Except for a few, such as Wakayama Ancient City, you need to exchange tickets in advance at the tourist service center near the JR station (the only pitfall we encountered), most other attractions can be directly scanned, which is quite cost-effective.

We paired the pass with a Suica card for JR lines and airport transfers, which worked well.
