new temple is situated on the beautiful banks of Tianmu Lake, with the old temple exuding an ancient charm. The new temple is styled in Thai architecture, surrounded by towering trees, and sits on the north side of the vast and misty Tianmu Lake.
