I made a special trip to visit Odawara Castle, a legendary stronghold from the Sengoku period known for its impregnability. While the castle tower is a later reconstruction, the historical materials inside are substantial. Ancient documents and a sand table vividly recreate the Battle of Odawara, allowing you to imagine the 100-day siege by Toyotomi Hideyoshi's army. The top floor offers a panoramic view of Sagami Bay, with mountains and sea stretching out before you.
The entire castle is now a city park, quiet and not overcrowded. The stories of the five Hojo dynasties unfold quietly here, and the history of the "Odawara Pacification" evokes profound emotions. An hour is just right for exploring the castle tower, perfect for Sengoku history enthusiasts. Compared to the bustling Osaka Castle, this place possesses a more serene and profound atmosphere; standing by the walls, you can almost feel the last echoes of the Sengoku period in the Kanto region.
