Al Mujib Dam: A Marvel of Engineering in Jordan
Located in Wadi Mujib, between the cities of Madaba and Kerak in the Madaba Governorate of Jordan, the Al Mujib Dam is a rolled concrete dam with abutments of clay-core rockfill. It stands 67 meters high, spans 764 meters in length and it has a volume of 660,590 cubic meters.
The dam creates the Mujib Reservoir, which has a total capacity of 35 million cubic meters. The reservoir primarily supplies water to Amman, located 100 kilometers to the north, helping to ease a very stressed national water supply.
The Al Mujib Dam project was launched by His Majesty King Abdullah II with the aim of securing irrigation water for the agricultural lands and providing water to tourism resorts and investment projects on the eastern shore of the Dead Sea.
