The twin towers that have witnessed a millennium stand in Quanzhou's most beautiful Kaiyuan Temple

In the 'Buddhist country' of Quanzhou, the one place you must not miss is the iconic site 'Kaiyuan Temple'. The two towers within, which have stood for a thousand years without falling, have almost become the symbol of Quanzhou. They are the East Tower, Zhen Guo Tower, and the West Tower, Ren Shou Tower, both are Song Dynasty five-story octagonal stone towers in the style of a pavilion, having withstood numerous earthquakes and typhoons without falling, and they are the tallest pair of ancient stone towers still standing in China. It is said that during the Ming Dynasty, a major earthquake destroyed the entire city of Quanzhou, but only these two stone towers remained as stable as Mount Tai. Kaiyuan Temple is located at the end of West Street, and you can visit as early as 6 a.m. Inside, there are many exquisite stone carvings and eave decorations that are very distinctive. When we went, we happened to catch a monk's lecture and listened in on part of it, feeling that the content was so rich.
