Skansen in Opole

The open-air museum was established in 1961; in 1965, work on the construction of the permanent exhibition began, and in 1970 the museum grounds were opened to visitors. The main part of the exhibition are relocated and rebuilt objects of rural architecture illustrating the living conditions of the rural population in the period from the 18th to the beginning of the 20th century: residential buildings, barns, granaries, as well as mills and windmills, a forge, a church, an inn and a school. A collection of almost 7,000 museum objects in the field of material culture was also created, including historic items from the fields of agriculture, breeding, crafts and everyday life of the inhabitants of Opole villages. In the area occupied by the Museum, which covers just over 10 hectares, the full cultural landscape of the Opole village has been recreated. Homesteads and individual architectural objects are surrounded by carefully reconstructed, rich vegetation. The collection of the Opole Village Museum in Opole includes 23 historic buildings with shingle roofs. #poland #museum #opole
