Explore over 100 points of interest, including iconic landmarks, picturesque streets, hidden gems and vibrant areas that reflect the city’s rich cultural heritage, timeless beauty and stunning city views and riverside scenery.

This tour covers 5.5 km and the route is easy to follow, with one short uphill section early on (400m at a 16% slope) leading to the stunning Vitória Belvedere.
Short on time? Two shortcuts are marked on the map: skip the Aliados and Bolhão area to save 1.3 km, or bypass the medieval quarter loop to cut 300 meters.

The route is circular, and you may start from any nearby point of interest. If you do, please walk clockwise so the route notes (e.g. “Take a right at the next intersection”) match your direction.

Your walking tour begins and ends at Ribeira Square, where charming medieval houses perched on granite arches overlook stunning views of the Douro River. From here, the route follows the river westward, passing the picturesque Bacalhoeiros Wall before reaching Porto’s majestic Gothic gem, São Francisco Church.
Next, you’ll explore the ornate Bolsa Palace and take a short detour to the lively São Domingos Square. Then, ascend to the breathtaking Vitória Belvedere for panoramic city views. The path continues to the Cordoaria district, home to the iconic Clérigos Tower and the famous Lello Bookstore.
A brief walk brings you to the beautifully tiled Carmo Church, before heading to Aliados Avenue and Porto’s bustling commercial heart, including the vibrant Bolhão Market and lively Santa Catarina Street lined with traditional and modern shops. The tour then leads you to the stunning São Bento railway station, famed for its exquisite tilework.
From there, ascend to Porto’s historic hilltop, visiting the impressive Sé Cathedral and the Episcopal Palace and wander through the medieval quarter, all while enjoying sweeping panoramic views from various belvederes. Finally, descend back to Praça da Ribeira via the medieval staircases of Verdades and Barredo, stepping back in time to complete your journey.
