Penrith

Penrith Originally founded by the original Darug tribe, many descendants of which still live here; Captain Cook arrived at Sydney's Botany Bay in 1770, and 18 years later, in 1788, Captain Phillip established the first European settlement in Sydney; next, in 1789, Captain Watkin Tench of the Royal Fleet led a fleet to Parramatta at the foot of the Blue Mountains. They followed the river northwards; the river was named the Nepean after Evan Nepean. Since then, the area has become known as Evan, and agriculture and food processing industries have developed rapidly.
