Itinerary
Discover the essence of Matsumoto on this immersive full-day cultural tour through central Japan’s hidden gems.
Begin your journey with a convenient pickup from Nagano Station (8:00 AM / 8.5 hrs) or Matsumoto Station (9:30 AM / 6.25 hrs), depending on where you’re staying. You may also finish the tour at either station—whichever suits your onward plans. Luggage is accepted only for one-way transfers between Nagano and Matsumoto (advance notice required). Please tell us the number of pieces and approximate sizes. Vehicle space is limited, but standard suitcases and carry-ons can be accommodated.

Your first stop is the awe-inspiring Matsumoto Castle—an original 16th-century wooden fortress known as the “Crow Castle” for its striking black walls. Step into the world of samurai as you climb its steep stairways, admire panoramic views from the top, and hear stories of feudal lords and clever wartime defenses. It’s one of Japan’s most iconic castles, and a designated national treasure.

Next, dive into the flavors of tradition with a visit to a 150-year-old miso brewery. Join a behind-the-scenes tour led by the makers themselves and learn how miso is still crafted using age-old fermentation methods. Afterward, enjoy a freshly prepared onigiri lunch with miso soup—simple, hearty, and deeply local.

Then, breathe in the beauty of the countryside at Daio Wasabi Farm, the largest wasabi farm in Japan. Walk along serene spring-fed canals, take photos of the iconic waterwheels and lush green fields, and try local specialties like wasabi croquettes or soft-serve ice cream. You’ll have time to shop for unique wasabi-based souvenirs, too.

In the afternoon, unwind at a peaceful vineyard in Azumino, where you’ll sample a selection of locally produced Japanese wines. Surrounded by alpine peaks and rice paddies, this quiet countryside tasting offers a moment of reflection and flavor far from the tourist crowds.

Finally, end your day with a visit to the world-renowned Japan Ukiyo-e Museum, home to the largest private collection of traditional woodblock prints. In a calm, gallery-like setting, admire timeless works by masters like Hokusai and Hiroshige, and gain a deeper appreciation for the artistic soul of Japan.
