Reviews: [Official ticket] JR Pass Takayama & Hokuriku area rail pass 5-day (free SF Express shipping/Akihabara pickup)
Guest User2025-09-06
This positive review is for Ctrip, not the product itself. The JR pass itself isn't the problem; it covers JR, Shinkansen, and buses. However, not all service personnel from these three companies are familiar with the pass's coverage. On our trip from Shirakawa to Kanazawa, we encountered a Nohi Bus driver who wouldn't accept our tickets and reservation number. I provided the reservation number and phone booking information, and although the driver had our names recorded in his booking book, he didn't accept it and still insisted we buy tickets to board. This was the last bus from Shirakawa to Kanazawa that day: 17:55, while station staff had already left at 17:30. Without any customer service, the driver demanded we buy tickets, otherwise he wouldn't let us board. Because we hadn't booked accommodation in Shirakawa, we had no choice but to buy tickets on the bus. That same day, I contacted Ctrip with relevant proof, requesting an explanation and solution from the supplier. After a long ten-day wait, during which the supplier raised countless seemingly legitimate but ultimately evasive questions: incorrect train number, incorrect booking name, requiring on-site resolution... I provided corresponding evidence for each of these points, and Ctrip customer service negotiated and understood the situation multiple times. Ultimately, I believe Ctrip helped cover the cost. I deeply appreciate and acknowledge the responsible attitude of the Ctrip team in resolving the issue. However, I would like to offer an objective evaluation of my experience with this product: This trip was Nagoya-Takayama-Shirakawa-Kanazawa-Nagoya, a five-day trip. For this route, the cost difference between buying individual tickets and using a JR Pass is minimal. For the Kanazawa-Nagoya leg, you can transfer at Tsuruga, and the JR Pass can also be used for the Tsuruga-Nagoya leg. It's recommended to redeem the six reserved seats on the train one day in advance. If you also plan to visit Toyama and Osaka, the ticket price is reasonable, but visiting so many places in five days would be a rushed experience. This ticket is more convenient for trains than buses, as buses require phone reservations, which carries the risk of information entry errors (mine was missing a letter in my name). However, I also saw people using their phones to provide reservation information on-site; I'm not sure which website they used. This is the longest review I've ever written, and it ultimately met my expectations. However, compared to buying it separately, the cost-effectiveness is obvious, considering the time and effort involved.

This trip didn't really pay off, but the pass itself was convenient. When picking up your ticket at Shin-Osaka Station, be careful to distinguish between JR Tokai and JR West.
Reviews: JR Hokuriku Area Pass 4-Day (e-ticket)

For a trip to Hokuriku, this ticket price is well worth it. I only used it for 2.5 days and it was worth the price. The only problem is that going to Takaoka is frustrating. You have to go back to Shin-Takaoka Station and transfer to another train to use it. Also, you can't use the local trains. But it's very convenient for the Shinkansen between cities.
