Day 1 Barcelona - Girona - Figueres - Barcelona

Trip Overview

Depart from Barcelona in the morning and head to Girona. Nestled at the foot of the Pyrenees, Girona's old town is located on the right bank of the Onyar River, featuring a concentration of vibrant, colorful houses that transport visitors back to the Middle Ages. The Onyar River flows gently by the old town, its shallow waters so clear that fish swimming beneath the surface are easily visible. The river's crystal-clear surface reflects the kaleidoscope of houses along its banks, creating the illusion of a magical underwater world.

After lunch, depart from Girona and head to the city of Figueres to visit the Dalí Theatre and Museum (at your own expense), also known as the "Museum of Memory." Dalí himself referred to it as a "surrealist world," constantly astonishing visitors with the whimsical fantasies of his art. Even from its exterior, the museum showcases Dalí's eccentricity. The top features a massive glass dome surrounded by numerous upright or overturned eggs and interspersed with androgynous sculptures. Inside, the museum houses countless paintings from various stages of Dalí's career, including astonishing works such as "The Persistence of Memory," "The Hallucinogenic Toreador," and "Metamorphosis of Narcissus." Beyond paintings, the collection also includes sculptures, jewelry, and furniture designed by Dalí.

After the tour concludes, return to Barcelona to complete the journey.

Dalí Theatre and Museum

Salvador Dalí, a Spanish surrealist painter and printmaker, was renowned for his exploration of subconscious imagery and was an artist of extraordinary talent and imagination. The Dalí Theatre and Museum is the world's largest museum dedicated to surrealist paintings, housing Dalí's artworks, sculptures, installations, even an animated film collaboration with Disney, as well as his personal collections. Remarkably, the adjacent standalone building houses the Dalí Jewels exhibition, designed by architect Oscar Tusquets. This permanent exhibition features 39 pieces of jewelry designed by Dalí between 1941 and 1970, crafted from gold and various precious stones including red coral. The display follows the exact same arrangement as Dalí's original exhibition for Owen Cheatham, and includes 27 original sketches by the artist.
