Reviews: Bruges and Ghent - Belgium's Fairytale Cities - from Brussels

Certainly! Here’s a one-paragraph review: I recently joined a guided tour of Bruges and Ghent and had a great experience. The tour guide was knowledgeable and engaging, sharing fascinating insights into the history, architecture, and culture of both cities. Highlights included visits to the Markt and canals in Bruges and to Gravensteen Castle and St. Bavo’s Cathedral in Ghent, with plenty of interesting stories and recommendations for local food along the way. The tour was well-paced and made exploring both cities easy and enjoyable. I highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to get the most out of their visit to Bruges and Ghent.

I picked the tour on your own option. We met at the Pullman Bercy at 7am and departed at 7.15. It was a big coach, maybe half full? Seatbelts, recliners, clean and comfy. We stopped for 25 minutes after 2 hours for a loo and coffee break. We arrived at 11.20am and had to be back on the bus by 4.15pm so had nearly 5 hours of free time. We were dropped off at Bargeplain, the tourist car park at the end of the old town. There are toilets there (€1 per person, cards accepted). I walked first to the canal boat wharf and paid €15 for a 35 minute boat ride. Then I went to FritBar for a delicious vegan (beet) burger and the best frites I have ever had. After lunch I had 3 hours to visit churches (heard an organ rehearsal at the cathedral and Michelangelo’s Madonna & Child, and bought some chocolate (so many shops, no tastings offered). Another loo stop at the Bargeplain before our 4.15pm departure and we were off. A 25 minute break 2.5 hours into the ride home. we were back by 8.20pm.
