Reviews: Swamp Boat Ride and Oak Alley Plantation Tour from New Orleans

We really enjoyed this tour! Our driver was great and she was able to manuever the bus in some really tough areas making it look easy. The bus was extremely clean. Our tour guide Robert was phenominal. He has a wealth of knowledge about Louisiana history, land and people, not to mention about New Orleans and the plantations in the area and kept us informed the entire trip. We really enjoyed Oak Alley Plantation and the time allotted was perfect. The swamp boat ride was very nice as well and we got to see several gators, which our guide said was surprising because it is the time of year when they are not as active. There were several raccoons and regrets as well. We highly recommend this tour.

Great excursion! Originally I booked with another company but saw that we had a little bit of a walk to the meeting spot so I rebooked with this company instead - pick up was right on time at our hotel and off we went to Oak Alley, which was a sugar plantation. We had enough time to do the house tour, view slave cabin exhibits, get some lunch and shop for souvenirs. This was the 3rd plantation I've been to, and while the oaks were absolutely breathtaking, the grounds were not as extensive as Mt Vernon in Virginia or Magnolia in Charleston - both those places you can spend a whole day bc there was so much to see. By comparison this was much much smaller. The next stop was the swamp tour - it was a blustery day so not much wildlife out except for various birds (bald eagle, heron, etc) and one small alligator. The highlight was Capt. Bobby (who was great) showing us his pet baby alligator and giving us all a chance to hold him and take pics! We also got to peek in the bayou which this tour company took Disney sketch artists to for Princess and the Frog inspiration! Lovely full day excursion and well organized - highly recommend!

Great tour guide, very informative. From our ride to the plantation and transfer to the swamp tour everyone was very pleasant. We had enough time to explore on our own and the tour guide was very informative and patient. Group size was perfect.

We had a great experience visiting Oak Alley Plantation, and a big part of it was thanks to our driver, Kin. Originally from New Orleans, he shared a lot of knowledge about the city’s history during the drive and gave us excellent recommendations for places to visit and restaurants to try. He was truly great and very professional. I highly recommend him! His vehicle was also very comfortable, which made the trip even more enjoyable. As for Oak Alley itself, the visit is interesting for anyone who wants to see the inside of a former slaveholder’s house, as both the mansion and the grounds are very well preserved. The guided tour of the house is paid, but access to the gardens and the former slave quarters is free. If your main interest is learning more about the lives of enslaved people, I would recommend visiting Whitney Plantation instead, as it offers a deeper and more focused perspective on that history.
