Don't be scared by the name, because in the Barranco del Infierno (Hell's Canyon), there's no lava, sulfur, or little devils with pitchforks trying to poke you while you rappel. It's a dry and tortuous canyon where the use of ropes is required to conquer it successfully.
Description
Location of Barranco del Infierno
The access to Barranco del Infierno is located in the rural village of Vall de Ebo, which is inland and very close to Dénia. To get there, you need to take the road towards Pego and then the CV-712 road until you reach the village. You can also meet in Pego to travel together to the canyon's access point.
If you plan to make a rural getaway, not far from there is Benimaurell and the famous "Catedral del Senderismo" (Cathedral of Hiking), a route with more than 6,800 stone steps that you can explore leisurely while enjoying nature. You'll also find places to stay overnight.
The Barranco del Infierno
The Barranco del Infierno is a dry and narrow canyon, featuring tall white stone walls that reflect light in an almost magical way. This makes it the perfect place to capture stunning photos to keep a lasting memory of your adventure.
It's important to distinguish the Barranco del Infierno from the Catedral del Senderismo, as these two routes are often confused. The canyon is a vertical adventure full of adrenaline, descents, and rappels, whereas the Cathedral of Hiking takes a different path that borders the canyon but doesn't involve the same activity.
Although the canyon is usually dry, in periods of heavy rain it can fill with water. This makes the experience much more spectacular, although the water in the Barranco del Infierno typically only lasts for about a week. If the conditions are right and you'd like to experience it with water, feel free to call us.
Whether you explore it dry or with water, Barranco del Infierno is iconic not only in Alicante but also throughout Spain. Experiencing it in both forms will make your adventure even more incredible, but to find it with water, you'll have to wait for certain times of the year.
