The Ancient Canal Path

Shaoxing's ancient canal path, located in the Shaoxing section of the East Zhejiang Canal in Zhejiang Province, stretches from east to west across the entire territory of Shaoxing, extending for more than 40 kilometers. It was a pathway where ancient people towed boats by pulling ropes. The ancient canal path was first constructed in the tenth year of the Yuanhe era during the Tang Dynasty (815 AD) for the Xiao-Shao Canal, and it runs through the middle of the broad canal. The ancient canal and canal path in the Shaoxing section are both national key cultural relics protection units.
