It's convenient to rent a phone for a couple of days upon arrival, so you can easily call a taxi and do whatever you need to do, and then buy a local SIM card. One phone had two SIM cards, an e-SIM and a local SIM card. The e-SIM coverage in Bali was sometimes worse than the local SIM card, but not critical.★

I'm loving these eSims. It makes life so much easier. No need to remove a plastic sim card just to add a temporary one. The first time I used one, it was my husband that bought it and helped me install it. It was a bit tricky but the second time I bought another one myself and installed the app it was MUCH easier.
