Grand Palace right in Seoul

#seoul Great spot in the heart of the city right beside the City Hall Metro station . Despite its location, it seems to be one of the least busy of the palaces in Seoul. It's not as big as Changdeokgung or Gyeongbokgung, but it is very beautiful and its design is similar to the Forbidden City in Beijing. The changing of the guard that takes place at the gates of the palace is also very beautiful. it is definitely worth visiting there I can’t remember the ticket price but I remember it free entry if you wear the traditional Korean clothing.

#seoul Deoksugung palace is one of five royal palaces remained in Seoul. Deoksugung Palace means Palace of virtue and longevity. It is also the only palace that sits alongside a series of western style buildings that add to the uniqueness of the surrounding scenery. I was very surprised seeing western style buildings and korean trafitionsl style buildings inside the same palace. Deoksugung Palace is virtually two palaces in and it includes Korea’s first Western-style garden. Palace is not that big so you can freely visit it and have a walk during your day.

Besides other palaces in Seoul, Deoksugung also boasts itself as a wonderful spot for its autumn foliage. The stone wall alley beside the palace is extremely popular among tourists, locals and foreigners alike during autumn season as many flocked to that area to snap nice autumn pictures. #koreatrip was meant to be exploring historical place. Deoksugung is one of the palaces in Seoul with historical background and now inculde colonial building inside. Entrance fee is 1000 won, and if you are lucky, you can see when guards change shift. It's quite small and not so many things to see, but worth to pay for with so many spots to take a picture at. If you are alone, you can try selfie or ask some passerby to take picture of you as there are many instagrammable spots; but would be best if you have someone who can take a nice shot. 📝Korea Travel Notes Part18: Deoksugung Palace📝 🎞️🎞️🎞️🎞️ First of all, this Deoksugung Palace is not the one in Hangzhou, but the one in Seoul. It is the last palace of the Joseon Dynasty and the only palace in the five palaces of Seoul that combines Chinese and Western styles. The palace was built in 1592, and what we can see today is basically the rebuilt version around 1900-1910, which has been over a hundred years. 🖼️🖼️🖼️🖼️ The Western-style stone palace with the fountain lawn square in front of the gate really has the style of a European palace. The east wing is a history museum, and the west wing is a modern art museum. The history museum strictly controls the flow of visitors, and foreigners need to register and queue on site. If the quota is full, you can only queue for the next time slot. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to queue up this time😭. 📷📷📷📷 In addition, Deoksugung Palace also has night tour activities, which look very interesting. Unfortunately, I didn't catch up this time due to time reasons. Deoksugung Stonewall Road and Jeongdong-gil are connected, and this road is famous for being a beautiful road in downtown Seoul. In particular, Deoksugung Stonewall-gil and Jeongdong-gil on autumn days became more famous because they matched Lee Moon-se's song Gwanghwamun Sonata.

As a history enthusiast and a lover of travel, I couldn't resist the opportunity to visit Deoksugung Palace during my recent trip to Seoul. The palace is one of the "Five Grand Palaces" built during the Joseon Dynasty and is a testament to the rich history and architectural brilliance of that era. I was eager to share my thoughts and impressions of this stunning palace in the heart of Seoul. Stepping into Deoksugung Palace through the main entrance, Daehanmun Gate, I was immediately struck by the juxtaposition of the ancient palace complex against the modern cityscape. The tranquility of the palace grounds provided a welcome respite from the bustling city. Surrounded by ancient trees and stonewalls, it felt like I had traveled back in time to a bygone era. One of the most fascinating aspects of Deoksugung Palace is its unique blend of architectural styles. The palace complex houses both traditional Korean and Western-style buildings. The main palace building, Junghwajeon Hall, is an exquisite example of traditional Korean architecture. Its vibrant colors, intricate patterns, and multi-tiered roof reflect the artistic mastery of the Joseon Dynasty craftsmen. In contrast, Seokjojeon Hall is a neoclassical building that echoes the European architectural influence during the late 19th century. As I wandered through the palace grounds, I was captivated by the beauty of the royal gardens. The palace boasts an exquisite garden named Hamnyeongjeon Garden, which showcases a serene pond and pavilion. Here, I took the opportunity to sit down, relax, and absorb the tranquil atmosphere. The garden was a delightful surprise, as it felt like a secret oasis hidden amidst the palace complex. Guided tours are available in various languages, including English, Japanese, and Chinese. I opted for the English guided tour, which offered insightful information about the palace's history and the lives of the royal family. The knowledgeable guide also shared fascinating anecdotes about the palace, such as the tragic story of Queen Myeongseong, who was assassinated in 1895, and the tumultuous history of the palace during the Japanese colonization of Korea. During my visit, I was fortunate enough to witness the changing of the royal guard ceremony, which takes place three times a day at Daehanmun Gate. The reenactment features guards dressed in colorful traditional uniforms and offers a glimpse into Korea's royal past. It was a fantastic experience to see this spectacle unfold before my eyes, and I would highly recommend planning your visit to coincide with this ceremony. The Imperial Royalty Era

Did you know that the Deoksugung Palace was occupied by the Korea Imperial Royal Family until the early 1900s when the Japanese invaded the country. The palace is located near the city hall subway station. To get into the palace, the admission fee for adults is 5000 krw, and half price for your children. Everyday there would be a royal guard changing ceremony. The ceremony will last for an hour. Thrice daily, except Monday, or days where weather is extremely hot or cold. The ceremony begins with musical instruments played by the royal guards, followed by the exchange of passwords to proceed. Then the official marching change ceremony commences. 99, Sejong-daero, Jung-gu, Seoul I am so happy to reach the deoksugubg palace at the right time. They will have the changing parade ceremony every day at 11am, 2, and 5pm. The ceremony takes about half an hour. The place would be surrounded with tourists taking images. The ceremony is like going back to the past where the royals will perform the ceremony to protect the royal families. To get there, take the Anguk subway then leave at the third exit. A further few minutes walk will bring you to the palace. The admission fees is 1000 won for ages 17 and above. For kids age 7 to 18 the admission fees is 500 won. #bucketlistreboot
