The canyons are twisted and winding, the river is green, the cliffs are steep, and the caves, stalagmites and stone pillars are densely covered. It is known as the “Little Xiaojiang River” of Beijing city. In spring and summer, the cool weather here enables people to enjoy the water and walk among the green. Xuankong Temple is located between the cliffs of Cuiping Peak in Jinlong Gorge, Hengshan. It was built in the Northern Wei Dynasty and has a history stretching longer than 1,500 years. It is a well-preserved high-altitude wooden cliff building in China. At the foot of Hengshan, from a distance, you can see the Hanging Temple suspended over the mountainside. The entire temple is hung on the steep cliff, skillfully utilizing and building into the concave and convex portions of the cliff, making it exceptionally staggered and yet rhythmic. Visitors walk along the wooden plank road suspended within the temple to feel the magical architectural charm of the Hanging Temple.China · Hunyuan

Tianmo Park is near Longbao Mountain in the southwest of the East Area in Huailai County. There is a large natural desert in the park and a golden sand dune between the mountains and rivers, which is especially spectacular. Hence, people call it Tianmo. Take a sand board and slide down the sand pile to experience childlike fun, or ride horses and camels and take a stroll in the Gobi Desert to enjoy the unique geographical environment. Ginkgo Viewing in Beijing

Ginkgo Viewing in Beijing

Whenever the capital is soaked in autumn, ginkgo trees carve the ancient capital with gilded colors. The ginkgo trees in the Forbidden City have a unique charm against the red walls and yellow tiles. The golden leaves dot the ancient palaces, and the bricks and tiles are interwoven with the poetic years of the ginkgo trees. Walking between the palace walls, it seems as if you can hear the whispers of history and autumn. In the Summer Palace, ginkgo trees are distributed everywhere, beside the West Embankment and the ancient buildings. The golden branches and leaves sway in the wind, blending with the scenery of lakes and mountains, adding a bit of agility and romance to this garden. Walking among them is like entering a painting. In the Temple of Heaven Park, the ginkgo trees are tall and straight, and the golden color of the trees is more solemn against the backdrop of ancient buildings such as the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests. When the sun shines, the golden leaves sparkle and fall all over the ground. People walk through them, not only appreciating the beauty of the ginkgo trees, but also feeling the solemn atmosphere of the royal sacrificial sites, which is really pleasant.China · Beijing

In the Daxiong Hall of Huayan Temple, you can see the groundworks of Liao Dynasty and the buildings of Jin Dynasty, as well as the statues of Ming Dynasty and the murals of Qing Dynasty. The Hall of BojiaJiaocang in the temple is the only Liao Dynasty building here. The statues from Liao Dynasty in the Hall are extremely precious. There is a double-storey pavilion-style cabinet behind the Hall of Bojiajiaocang, the upper level is for Buddha statues and Buddhist altars, and the lower layer stores for books.China · Datong

Longqing Gorge Ice Lanterns is a great place for family outings. The ice sculptures are crystal clear and exquisite, and the lighting creates a strong atmosphere that children find very exciting. The trails are gentle and easy to walk on, so it's not too tiring overall. Remember to wear a warm coat, as it can be chilly underneath. It gets quite crowded on holidays, so plan your parking in advance. Taking photos as a family creates a festive atmosphere.

When summer arrives and Beijing becomes sweltering, Guanting Reservoir Wetland Park becomes a hidden gem nestled between the borders of Beijing and Hebei. Most of the area falls within Hebei province, and the breeze from the lake, laden with moisture, brings a chill that penetrates deep into the bones, making it a prime summer escape for city dwellers. The Huailai Bridge, situated on the eastern side of the lake, reflects the blue sky and clear water in summer, creating a refreshing atmosphere. Standing by the bridge and feeling the breeze can alleviate much of the heat. The most breathtaking sight is the lakeside flower fields. Summer is the peak season for the geraniums, their vibrant petals unfurling in the sunlight, swaying in the breeze, creating vibrant summer photos. Summer here is both lively and relaxing: some fish under the shade of the trees, waiting for their catch; the occasional boat slowly glides across the lake, its splashes of water cooling the air. It’s no wonder that many Beijingers buy houses here. Without having to travel too far, they can keep the coolness of the whole summer close to them. Whether it’s a weekend stay or a daily summer escape, it’s perfect.

I visited once many years ago, and this time it was winter. Although the wind was strong and it was very cold, the sky was very blue, the sunset was beautiful, and the reeds and distant mountains, with snow on the peaks of the distant mountains, were a very different scene from Beijing.

It's a dilapidated film and television attraction with nothing on it. Finding the angle to shoot requires a lot of skills. If you want to play with sand, you can go and have a look. If you want to take pictures, you need good weather and strong skills. But generally speaking, getting close is king, otherwise you have to walk 400 kilometers out to feel the real desert.

Shichahai (Qianhai + Houhai + Xihai), located at No. 49 Di'anmen West Street, Xicheng District, Beijing, is divided into three water areas: Qianhai, Houhai, and Xihai. The lakeside scenic area is free all day and requires no reservation. Three main areas: 1) Qianhai (Lively main scenic area, the top choice for watching the sunset) Yandai Xiejie: A 232-meter-long century-old street with creative shops and snacks, leading directly to Yinding Bridge. Yinding Bridge: One of the "Eight Scenic Spots of Yanjing," Yinding Guanshan (Viewing the Mountains from Yinding Bridge), a good spot for sunset photography at Orange Sea in the evening, offering distant views of the Western Hills. Lotus Market: A pond full of lotus flowers in summer, offering opportunities for rowing boats and sightseeing boats. 2) Houhai (Bars + Hutongs, the heart of nightlife) Houhai Bar Street: A cluster of folk music bars, creating a vibrant atmosphere at night; avoid the expensive bars along the street and explore the deeper hutongs for better deals. Houhai North Bank: A quiet lakeside walking path, less crowded, suitable for strolling and taking photos, passing by Prince Chun's Mansion (the birthplace of Puyi). 3) Xihai (a local favorite, the least crowded) Xihai Wetland Park (free): reeds, wild ducks, lakeside boardwalk, a hidden gem in the bustling city, almost no tour groups, perfect for a quiet city walk.
