I really wanted to go to California Disneyland for its 70th anniversary. Unfortunately, neither my friends nor family could make it, so I went alone! On the first day, after work, I flew from Haneda Airport to Los Angeles Airport on American Airlines. Nothing particularly impressive happened, and I was so tired that I slept soundly without watching any movies. I had pre-booked a transfer from the airport to the hotel with Trip, so after clearing immigration and picking up my luggage, I followed the directions to the parking space. I considered Uber and Lyft, but the price difference wasn't significant, so I chose Trip as it involved less travel within the airport. I felt at ease communicating smoothly with the driver via chat. He was a very kind and friendly young man; he let me use the charging port in the car and even let me select my favorite music on Spotify. I had a great time on the way to the hotel. The journey took about an hour and a half. The car was very clean and comfortable. I gave him some Japanese sweets as a tip, and he was very happy. To prevent jet lag, I didn't take a nap. After checking in and doing some light unpacking, I went to Downtown Disney. I couldn't resist and bought a lot of merchandise on the first day, which turned out to be a great decision. It seems they don't restock the goods very often, so even on the last day, some items were out of stock or I couldn't find the perfect size! I returned to the hotel early to prepare for the next day, ate the food I brought from Japan, and went to bed. To save money, I brought: · Packaged rice · Side dishes to heat up · Soup · Japanese tea · A portable kettle, essential for overseas travel, came in handy again this time. Today, I'm introducing "Pink's Hot Dogs," a major tourist spot near Hollywood in Los Angeles, USA! Though it's in the Hollywood area, it's actually a bit of a walk from the main Hollywood hub (around the TCL Chinese Theatre)—about 30 minutes on foot💦 I got there just after 12:30 PM and waited in line for about 20 minutes before ordering! It's a super popular spot, so I definitely recommend factoring in some extra time for your visit. By the way, their hours are: Sunday – Thursday: 9:30 AM – 12:00 AM (Midnight) Friday & Saturday: 9:30 AM – 2:00 AM So they stay open pretty late! There’s plenty of seating on the premises, but it’s mostly outdoors! They do have tents set up, though, so you're covered from the sun. Sorry if the picture is a bit hard to see, but I went with the Chili Cheese Dog (around 1,300 yen)! I was a little worried it would be too big for just me, but that wasn't an issue at all—it was the perfect size for one person! The sausage was incredibly juicy and delicious, and the bun was way lighter than I expected! Needless to say, I scarfed it right down🫢 If you're ever in LA, you have to stop by and try these amazing hot dogs loved by so many celebrities!

Introducing other tourist spots in LA & honest reviews 👇 ✴︎ Griffith Observatory It's a great observation spot with a panoramic view of LA, but apparently the haze gets pretty bad during LA's dry season, so the daytime view was honestly a bit underwhelming. Lol It's probably best to visit during dusk or at night for the city lights 🌃 Alternatively, I heard the haze clears up during the day right after it rains 💡 　 ✴︎ Venice Beach & Venice Canals The Venice Canals were beautiful if the weather is nice! (Though the water quality itself isn't that great) And to be completely honest, Venice Beach doesn't have a vibe that's all that different from Santa Monica Beach. Lol It's worth going if you want to see the canals & the weather is good, but since getting there by rental bike or rideshare apps costs money, if you're on the fence about it, you might just want to skip it 🤔 ✴︎ Little Tokyo It's a solid choice if you want to see mural art of Shohei Ohtani or Luffy. But if you're not interested in those, I don't think it's an area you need to go out of your way to visit. (Plus, it's close to Skid Row, which isn't the safest area...) 　 ✴︎ Beverly Hills & Rodeo Drive Unless you want to visit filming locations of your favorite movies, love shopping, or want to take Instagrammable photos, there's a high chance you'll just be like, "Oh, so this is it," if you go. Lol The streets of Rodeo Drive are definitely lovely and pristine, but you can enjoy the palm tree vibe in other areas too, and the European-style buildings lack a solid feel and kind of look fake 😅 My dad and I, who aren't into shopping and dislike crowds, spent money to get there and didn't even stay for 30 minutes. Lol 📍Dataland A brand new art museum opening in Downtown in May 2026, fully utilizing AI to showcase AI art! I caught a glimpse of it on TV, and it looked incredibly fun! If you're planning a trip soon, I think it'd be a great idea to add this spot to your list of options! The area experiences four distinct seasons and sits at a high elevation, so it stays on the cooler side even in summer. I could take as many photos as I wanted! I recommend going early in the morning 🏃♀️ ↓ I strolled around the Beverly Hills area 🚗 This famous upscale residential area is a must-see ✨ ↓ I explored shops on Rodeo Drive! The upscale supermarket "EREWHON" is nearby, so I recommend trying the popular smoothie produced by Hailey Bieber! However, one drink costs over 3000 yen! 💴💦 ↓ Chinese Theatre It's fun to find the handprints and autographs of your favorite stars! 😆 There's a Ghirardelli chocolate shop and a $5 shop along the street, which is convenient for buying souvenirs! Ghirardelli chocolate had a wide variety of Disney collaboration goods! ↓ We didn't have time to go all the way to the Hollywood Sign, so we moved to a spot where we could see it. I recently went to the US for the first time in 10 years since the pandemic. I'd like to share my experience with the notoriously strict immigration process at Los Angeles Airport. To put it simply, I encountered a very kind immigration officer. When they realized I was Japanese, they became even more cheerful, friendly, and asked questions in simple English, allowing me to pass through incredibly quickly. I was so surprised—it was that easy! Perhaps it was because I greeted them at the beginning, made eye contact, and answered clearly and honestly, showing through my attitude that I was willing to communicate despite the language barrier. The questions I was actually asked included: · What was the purpose of your trip to the US? · Where are you staying? · How long are you staying? · Are you bringing in any food? · How much US dollar cash do you have? · How many people are traveling with you? These were common questions, so I had no trouble answering them. However, since I was traveling alone, I was terrified of being questioned...! Therefore, I researched as much information as I could from other travelers online and on social media, and prepared thoroughly beforehand. I printed out all the things I thought I might be asked about on paper—tickets for my sightseeing destinations, hotel address, return e-ticket, list of food I was bringing in, business cards, proof of my assets—and clutched them tightly to my passport, trembling with excitement! The Wi-Fi in the airport's entry area was surprisingly weak, and the staff were shouting at people not to use their phones, so I was glad I had my phone with me just in case. Also, I recommend the MPC lane! It was only about a third the length of the regular line, so I got through in about 30 minutes. However, I've heard that if you're not a first-time visitor to the US, you might be asked difficult questions or spoken to very quickly. Our first and last? Father-daughter overseas trip for two 🇺🇸 Watching baseball in LA ⚾️ Visiting Disney 🎠 Exploring National Parks 🏞️ The grand total was... 3,735,097 JPY! Flying round-trip in Business Class, splurging on great baseball seats per my dad's request, and paying for premium passes at Disney to skip the lines and relax... Because I was traveling with my elderly dad, we didn't skimp on transportation or hotels, so the total definitely added up. But... ・Booking cheap economy flights ・Bringing our own food and skipping the booze at the stadium ・Taking public transit like buses and the Metro during the day ・Adjusting the number of games and seat tiers to fit your budget ・Using long-distance buses for intercity travel If you stick to these tips, even on a budget of around 300k to 500k JPY, I honestly think you can easily pull off a 7 to 10-day trip 💡 That being said, my biggest takeaway this time was: "LA is kind of sketchy..." 🙄 Depending on the street, the vibe can be pretty rough even in broad daylight. There are people wandering around who look high and smell like weed, and you can hear random screaming in the downtown area at night... Not to mention the constant blaring of police sirens from morning till night. If the atmosphere can be that sketchy even near major tourist spots, I can't even imagine what those "absolute no-go" zones are like. I had to be way more on guard walking around here than I ever was in Europe 💦 Because of this, even if it costs a bit more, you absolutely need to carefully select your hotel's location and neighborhood. Frequent visits ensure you won’t miss anything! The garden has now transitioned from spring blooms to early summer, and every corner is colorful. ▷ Fig Grove A highlight of the Ficus collection is the Morton Bay fig grove, where these fig trees cover the area with a mass of tangled roots. In spring, colorful Clivia brighten the shaded understory of this grove. ▷ California Native Plants Planting California native plants in the garden has many benefits: they use less water; provide habitat and food for birds, bees, butterflies, and other wildlife; and display colorful flowers from spring to summer, with berries and seeds in fall and winter. Several garden areas feature California natives, mainly the greenhouse complex, Mediterranean Garden, and the landscaping around El Rincon Garden at the corner of Tram Road and Service Yard Road, marked by a rustic pergola. ▷ Desert Garden The Desert Garden includes cacti, euphorbias, aloes, and other succulents. This garden is an excellent display of specimens from the U.S., Africa, Mexico, and South America. ▷ Display Greenhouse The Display Greenhouse is open to the public daily from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Designed with a color palette ranging from warm to cool tones, inside you’ll find tropical plants such as adeniums, anthuriums, begonias, pineapples, carnivorous plants, cordylines, crotons, orchids, hoyas, and passionflowers. ▷ Poriah Garden This garden is established and maintained by the South Coast Chapter of the American Poriah Society, featuring many different species, varieties, and newly introduced cultivars. The overhead shade cloth filters strong sunlight, allowing purple and other shade-loving plants to thrive. ▷ Sensory Garden This garden encourages you to enjoy plants and flowers through smell, touch, sound, and sight. Plants are arranged on raised beds for easy touching and smelling. Individual plant tags indicate the sensory experience each plant offers. ▷ Japanese Garden / Koi Pond Garden The garden maintains bonsai displays by the South Coast Bonsai Society. Enjoy the calming sound of water and absorb the soft palette of evergreen shrubs around the koi pond. The stone lanterns were carefully crafted 200 years ago from Okazaki Stone in Okazaki Province, said to be the capital of Japanese stone craftsmanship. ▷ Mediterranean Garden The Mediterranean climate is unique, characterized by mild, cool, rainy winters and hot, dry summers, found in only five places worldwide: coastal California, the Mediterranean Basin, southwestern Australia, the southwestern tip of South Africa, and coastal Chile.
