Reviews: From Chiang Mai: Chiang Rai's Temples Exploration Day Trip
Guest User2026-01-11
Incredibly long drive. Tiring in a small minibus, but we got through it. Luckily we had a couple of stops on the trip where we could stretch our legs a bit. The temples were incredibly beautiful, so it was worth the trip anyway. Our guide, whose name was Toy, was incredibly nice and funny. A slightly older Thai lady with a twinkle in her eye, couldn't have asked for a better guide. Just keep in mind that the temples are packed, so it's hard to get cool Instagram photos 😅 The white temple was without a doubt my highlight. The chapel had lots of cool motifs with Spider-Man, various Pokémon and other cool characters from the world of games and movies. And once you're there, walk through the cave. There are also lots of references from movies like Avengers and e.g. The Mask 🤩

It’s a long way & a long day out; but our guide Jackie was engaging & informative throughout the trip. We had plenty of toilet stops. Coffee breaks and time for lunch. The temples are worth seeing. However… The temples are not historic , they are all built this century . The white temple makes stunning photos though in close up it’s like a Disney set & I believe it’s more of a tourist attraction than a place of worship. Having said all of this I really enjoyed my day out. The golden toilet block is something else!

We had an incredible time on our private tour with Poon! He was so friendly and knowable and taught us a lot about both the meaning behind the temples and their history. He let us take our time and took lots of pictures for us. Poon also had great recommendation of things to do around Chiang Mai. Admission fee and lunch is included in the price of the tour so unless you buy souvenirs or drinks/snacks you don’t need any extra cash for the trip. There was also cold water provided for us which was great for when it started to get hot!

Excellent tour, I loved everything. The only unpleasant thing was that after the hot springs, they took me to Karen Village, which wasn't on the itinerary, and asked me to pay a 300 baht entrance fee. Everything else was on the itinerary and there were no extra charges. Meals were free at the buffet.

Thank you to both the translator and driver for making this a great trip. The trip was worth every 🪙. Just be mindful of lunch time there will be Many other groups wrestling to and over the food.

The vehicle was a Toyota van. The tour accommodated 12 passengers, plus the guide and driver, for a total of 14 people. I participated alone, but the others were in groups of two or more. I've traveled to Chiang Mai several times, but I'd always wanted to visit Chiang Rai. This time, I saw an affordable tour from Trip.com and immediately signed up. Chiang Rai is about 190km from Chiang Mai on regular roads, which is quite a long way. The road passes through mountainous areas, with many curves and I almost got carsick, but I managed to get there. While road widening work is being done along the way, many narrow sections mean that this tour may not be recommended for those who are not comfortable with long car rides. Nearly 70% of the tour was the round-trip time, including breaks. The guide used AI to efficiently navigate each spot, making sightseeing at each one a smooth experience. The tour included entrance fees and lunch, making it a great value. I recommend it for those looking for an efficient trip to Chiang Rai. For lunch, we had a Thai buffet at a restaurant near White Temple. The hotel pick-up service in the morning is also very convenient.
