The hotel combines classic New York elegance with spacious, comfortable rooms and a fantastic Midtown location. It was within easy reach of museums, shopping districts, restaurants, and many of the city’s most famous sights, making it an excellent choice for a longer stay. 🏨✨ One of the highlights of the week was spending time at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. It’s difficult to overstate just how extraordinary the collections are, from medieval treasures and European masterpieces to ancient Egyptian artefacts and decorative arts. You could easily spend multiple days there and still discover something new around every corner. 🎨🏛️ Equally memorable was visiting The Morgan Library & Museum, which felt like a hidden gem among New York’s cultural institutions. The historic library spaces, manuscripts, rare books, and stunning interiors make it a dream destination for anyone interested in literature, history, or the history of the book. 📚✨ As a long-time Patti Smith fan, seeing the legendary Chelsea Hotel was a particularly special experience. It is said that The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the British Museum, and the Louvre are the world's three great museums. So, even though there is an admission fee 🎫, it’s still worth collecting the experience. Honestly, it’s worth it, the ticket is a great value. The museum is very large, the exhibits are rich, and the small themed galleries are full of surprises. I felt like a whole day wasn’t enough. . Of course, while viewing the exhibits, you can also take photos, so you get your money’s worth and don’t leave empty-handed. . 📷 Photos 1-2. Medicine Buddha Painting Many people go to Shanxi but miss this masterpiece; find a chance to see it here—it’s very impressive and a pity to miss. Inside the China Gallery, there are many other beautiful artifacts worth photographing. . 📷 Photos 3-6. European Sculpture Hall This space has very high ceilings and is mainly white, so whether framing or photographing, the effect is excellent. I suggest photographers go upstairs while the model stays on the first floor; this makes the photos look more grand. . 📷 Photo 7. Second Floor of the Main Entrance Many treasures have been photographed here; the view behind is grand and beautiful, making it a must-visit photo spot. Medieval Armor Hall The weapons and armor here are exquisite and spectacular, but it’s quite crowded, so I quickly snapped a photo. It’s worth taking your time to shoot and appreciate carefully. . 📷 Photo 9. Medieval Art Gallery This is a sculpture exhibition in the atrium, near the entrance of the building to the right of the golden archery sculpture. I waited a long time to get a shot without tourists; there’s always a lot of foot traffic there. . 📷 Photos 10-11. Egyptian Gallery These are two murals inside the Egyptian Gallery: one is a light and shadow mural next to the temple, and the other is a physical mural in the corridor. . 📷 Photos 12-18. Any Glass Display Case Inside the Museum As long as there aren’t many people behind, the lighting is good, and the height is suitable, these angles are easy to find. Don’t look at the camera, quietly appreciate, and casually snap photos. . . Alright, there are actually many more photo spots, but since it’s so huge, we spent 4 hours and only saw a small part. Times Square 🏙️ Disney store 🏰🐭🎀✨ Day 3: Morning bagel at Esss-a-Bagel🥯 The salmon cream cheese and BLTA (bacon, lettuce, tomato, avocado🥑) was the best! 10:00 AM - MoMA🖼️ Ate New York cheesecake at Juniors🧁 It's huge and American-sized, so sharing one between two people is perfect! 7:00 PM - Watched Aladdin🧞♂️ on broad way We had seats right in the middle of the third floor for about 10,000 yen. We had a great view and it was amazing!! Went to Los Taco No.1 again this day!🌮 Two tacos are just the right amount! (For a girl👩🏽) Day 4: Off to Dumbo!! Gossip Girl fans will be super excited!! Walked across the Brooklyn Bridge🌉 from Dumbo! Took about 30-40 minutes? The view is so stunning that it flew by in a flash! Grabbed food at LEON’s bagel🥯 Shopping in SOHO🛍️! Rode the Staten Island Ferry to see the states of Liberty🗽 Statue of Liberty! It's a free round trip so🆓 it's the best😃 Went to see the 9/11 Memorial Pools. From there, we had pastrami sandwiches at Katz's Delicatessen, which President Clinton supposedly loved🥪!!! It's huge, so sharing one between two people is a good idea for this too!! Day 5: Breakfast at Ess-a-Bagel yet again, and drank a matcha latte at blankstreet🍵 Matcha is a massive trend among New Yorkers right now. Even though I'm Japanese, I got totally hooked on it in America🌎🌎 After that, took some commemorative photos at Central Station📸 More shopping in SOHO🛍🛒𓈒𓂂𓏸 I forgot to buy souvenirs at the MET so I went back for them (they actually let me in when I told them I wanted to buy souvenirs🥺), enjoyed the view of Central Park and hit up a nearby Starbucks😽 Since we had a late-night flight, we went back to the hotel to grab our luggage and took a bus to Newark Airport;🚌; You absolutely must book your bus tickets in advance!! The bus stop is also hard to find, so if you have 2 or 3+ people, taking an Uber from the hotel might be a better option! It was the absolute best trip🗺🗺 [Hotel We Stayed At] Neighborhood Midtown East Hotel Name pod51HOTEL It's right in the heart of Manhattan and about a 5-minute walk to the station! Super convenient for getting anywhere, and there are famous restaurants nearby so I highly recommend it. There's no private bathroom in the room, but the shared shower rooms and toilets are sparkling clean, not a unit bath, and securely locked with a card key so it's safe! You can check if the bathrooms on your floor are occupied from your room, which saved us the hassle of going to check and made things easy🙆 There are multiple bathrooms, so it was great being able to go in at the same time as my friend! [What to Bring] If you're a student, definitely bring your student ID! Admission to museums and galleries will be half price or less, so don't forget it!!! It doesn't even have to be an international student ID; a Japanese-only student ID works just fine☺️(((o(*ﾟ▽ﾟ*)o))) I didn't bring any cash at all! Only my card and Apple Pay! Had zero issues😽 [Things to Keep in Mind] Since public restrooms are scarce, it's best to use the bathroom at tourist spots like museums and restaurants🙆♀️ Bringing your own reusable water bottle might be handy. Restaurant portions are often American-sized, so sharing is highly recommended!! Flights, hotel, and sightseeing came out to about 230,000 yen in total! You'll need around 2 to 3 days to take in everything. We focused on Contemporary and European Art during our visit. Unfortunately, we didn’t have enough time to explore American Art and Egypt, but they looked interesting. The galleries are spacious, allowing you to comfortably view the artwork. Staff members are approachable and courteous. The café was okay. Rooms are clearly labeled, making navigation simple. If using a paper ticket, hold onto it—it’s easy to exit accidentally and need it to re-enter.
