Reviews: Explore Essaouira on a Day Trip from Marrakech

The trip was great and our guide Hussein was very kind. He provided information during the trip ad was caring about our needs. We had the opportunity to do small tours during the trip with Hakim and Yousef, and had the chance to interact with some local artists. Everyone was nice and friendly. The Sahara desert view was amazing, the camp had good conditions, and the Atv experience was on top (not included)

I would highly recommend this trip — it was exceptionally well organized! Both Said and Jamal were wonderful throughout the experience. Said, in particular, was an outstanding guide: well-spoken, courteous, and fluent in both French and English. He went above and beyond by helping me with my heavy luggage and even assisted me in finding my Riad, which was not part of the planned itinerary. He is truly a respectful and kind gentleman. I especially recommend this trip with Jamal and Said for solo travelers visiting Morocco for the first time — they make you feel very safe and well cared for.

Essaouira is one of Morocco’s most relaxed and characterful coastal cities—a place where history, ocean air, and a laid-back rhythm come together effortlessly. The Beach Essaouira’s wide, sandy beach stretches for miles and is almost always breezy. It’s ideal for long walks, watching camels and horses trot along the shore, or simply sitting with the sound of the Atlantic rolling in. Unlike busier Moroccan beaches, it never feels crowded or chaotic. Surfing & Kitesurfing The constant trade winds make Essaouira a hotspot for kitesurfing and windsurfing, with conditions that are especially good for beginners and intermediates. Surfing is also popular—there are consistent waves just south of town at spots like Sidi Kaouki, while Essaouira itself offers more forgiving beach breaks. Surf schools and rental shops are everywhere, making it easy to jump in even if you’ve never tried before. The Medina (UNESCO World Heritage Site) Essaouira’s medina is refreshingly calm compared to places like Marrakech or Fes. The narrow streets are easy to navigate, shopkeepers are generally friendly without being pushy, and the white-and-blue architecture gives the whole area a coastal, almost Mediterranean feel. It’s a perfect place to wander without a plan, stopping for coffee, art galleries, or local crafts. The Fish Market & Port The port is raw, lively, and authentic. Blue fishing boats crowd the harbor, fishermen unload their catch, and seagulls hover everywhere. At the fish market, you can choose fresh seafood—sardines, calamari, shrimp, lobster—and have it grilled on the spot. It’s simple, messy, and delicious, and one of the most memorable experiences in the city. The Old Fort (Skala de la Kasbah) The old fortifications overlooking the ocean are iconic. Walking along the Skala de la Kasbah, with its historic cannons pointed toward the Atlantic, offers dramatic views of crashing waves and rocky islands offshore. It’s especially beautiful at sunset, when the light hits the walls and the sea turns deep gold and blue. Overall Feel Essaouira is unpretentious, artistic, and deeply relaxing. It’s the kind of place where you come for a couple of days and end up staying longer—perfect for travelers who want culture, ocean energy, and calm all in one place.
