Morocco, although an African country, has a very unique geographical location. It is the intersection of the Mediterranean and the Atlantic, facing the European continent across the sea. It has deserts, hills, oases, and snow-capped mountains, making it a holy land for skiing and surfing. Starting from Marrakech, it takes more than 8 hours to reach the Merzouga Desert via Ouarzazate by car. Our trip of eight people this time verified this saying. Morocco, Africa.

I can’t even put into words how much I loved the three days I spent in this little town in the Sahara Desert. Merzouga is situated near the Algerian border, and is the perfect base from which to experience the culture and beautiful landscapes of the Sahara. You’ll find a massive expanse of sand dunes here, making you feel like you’re worlds away from civilization. But in fact, Merzouga is fairly easy to access, and has plenty of accommodations to make it an easy add to your Morocco itinerary. Stay at least two nights in a luxury desert camp to get the full experience and to give yourself enough time to unwind. Don’t miss ATV riding around the dunes, a musical performance from the local Berbers, and dinner under the stars. #awesomepic
