Where to Stay in Toyonaka? — traveler post in Itami

Where to Stay in Toyonaka?

Planning a trip to Osaka but prefer somewhere quieter than Namba or Umeda? Discover Toyonaka, a largely residential city in northern Osaka Prefecture! With beautiful parks, traditional neighbourhoods and convenient transport connections, Toyonaka is perfect for travellers who enjoy experiencing everyday Japanese life. But here's something important: Toyonaka has fewer conventional hotels than central Osaka. Choosing the right location is essential! ✈️ 1. Hotarugaike / Osaka Itami Airport | BEST FOR AIRPORT ACCESS ⭐ Best for: Short stays, business travellers and early flights If you're flying through Osaka Itami Airport (ITM), this is one of the most convenient areas to stay. Hotarugaike Station connects Hankyu Railway and Osaka Monorail, making airport and city travel relatively straightforward. Why stay here? · Convenient for Itami Airport · Good railway connections · Practical accommodation options · Neighbourhood restaurants and shops · Excellent for overnight stopovers 🏨 Recommended stays: · Osaka Airterminal Hotel: Inside the airport terminal · Toyoko Inn Osaka Itami Airport: Practical airport hotel · Hotel A.P: Budget-oriented accommodation near Hotarugaike ⚠️ Itami Airport primarily handles domestic flights. Don't confuse it with Kansai International Airport (KIX). 🍜 2. Shōnai | BEST FOR BUDGET & LOCAL LIFE ⭐ Best for: Backpackers, solo travellers and local experiences Want affordable accommodation and traditional Japanese neighbourhood surroundings? Shōnai is worth considering! This area has shopping streets, local restaurants and rail connections towards central Osaka. Why stay here? · More affordable guesthouse-style options · Easy access to Osaka-Umeda by Hankyu Railway · Traditional shopping streets · Local restaurants and everyday shops · Less tourist-focused atmosphere 🏨 Recommended stays: · Guest House Nihon Yado 168 / Hostel J Culture168 · Music Uni Street Backpacker's Hostel 🌸 3. Ryokuchi-kōen / Hattori Ryokuchi | BEST FOR NATURE ⭐ Best for: Families, couples and nature lovers Want to wake up somewhere surrounded by green spaces? The Ryokuchi-kōen area is perfect for travellers who enjoy peaceful parks and relaxing walks. Why stay here? · Access to Hattori Ryokuchi Park · Beautiful cherry blossoms in spring · Botanical gardens and outdoor attractions · Family-friendly recreational spaces · Direct railway connections towards central Osaka The Open-Air Museum of Old Japanese Farmhouses is a highlight, showcasing traditional Japanese architecture. 🏨 Accommodation tip: Hotel choices immediately around the park are limited. Look for apartment-style stays or consider hotels around nearby Esaka, which is in neighbouring Suita City. 🚝 4. Senri-Chūō | BEST FOR TRANSPORT CONNECTIONS ⭐ Best for: Families, longer visits and relaxed travellers Senri-Chūō is a modern residential and commercial district with excellent transport connections. It's convenient for reaching Shin-Osaka, central Osaka and Osaka Itami Airport. Why choose this area? · Direct railway access towards Shin-Osaka and Umeda · Shopping and everyday conveniences · Quieter surroundings · Access to Osaka Monorail · A good location for northern Osaka sightseeing Important 2026 update: Senri Hankyu Hotel Osaka closed on 30 March 2026, so conventional hotel availability around Senri-Chūō is limited. If you're unable to find suitable accommodation, consider nearby Esaka or Shin-Osaka instead. ✨ My recommendations 🥇 Airport convenience: Hotarugaike 💰 Budget-friendly stay: Shōnai 🌸 Nature and relaxation: Ryokuchi-kōen 🚝 Northern Osaka transport hub: Senri-Chūō, subject to accommodation availability 📸 Don't miss these experiences! ✨ Hattori Ryokuchi Park: Enjoy lush greenery and seasonal flowers. ✨ Open-Air Museum of Old Japanese Farmhouses: Discover traditional architecture from different regions of Japan. ✨ Senri-Chūō: Explore the modern residential atmosphere and shopping areas. ✨ Osaka Itami Airport Observation Deck: Watch aircraft take off and land. ✨ Shōnai Shopping Streets: Experience local Japanese food and neighbourhood culture. 💡 Travel tips 📅 Recommended stay: 1–2 nights for a local visit, or longer if using Toyonaka as a quiet Osaka base. 🚆 The Hankyu Takarazuka Line connects stations such as Shōnai and Hotarugaike with Osaka-Umeda. 🚇 Ryokuchi-kōen and Senri-Chūō are connected to the Osaka Metro Midosuji Line through Kita-Osaka Kyuko Railway. 🏨 Check hotel locations carefully because some accommodation search results labelled Toyonaka are actually in neighbouring cities. 🌸 March–April is especially beautiful for cherry blossom walks, depending on the year's blooming conditions. Toyonaka might not be Osaka's most famous destination, but that's part of its appeal. Would you prefer a quiet neighbourhood stay or a hotel close to the airport? 🌿 #Toyonaka #OsakaJapan #WhereToStay #JapanTravel #HiddenOsaka #HattoriRyokuchi #SenriChuo #KansaiTravel #TripMoments #TravelGuide

Traveled across half of Japan and finally found the most famous chicken on the internet in 2015 — traveler post in Itami

Traveled across half of Japan and finally found the most famous chicken on the internet in 2015

Another old photo from back in the day I think I first saw this poster on Weibo around 2015. It was probably posted by "Ono Imoko Xue Tucao"? I thought it was really interesting. It was huge on FB and then became a big hit on Weibo for a while. (But looking back years later, it seems a bit dark?) And that year, I started my long journey to find the restaurant. In 2016, I first searched for "Torishige" by name. It seemed to be a high-end yakitori chain. So I first went to the Nagoya Torishige and had Nagoya Cochin chicken. The storefront and sign were exactly the same. But the restaurant said this poster wasn't theirs. Looking closely, it was Akita Hinai-jidori chicken, not Nagoya Cochin. Later in 2017, I specifically went to Akita to look for it. I did eat several meals of high-end Hinai-jidori chicken. But I didn't find this place. After all, the internet wasn't as developed back then. Finally, in 2020, I found out it seemed to be in Itami. Although I had already left Kansai and was working in Kanto. But I'm really persistent when it comes to food. So I went to look for this Torishige in Itami again. At the time, there was absolutely no information on Google. When I walked into the shop and saw this poster, I was so moved I almost cried 😭😭😭 The owner said this is the only location and there are no branches (so I don't know who copied whose storefront decor 😂). And the poster was made by Dentsu (as expected of Dentsu 😏). Their place is also a Michelin-recommended restaurant in Itami City. The taste is good, sure, but as a yakitori connoisseur, I think there are many yakitori places better than theirs. I mainly came for the sentiment and to fulfill a wish 😅 ·

Best meal in Japan? At an airport. Go figure. — traveler post in Itami

Best meal in Japan? At an airport. Go figure.

#underratedspots Stumbled on Katsukura at Osaka Itami—tiny, empty, totally unexpected. We sit down, and they bring us a bowl of sesame seeds and a wooden pestle. Wait, we have to grind our own? Never seen that before. At first we’re confused, then it becomes the most satisfying pre-meal ritual—crushing those little seeds until they release this warm, smoky aroma. You mix in the sauce yourself, and suddenly you're invested in your meal before it even arrives. But the real MVP? The miso soup. April = fresh bamboo shoots in a light white miso broth. Absolute umami bomb. I asked for seconds (and thirds). Forget the fancy restaurants. This airport gem stole my heart. If you’re flying out of Itami, skip the food court—find this place.

Yakushima: The Island Where Ancient Gods Live 🌲 — traveler post in Itami

Yakushima: The Island Where Ancient Gods Live 🌲

This is Yakushima — the island that inspired Hayao Miyazaki's Princess Mononoke and became one of Japan's first UNESCO World Heritage sites. Why people come here: · Ancient cedars 🌲: The star of the island is Jōmon Sugi — estimated to be between 2,170 and 7,200 years old, making it the oldest living tree in Japan. To see it, you'll need to hike 4–5 hours one way — and it's absolutely worth it. · Misty forests 🌫️: Shiratani Unsuikyō Gorge — the main attraction for fans of Princess Mononoke. A moss-covered forest with streams, giant boulders, and centuries-old trees — where reality blends with myth. · Waterfalls 💦: Oko-no-taki — an 88-meter waterfall, one of Japan's finest. And Senpiro-taki — plunges 60 meters down a 200-meter-wide granite monolith, especially impressive after rain. · Sea turtles 🐢: On Nagata Inakahama beach, from May to July, you can watch loggerhead turtles come ashore to lay their eggs. Night tours are a true natural wonder. · Unique wildlife 🐒: The island is home to endemic subspecies — Yaku-saru (Yakushima macaques) and Yaku-shika (Yakushima deer). They're unafraid of humans and often appear right on the road. Getting to the island ✈️🚢 · Flight from Kagoshima — 40 minutes, about 12,000–18,000 yen one way (regular fare ~21,000 yen) · Flight from Osaka (Itami) — about 100 minutes, 30,000–38,000 yen one way · Flight from Fukuoka — about 1 hour, 17,000–31,000 yen one way · High-speed ferry from Kagoshima — 2–3 hours, 12,700 yen one way, 23,300 yen round trip · Car ferry from Kagoshima — 4 hours, 6,000 yen one way (car ~26,500 yen) · Ferry from Ibusuki — 75 minutes, 10,000 yen one way Accommodation 🏨 · Hostel / budget stay — from 44 $ (about 7,000 yen) per night · 2-star hotels — average ~117 $ per night · 3-star hotels — from 109 $ to 230 $ per night · Ryokan with meals — from 15,000–17,000 yen per night · Luxury / 4-star — from 470 $ and up What to know before you go: · One of Japan's rainiest places ☔: Annual rainfall reaches up to 10,000 mm in the mountains. Rain is the norm, not the exception — but that's exactly what creates the magical atmosphere. · Nature calls the shots 🏔️: Roads often close due to rain and landslides. Plans may change at the last minute — and that's okay. A trip to Yakushima is about learning to go with the flow. · Best time to visit 🔥: Spring (March–May) and autumn (October–November) offer comfortable hiking weather. May to August is turtle season. Peak tourist season is during Golden Week and summer holidays. Book accommodation and rental cars 1–2 months in advance during high season. 📌 Note: Yakushima isn't a place for rushing. You don't need to check off every spot in one day. Here, you stop. Breathe in the damp air. Touch thousand-year-old bark. And feel nature speaking to you. #travel2026 #yakushima #japan

A free, open-air spot where you can enjoy a field of blooming roses and airplanes overhead. — traveler post in Itami

A free, open-air spot where you can enjoy a field of blooming roses and airplanes overhead.

You can enjoy an atmosphere that feels just like a European street corner. 📍 Aramaki Rose Park 🌹 Around 10,000 roses of 250 varieties from all over the world are in full bloom across this stylish, Southern European-inspired park! World-famous roses bred in Itami, like the "Amatsu-otome" and "Madame Violet," are also planted here✨ There were so many other types of roses blooming, too! The blooming seasons are from May to June and October to November💡 It was a little hot this time, so some of the roses were looking a bit wilted🥲 Even so, the park was absolutely gorgeous, and I had a great time taking a relaxing stroll! Admission is completely free, though parking costs 500 yen🚗 Also, with Itami Airport nearby, another big draw is getting to see airplanes circling overhead time and time again✈️ It’s a wonderfully open spot where you can enjoy both flowers and planes! I'd love to come back next time when they're in full bloom!

A convenient route around Osaka 🚏 — traveler post in Itami

A convenient route around Osaka 🚏

"10 REASONS WHY OSAKA WILL BE THE BEST THING THAT HAPPENS TO YOU IN JAPAN! (And it’s not just about the food!)" Today, I’m taking you to one of Japan’s liveliest, most authentic, and most delicious cities—Osaka 🌍🍜 If Tokyo is the pulsing megacity of the future, then Osaka is the heart of old Japan—its soul, and of course, its stomach. This city is filled with a unique atmosphere that makes you fall in love with it instantly. Why is Osaka a must-visit? 1. The culinary capital of Japan! 🐙🍣 Osaka is paradise for food lovers. Locals call it “the nation’s kitchen” (天下の台所 - Tenka no daidokoro), and that’s absolutely true. Here are some things you simply HAVE to try: · Takoyaki (たこ焼き): These octopus-filled batter balls are one of the city’s signature foods. Served hot with sauce, mayo, and bonito flakes, they’re an absolute explosion of flavor! · Okonomiyaki (お好み焼き): Something like a Japanese savory pancake or pizza, made with cabbage, meat, or seafood and grilled to perfection. · Kushikatsu (串カツ): Various ingredients—meat, vegetables, seafood—deep-fried on skewers. The golden rule: dip into the shared sauce only ONCE. · Ramen: Of course! Osaka has its own unique takes on this beloved noodle soup too. 2. Amazing culture and history! 🏯🌸 Osaka Castle (大阪城): A majestic, beautifully restored castle that stands as a symbol of the city. Walking through its grounds and museum feels like stepping into the age of the samurai. Shinsekai (新世界) district and Tsutenkaku Tower (通天閣): The true atmosphere of old Osaka, with retro signs, street food, and a slightly kitschy but incredibly charming tower. Temples and shrines: Beyond the famous castle, Osaka is home to many beautiful Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples. 3. Shopping and entertainment 🛍️✨ Osaka is also a paradise for shoppers: · Dotonbori (道頓堀) district: This is the heart of Osaka nightlife! Neon signs, bustling crowds, street performers, and of course, endless rows of restaurants and food stalls. · Department stores and shopping streets: From luxury boutiques to lively covered arcades, you can find just about anything here. · Universal Studios Japan: For lovers of thrills and magical worlds, this place has it all—including the amazing Wizarding World of Harry Potter. My personal impressions: Osaka is a city that welcomes you with open arms and incredible food. The atmosphere is full of joy for life, and it’s contagious. I completely fell in love with this blend of old and new, these unforgettable flavors, and the sincere hospitality. Tips for travelers: · Try everything! Don’t be afraid to experiment with the local cuisine, even if it’s your first time tasting something. · Wear comfortable shoes: Walking around Osaka is a pleasure, and you’ll be doing a lot of it! · Learn the transportation system: It’s very convenient, but it’s worth understanding it in advance. Osaka is not just a destination—it’s a full-on adventure for your senses. If you want to experience the real, living Japan, this is the place to go 🇯🇵🍱

Universal Studios Japan

Overall the experience was good even thought it was a rainy day, a bit hard to explore the park and go into outdoor attractions. USJ very well organized. Super Mario is amazing as well as Donkey Kong area. You must ride the roller coaster over there. If you love zombies go in the last week of October, the atmosphere of the park is unique. It was worht the 104 USD. Avoid weekends. From Monday to Thursday is fine to enjoy.

Umeda Sky Building

Go to the 3rd floor via escalator, then elevator to the 39th floor. Head to the reception, show them the QR code to exchange for a physical ticket. After which you can head up to enjoy a panoramic view of Osaka city and the distant mountains.

Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan

I always wanted to checked out Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan since years ago but only now we have the chance. Sadly we were just went to Singapore Oceanarium, which is newer and had huge collections of marine life especially a lot more Jelly Fishes than Osaka. A Few differences Osaka has Whales, Penguins and Sea Lion, and Seal. Singapore does not have that. The crowds in Osaka Kaiyukan is really too crowded.

Osaka Castle Park

The castle is must a visit. Purchasing tickets from Trip ahead made the visit very convenient. We don't need to queue and we entered the castle immediately.

Umeda

There aren't many tourists, so it's recommended to reach the top an hour before sunset so you can get a good shot of the sunset. The rooftop has full glass windows so you can see Osaka Castle from afar. You can also buy a drink and find a seat indoors to slowly experience the sky garden.

It’s showed the related historycal knowledge in a very intresting manner. It gives a lot of information and you don’t need to wait for the tickets office, where always has big line.

Umeda Sky Building Kuchu Teien Observatory

Umeda Sky Building is definitely worth visiting in Osaka. The architecture is impressive, and the views from the Floating Garden Observatory are beautiful, especially around sunset when you can see the city lights coming on. It’s a great place for photos and a nice way to see Osaka from above. Highly recommended!

Katsuo-ji

⛩️ Katsuoji Temple is famous for its adorable Daruma dolls, symbolising luck and success! ❤️ There are so many scattered around the temple, making it a unique and photogenic place to explore.I visited around 8 to 9 AM, but it was already crowded! The atmosphere was lovely, with plenty of walking paths, scenic spots and benches to relax. I also tried the cute Daruma castella cake! 😋🚌 Bus fare: ¥800 per person, one way.✨ Tip: Arrive early, but be prepared for crowded buses. Take your time exploring the temple grounds!

Universal Studios Japan 25th Anniversary "Discover U!!!"

Entering at 3 PM on Sunday afternoon and rushing to catch my flight back to Pudong that evening, I still managed to enjoy four rides! The single-ride Flying Dinosaur and Harry Potter rides had almost no lines, for your reference; Hollywood Dream unfortunately had a section closed for maintenance that day, resulting in a queue of about an hour, which meant I didn't have time to go to Tron Lightcycle Power Run… Overall, for someone like me who isn't familiar with the Mario IP or non-essential attractions like Donkigang, and doesn't have much of a need for taking photos, entering at 3 PM without speedrunning is probably enough. Also for your reference, leaving around 6:10 PM that day, having lunch at Umeda, and then heading to the airport, I had plenty of time to take the Peach Racing train.
