Reviews: Fez Cooking Class

This cooking class was a highlight. It's a unique and relaxing break from the typical tours in Morocco. held in a beautiful location that makes it feel homey and relaxing. Attending the market with a local was enjoyable and fun to witness. The meals we cooked were tasty and we had so much fun. We learned how to make delicious Moroccan food, including chicken Tagine and eggplant salad! Thank you!

I have visited Palais Amani a number of times and love the hotel and food. On this visit I booked the cooking class and had a great time. I joined a couple of groups and they made me a single traveller very welcome. We walked around the medina buying our food, stopping off for tasty snacks and of course mint tea. Then back to the hotel and cookery school to be taught how to make aubergine dip, chicken tagine (though you could choose to make a vegetarian tagine) and then a delightful dessert. A great way to see the medina and learn to cook new food. Next trip I think I will try the baking class.

Our best meal of the trip was the one we made at this cooking class at Riad Hayat Fes! When we arrived, we were served mint tea and asked which of half a dozen or so main dishes we wanted to cook. Each person was able to choose what they wanted to prepare. (They were able to accommodate with a gluten-free option for one person who has celiac disease.) Imad and Hannah were great hosts and translated when Hanna's mother, the chef extraordinaire, gave instructions. We wrote down the recipes for everything we made and can't wait to try to recreate the dishes (especially maalouk and chicken tagine with prunes) at home. One note: the description says that guests will go shopping in the market for ingredients, but that was not the case for us. The description also says that dessert is part of the meal, but no dessert was served. Not complaining -- we had spent hours in the market prior to the cooking class and we were full from the meal so didn't want dessert -- just clarifying so others don't expect this!

This is by far one of my favorite things we did in Morocco. The whole family was kind and patient with us cutting the vegetables and showing us step by step how to make the Tagine. They made us feel included and answered all our questions. It was also fun to taste various foods and drinks in the market/medina while picking out the fresh fruits and veggies to cook!! It was a lovely home and amazing people!!!

This was an authentic family experience as I was welcomed into this home and cooked and conversed with the family. The cous cous that we cooked was superb, and it was followed by excellent mint tea and cookies. I greatly enjoyed learning more about Moroccan culture, and definitely enjoyed the food
