The tour guide was great, very knowledgeable and friendly. The Samurai Kay was also really nice and we learned a lot. Thank you so much!

It was a great tour with a small group. The guide, Tim, was well versed with the area and local customs and was able to answer all questions thrown at him.

Tom is an exceptional guide, living in Japan since maybe years. The tour was very instructive and you can ask all your questions about Japan to Tom, he will always have interesting details and stories to share with you, which will help you to understand better the local habits and the way Japan is today. Matsumoto castle is as well one of the kind and we loved the local market streets there. Was overall an amazing afternoon we will remember as a lovely part of our honeymoon.

The view is surreal! We enjoy traveling to shirakawago during winter. The tour guide is very helpful and at the same time kept us updated on the time alloted. Recommended!
Reviews: Nagoya to Shirakawa-go & Hida Takayama: UNESCO Heritage 1-Day Tour

The overall itinerary was somewhat rushed due to Japanese driver service time regulations. The Takayama leg of the trip was particularly tight, mainly because completing a meal and a full visit to the Takayama Jinya (traditional Japanese houses) within two hours was quite strenuous. Two hours was more than enough for the Shirakawa-go Gassho-zukuri village. The tour guide was very professional and nice, and his explanations were quite interesting. The group members came from all over the world, with mainland Chinese tourists making up about 10%, making it a very international team.
Reviews: [Small group option for 9 people] Nagoya Hidakochi & Shirakawa-go day tour from Japan
Guest User2026-02-21
I made a reservation around 8 PM the night before departure, and it was confirmed quickly. Our guide, Lin Ho, provided thorough and detailed explanations (consecutive explanations in four languages: Japanese, Korean, English, and Chinese, and the Korean explanations were particularly fluent and thorough). We left at 9 AM, and due to road conditions, we went to Shirakawa-go first before heading to Takayama. We stayed in Shirakawa-go for about an hour and a half (please note that this tour does not include the observatory; a 30-minute round trip walk from Shirakawa-go is sufficient). We stayed in Takayama for about two hours, and arrived at Nagoya Station around 7:10 PM. I didn't have high expectations, but it was a great way to experience the atmosphere of a mountain village and a small inland town. Although I made the reservation on short notice, I think it was a satisfying and fulfilling trip.
