Shiquan River
Shiquan River, known in Tibetan as "Senge Zangbu," originates from a glacial lake north of Kangrinpoche, the main peak of the Gangdise Shan. It is the upper source of the Indus River and one of the major rivers in northwestern Tibet. Upon reaching Gar County, it enters a wide, open valley, where it converges with tributaries such as the Gar Zangbu and Langqu. It carves out a rare, moist oasis in the cold, arid desert of Ngari, and Shiquanhe Town is situated on this riverbank. Taking a walk in the evening, you can watch the sunset dye the water surface golden red. In the fall, the trees along the banks turn yellow early, and flocks of plateau waterbirds, such as ruddy shelducks and bar-headed geese, often rest on the river valley wetlands. The stretches of red willow thickets remain a signature sight along the river. Its basin lies deep in an arid, high-altitude region with little precipitation, so the water volume is not particularly abundant. However, it serves as a rare, stable water source in the heart of this plateau, nourishing the pastures and towns along its banks. Before sunset, the clouds on the horizon were gloomy and thick, and the wind blew their corners slightly, but could not push them forward. Shiquanhe is a literal translation of the Tibetan word "Sengge Zangbo". Several large mountain ranges converge here, with an altitude of 4,300 meters. It is the most lively and prosperous place in Ali region. There are taxis on the streets, and even long-lost traffic lights are on. Their appearance immediately shortens the distance between this desert town and the "civilized world".

Before we arrived at Shiquanhe Town, Ali, we were lucky to visit our own dark sky park. Because "dark sky park" is not a name, but a recognition. Only when the basic indicators such as atmospheric transparency, clear sky rate, night sky quality and seeing meet the standards can it be recognized as a "dark sky park" by the International Dark Sky Association. So you can imagine how difficult it is to find a place that can be recognized as a dark sky park in a country with rapid industrial and economic development.

The Xiangquan River is named after the valley at its source, which looks like an elephant's trunk. It is called "Langqin Zangbu" in Tibetan. It originates from Mentu Township, Gar County, flows westward through Zhada County and flows out of the country into India. The Xiangquan River flows through the Zhada Earth Forest, bringing vitality to this arid land.
