Lingyin Temple is a sacred place that offers everything in one, especially for those seeking blessings of good fortune, financial success, smooth careers, and good health. It features the Goddess of Mercy (Guan Yin), love, and children. There are also cave carvings of Buddha images located in the Feilaifeng Cliff area. The atmosphere is serene, and the temple has many attractions, including hiking to the Buddha image, and a large prayer hall with a stream flowing in front of the main hall where Chinese people fill bottles to wash their hands and faces. The most popular carving is the Maitreya Buddha, the largest of its kind. For those interested in amulets, necklaces, and bracelets, many are available here, some of which are very famous. I’m not sure if it was just me or the fact that I only skimmed a few guides but I had a surprisingly hard time getting to Longjing Village in Hangzhou. Hopefully, this saves you the trouble. The mistake: We took a Didi and selected “Longjing Village” as the destination. That dropped us near an entrance, but not the right one. Amaps showed several saved locations like “Inquiring about the tea at Dragon Well” from other guides pointing in opposite directions. AI also gave me a different route … straight into a forest and hiking area. In the rain. Yes, I got lost. And yes, I earned a few mosquito bites. The fix: The correct location to enter into Amaps or Didi is: “Longjingcun” (Longjing Village). That’s the actual area with the tea fields you want to see. Once you arrive: You’ll see a gate (first photo in my album—imagine it here). Walk straight in and just follow the path. You’ll hit the tea fields quickly. It really is that easy. I just made it hard by overcomplicating the maps and trusting bad AI advice. Luckily I met some other tourist at some point that were also confused but we managed to find it at the end. So overall: Search Longjingcun, not Longjing Village. Go through the gate. Follow the path. Enjoy the tea fields. Avoid rain and mosquitoes.

It’s the kind of shock you get when 150 acres of lotus bloom all at once, and standing by the lake, your face is overwhelmed by the floral scent. This year, the peak bloom across West Lake falls in mid-July. I purposely chose this window to catch the fullest, most vibrant state. The entire Beili Lake and Xili Lake are layered with pink and green, and I personally witnessed the truth of Yang Wanli’s poem. 🌸 When it comes to enjoying lotus flowers, timing matters more than location From 6:30 AM to 8:00 AM, rush to Quyuan Fenghe. Fewer people, soft light, and lotus flowers fresh with morning dew at their most upright and spirited. The phrase “hundreds of acres of lotus ponds” is no marketing exaggeration. Red and white lotuses bloom together, with heavy-stage lotus and golden-sprinkled lotus hiding in corners. Every shot is wallpaper-worthy. The third West Lake Lotus Exhibition started in late June and runs through mid to late August, with displays all along the lake, so you’ll come across them as you walk. After 9 AM, the sun gets harsh, so head to Su Causeway. The 2.8 km-long causeway is lined with huge trees whose shade makes it feel 4 to 5 degrees cooler than outside. The lake breeze carries moisture, so it doesn’t feel like the peak of summer heat. ⚡ Here’s the essential info ① West Lake is free and open all day, no reservation needed. Just walk in. But the Three Pools Mirroring the Moon boat ticket + admission is 55 yuan, Leifeng Pagoda is 40 yuan and must be booked online in advance, and Yuewang Temple is 25 yuan. ② Exit Longxiang Bridge Station on Metro Line 1 at Exit C, then walk 7 to 8 minutes to the lakeside core area. You can book up to 7 days ahead. 🍃 The right way to spend the afternoon to evening Exit Su Causeway at the south end to reach Huagang Guanyu, free to enter, where koi are so dense it looks like they’re falling like dumplings. Turn east along Nanshan Road into Taiziwan Park. In summer, Taiziwan is vibrantly green, and lying on the lawn feels better than an air-conditioned room. Plus, the crowds are just a fraction of what you find at Broken Bridge. After 5:30 PM, go to Liulang Wenying to grab a spot and wait for sunset. Those few minutes when the lake turns orange-pink and the distant mountains become silhouettes make you forgive all the little hassles in life. 🏡 The place I stayed that night was the biggest surprise of the trip. Turning off Hupao Road onto the mountain road toward Manjuelong, after several twists and turns, everything suddenly quieted down. A three-story low building nestled under the tree canopy, the whole courtyard wrapped tightly by the South Gaofeng mountain and layers of greenery. Only 17 rooms. Opening the window, you face tea hills and misty ridgelines. The interior is all warm wood tones, with amenities scented with a deep, high-end sandalwood fragrance. Even the drinking water is mountain spring water drawn from Hupao. At night, there’s no sound except insects and the rustling of wind through treetops. It feels like the world has paused. Waking up the next day, you feel fully recharged. 📌 A few last words before you go July days in Hangzhou can really hit 35 degrees or higher, but by the lake, on shaded paths, and in the evening, the feel is completely different. Walking along the famous Su Causeway in total quiet, I watched the ink-wash mountain silhouettes slowly emerge as the first brilliant ribbons of amber and rose pierced the morning horizon. As the sun crested the surrounding hills, its golden rays danced across the rippling surface of the lake, igniting the weeping willows and classic arched stone bridges in a breathtaking display of morning light that felt straight out of a classical Chinese scroll painting. I never saw any great sunrise anywhere like this. By arriving well before sunrise, I skipped that frantic rush entirely. Standing quietly near the Broken Bridge (Duanqiao) as the dawn light illuminated the mist floating off the water provided a deeply serene, poetic connection to a landscape that has inspired poets and emperors for over a thousand years. I head to the Su Causeway or the edge of Quyuan Garden at first light to capture the famous reflections of the morning sun without crowds blocking your view. West Lake is celebrated for its "Ten Scenes of West Lake"; keep an eye out for stone steles marking historic poetic spots like Melting Snow at Broken Bridge or Viewing Fish at Flower Pond. Exit from metro line 1 Longxiangqiao station at exit C to reach the lakeside directly. It’s best to arrive at Broken Bridge before 7 AM when there are fewer people and the lighting is good. Core route: metro station → Liulang Wenying → Qianwangci dock for boat → Three Pools Mirroring the Moon → Huagang Fish Viewing → Leifeng Pagoda → electric cart → Broken Bridge. Liulang Wenying (free, 7:00–8:00) Exit metro line 1 Longxiangqiao at exit C, then walk about 15 minutes to Liulang Wenying. Formerly the royal garden of the Southern Song dynasty, it’s open 24 hours for free. Walk along the lake with willows brushing the water, few people in the early morning. Spend 20–30 minutes here. Three Pools Mirroring the Moon (boat ticket + island admission combo 55 yuan) Walk from Liulang Wenying to Qianwangci dock and take the state-run painted boat to the island. 55 yuan includes round-trip boat ticket and island admission. Children under 1.2 meters are free. Bring a 1 yuan bill; the back shows the Three Pools Mirroring the Moon. Spend 40–60 minutes on the island. Boats run every 20–30 minutes. Huagang Fish Viewing (free, 9:30–10:30) Get off the boat at Huagang Fish Viewing dock and spend 30–40 minutes here. The red fish pond is full of koi; kids with fish food can stay for a long time. Great spot to photograph the reflection of Leifeng Pagoda. Leifeng Pagoda (40 yuan, 10:30–11:30) Walk 10 minutes from Huagang Fish Viewing to Leifeng Pagoda. Adult ticket is 40 yuan. It’s better to visit after 4:30 PM to watch the sunset. Elevator goes straight to the top for a panoramic view of West Lake. Children under 1.2 meters are free. Take electric cart to Broken Bridge (11:30–12:00) After Leifeng Pagoda, hail the green vintage-style electric cart. Fare is charged by segment: 10 yuan per segment, or 40 yuan for a full loop ticket. The cart runs clockwise only. The ride to Broken Bridge costs about 10–20 yuan. Broken Bridge Remnant Snow (free, 12:00–12:30) The meeting place of Lady White Snake and Xu Xian. The most classic photo spot at West Lake. It’s best to come before 7:30 AM; it gets crowded during the day. Spend 30 minutes taking photos then leave. Money-saving tips All scenic areas around West Lake are free. The Three Pools Mirroring the Moon boat ticket costs 55 yuan (round trip + island admission). Leifeng Pagoda ticket is 40 yuan and optional. Electric cart fares are 10 yuan per segment or 40 yuan for the full loop. If you don’t want to pay for the cart, walk along Su Causeway and Bai Causeway for free. Practical advice Exit metro line 1 Longxiangqiao at exit C, don’t drive.
