In the Han Dynasty, Suoyang City was the seat of Ming'an County in Dunhuang County. In the Western Jin Dynasty, it was Jinchang County. In the Sui Dynasty, it was Changle County. In the Tang Dynasty, it was Guazhou County. After experiencing wars, it was abandoned after the Ming royal family closed themselves off. The name of Suoyang City originated from the people in the Qing Dynasty. Because there were many delicious and sweet Cynomoriums around the city, later generations named it Suoyang City. The shape of Suoyang City preserves the typical style of ancient cities in the Tang Dynasty. There is a large temple in the northeast of the city, which was built in the Yuan Dynasty. The big tower is 14.5 meters high, and thousands of small towers are neatly arranged in a line. Suoyang City was once a large town on the throat of the Silk Road. It played a very important role in the ancient politics, economy, culture and military of Hexi. There was a large and very open oasis near the ancient Suoyang City, which was the link between Jiuquan County and the Western Regions. There are dozens of ancient cities, tombs, grottoes and temples around it, and the scale of preservation is particularly large in Suoyang City. Suoyang City has my country's well-preserved ancient military defense system and ancient farmland water conservancy irrigation system. It is divided into two cities, the outer city and the inner city, with a total area of 800,000 square meters. The northwest corner pier is 18 meters high, with ancient military facilities such as enemy towers and arenas. About 1 km east of Suoyang City, there is a forest of earthen towers, which is called Taer Temple by the locals. There are eleven large and small towers in Taer Temple. There is a large temple building base in the center of the temple. To the north is a 14.5-meter-high tower built with adobe and plastered with white lime. The top of the tower is a covered bowl structure, and the tower shape is solemn and majestic, very spectacular.Guazhou · 46.5 km from downtown

Son of the Earth is located on the Gobi Desert in Hongshanpo, Guazhou County. It is a large-scale outdoor themed sculpture made primarily of red sandstone, created using 3D scanning for model data and 3D carving, measuring approx. 15m long, approx. 4.3m high, and approx. 9m wide. Although Son of the Earth is a sculpture, it is not rigid. It looks like a real infant: with an adorable expression, eyes closed tight, and lying quietly, it sleeps as peacefully as a child nestled in its mother's arms. We humans are like children of Mother Earth, and we can only be this peaceful in her embrace. Therefore, the designer of this sculpture hopes to raise awareness about protecting the Earth through this artistic creation.Guazhou · 16.3 km from downtown

Yulin Grottoes are a part of Dunhuang Grottoes, carved before the Sui and Tang dynasties. The existing caves are from the Tang, Xixia, and Yuan dynasties. Yulin Grottoes share a lot with its sister Mogao Grottoes in content, artistic style, and painting form. Its value is mainly manifested in the exquisite murals, including Buddhas and Bodhisattva portraits, scenes of Buddhist stories, and a wide variety of flowers and beasts. Most of the murals are works made from a time stretching from the Tang Dynasty to the Yuan Dynasty. Some images are unique in these grottoes, such as the portrait of the military officers in the Xixia period, the Buddhist monk of Tang Dynasty going on a pilgrimage for scriptures, and so on.Guazhou · 52.8 km from downtown

Unbounded is located in Guazhou. It is a group of very creative sculptures. In the creation process of the sculptures, people used more than 6,000 scaffolds and about 3,000 fasteners. The Pochengzi site is located in the west of Changle Village, Suoyang Town, Guazhou County. The locals have always called it "Pochengzi" and "Changle City". The city wall of the Pochengzi site is built of rammed earth, with the north gate open and the city outside the gate. The east, south and west walls are well preserved, while the north wall was seriously damaged when the production team excavated the pad in the 1960s. Northeast corner pier standing surveying and mapping coordinates. There are two layers of cultural layers stacked in the city, including the collapsed houses, patterned bricks, red and stucco pottery pieces, yellow glazed porcelain pieces, and Kaiyuan Tongbao coins; the middle is the sedimentary layer of flowing water; Sand red pottery, Jomon pattern, water ripples, hanging tent pattern, additional pile pattern gray pottery pieces, bricks, animal bones, charcoal blocks, braised earth, etc. Judging from the superimposed relationship between the upper, middle and lower layers of the cultural layer and the sedimentary layer of sand and water, and the shape of the unearthed artifacts, the upper layer is the Tang culture layer and the lower layer is the Han culture layer: From 1968 to 1970, local people dug air-raid shelters outside the east wall of the city and found them From the brick chamber tomb, large Jomon pottery urns, water corrugated pots, pottery bottles, back pots, Ming pottery stoves, pottery spinning wheels, five baht coins, copper arrowheads, etc. were unearthed.Guazhou · 26 km from downtown

For a site dating back 1700 years, I highly recommend hiring a guide. Walking around and seeing everything at your own pace is truly breathtaking. The guide was very detailed, explaining everything from the city gates and the Qilian Mountains to the animals and plants, creating a sense of dialogue and allowing you to savor the experience. There's a shuttle bus within the scenic area that stops at various points; be prepared for wind and sun, as it's windy here year-round. Souvenirs and cultural products are available at the entrance.

There is a famous tourist attraction hidden in this Gobi Desert. A baby-like statue has become a popular check-in spot for internet celebrities. It looks like a baby sleeping on the ground. It was designed by a professor from the Tsinghua Academy of Fine Arts and took a year to complete. This lying sculpture is also known as the "Son of the Earth."

It’s a busy period and our driver tries to ensure all passengers are picked and sent back to our hotels or preferred destination along the way back. He also helped to purchase all attractions tickets and collect payment at the end of the trip which saved us a lot of hassle. A long and tiring trip but provided an opportunity to visit many attractions throughout.

【Pochengzi Site】 is located in the west of Changle Village, Suoyang Town, Guazhou County, Gansu Province. Locals call it "Pochengzi" and "Changle City". The Guazhou-Suoyang Town Highway passes from the west side of the site from north to south. According to the entry of Guangzhi County, Dunhuang County in "Han Shu·Geography" and Li Xian's note in "Hou Han Shu·Biography of Gaixun": "Guangzhi Ancient City is in Changle County, Guazhou today". On May 25, 2006, the State Council announced it as the sixth batch of national key cultural relics protection units.

The navigation is correct, and it is just over a kilometer away from the highway. The scenic area is not big, and it seems that it has not been developed yet. It is mainly an exhibition hall and the ruins of the ancient city. If you run fast, half an hour is enough. There is no parking lot in the scenic area, and you can park at an abandoned gas station opposite. When I came, there were no other tourists in the scenic area, only one staff member, who was very enthusiastic and turned on the lights in the exhibition hall for me to visit. The most impressive thing was that there was a Qing Dynasty mummy, which was quite scary. I didn't dare to take a photo.

Riding a camel across the desert allows you to truly experience the desolation of the desert and the resilience of the camels. Watching the caravans, you feel as if you were one of the merchants traveling the Silk Road in the past. Riding a camel is similar to riding a horse; you might feel a little nervous at first, but after a while, your body will move in sync with the rhythm of the camels, and everything will be fine.
